As in there's little to no story?....Because yeah that sucks. :/
Also the difficulty seems way too easy this time around, only challenge right now being Glavenus and the Deviants...

So I made my first deviant set, dreadqueen gunner gear. I'm a bit disappointed with the way it upgrades... and has no slots... skills are good though. It's just going to be a real pain upgrading the thing to usable levels. Normally the process stops at making the armor, having fought the thing around 5 times to complete a set, but now you have to fight five more times to upgrade it, and I'm guessing you have to do the third tier double quest, ten more deviants, to upgrade further. Is any of this even worth fighting the same monster so many times?

Yeah I guess it's that, the story is literally just "you are hunter. Go hunt. Hunt here. Hunt there".

You just described the plot for every Monster Hunter game prior to Freedom Unite, where the offline plot changes ever so slightly to "get revenge on X monster (Tigrex, Lagiacrus)". 4 (Ultimate) is the only game with a fleshed-out story, and even that game uses the original formula for online quests.

As for the game being easier, well the difficulty curve is definitely shallower with a larger spread of monsters spread across just two ranks, and of course the overall damage dealt by monsters is lower compared to older games. But otherwise the ease comes mostly from your skill, so victory still feels great. Plus, there's always the feeling of striving for self-improvement, and not just in better gear. Maybe you'll try to KO that monster with your hammer twice instead of just once next time. Break that part or cut that tail which slipped from your grasp. Level up your Palicoes. Try to land that Brimstone Charge with your Great Sword that you keep missing with. This is what REALLY drives a hunter. It doesn't have to come from an a**kicking.

Well, the difference here I guess is that the same basic non-story from the very first game is now multiplied by four and given to you all at the same time.

MH4 introduced multiple towns and they served a story purpose. Here you instantly get four different town layouts that are little more than just visual styles to choose from.

Even the guild and "farm" became big, open, unfocused spaces.

I'm sure I'll have fun with the game, I'm just saying it feels like a big step back from the last one in terms of keeping the player motivated. I think.

Pink and Gold just irritate me, and from I heard, Dreadqueen uses some of their moves...so, yeah...I'm not touching her. Not to mention I can't even kill Redhelm Arzuros yet. lol

@EOTW I got Grimclaw's set to lv6 (for the variant skill)
My guildcard says I fought 27 of them

So I guess you must get more tickets for each quest? I've only been getting one at a time.

You name me one player who plays Monster Hunter for the story.

That aside, past games have had lore to speak of if you dug a bit... much like Metroid Prime, there was story to be found if you were willing to look, but otherwise was kept to the background so you can keep with the questy-questy. For example, remember the tale of the Monoblos mentioned in 4 Ultimate's Dundorma plot? The one who hunted it (and started hunting as a whole) is none other than the Kokoto chief. He also hunted a Lao Shan Lung in a five-man party with his wife, and succeeded, but at the cost of her life. Those stories explain why Monoblos is always fought solo, and four hunters is the norm (five is an unlucky number in that universe).

Or how about Pokke? You may know already since you seem to have played in it, but how about that giant sword? Made of elder dragon material, has the ability to regenerate, and the stuff you craft from it is eerily similar to Fatalis gear. It sparked many myths about that elder dragon, such as how it could supposedly regenerate from death, if the sword could too.

I have seen Dreadqueen do Pink's corkscrew flip, but I find that she (even when considering the frame rate issue) is rather slow compared to normal, perhaps to compensate for the poison clouds she makes. She can even do a Diablos-style tail whip.

Story may not be be the most important part of the franchise, but it's a useful tool to get the player motivated to play.

Just like having friends to play multiplayer with will make things that much more enjoyable.

After what MH4/4U did, people would expect them to improve upon that, not remove them completely. So not only did they remove the story, but the cutscenes as well...and monster intros are basically nonexistent at this point...
EDIT: ....Did Gore Magala get a new roar? It only happened once, but it almost sounded like Shagala's...
