I need to start playing 4 Ultimate soon then. Loved Tri and 3 Ultimate on Wii/Wii U but found switching to 3DS a bit jarring. I think I'll get over it as from what I've heard this is possibly the best Monster Hunter by some distance.

Honestly I was hoping the next game would have Nerscylla in it and give her minions. Imagine having small spiders swarming you like in some horror movie/game. xD

Just put all of the UI on the bottom screen and rejoice—that's at least one leg the small screen has up on consoles. The jaggies are a bit disappointing, though.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

D'aww, @Megumi, you necro'd my thread! <3

Anyway, this game is continual hype, everything looks and sounds so much better than 4U. Moreover, I think these 7ish flashy new monsters were exactly what 4th gen needed to feel distinct from the others. End of July is a great launch time, too (it's so far away, I'm going to diiieeeeee!).

I can't wait for this game. Thankfully I have plenty of distractions to tide me over til then.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

I can't wait for this game either, but I wished they considered a console version. I can't imagine playing that long on a portable compared to the time I spent on Tri.

Anyway, I hope they release that Yugi themed armor for your Palico!

The wait may be long, but it'll give me time to finish other games on my backlog since I usually tend to ignore every game I own if I'm really focused on one game lol.

I'm not lazy! ...I'm just very forgetful. :|

I think they're actually biding their time for a console release—you can tell the modeling quality never dipped despite three consecutive portable entries. Cross is a great way to tide fans over until the fifth numbered title, and if you notice they've taken out the big set piece fights like Dalamadur, Dah'ren Mohran, and Ceadeus. I think Monster Hunter V is going to come out strong with a bunch of new monsters, weapons, areas, and generally really cool looking stuff whenever it launches on NX (And if the NX flops, whenever it gets ported to PS4.)

I think it's because it's much easier to get away with ridiculous or fun armor designs if the one wearing them is a cute little cat.

So that means most of the crossover content goes to the felynes... And I imagine it will be even more in this one now that they're playable.

Wait.... This thread seems to have an identity crisis judging from the first post...

The conversation about Monster Hunter stories kinda died quick since it wasn't too long before Cross(Generations) was announced for Japan lol. Kinda too late at this point to make a Generations thread, but it's never too late to make another Stories thread if we get a western release.

Exactly. I just figured there would only be about one thread's worth of future MH hype—we're a niche enough fanbase as it is—so I just renamed it when Cross got announced. Considering that this thread had been dead for ages I would air on the side of 'still not wrong doe.'

Edit: The 'OP' I made for Generations when it got announced is post #24 on the second page of the thread, in case anyone's wondering.

And here's Generations' most hype trailer for all you new folk:

This game is really gonna tempt me not to use new weapons like the great sword, bow, and hunting horn with how cool my longtime main weapon got:

This game looks so awesome. I can't wait til it comes out.

Apparently they were also considering adding two new weapon types into Generations originally. Their concept names were Hunting Hound and Wyvern Boomerang.

Quoting from Siliconera article:
"The Hunting Hound was a gunner class whose primary weapon was, well, a dog. The dog could have armor made for it that would give it unique attacks and behavior. It was also designed to be able to find Monsters based on scent, or climbing to high places.

The player would issue commands in the form of button combos to coordinate different attacks – for example, the book shows you being able to target body parts, like the tail, or focus on breaking horns, and so on. Issuing a “follow the tail!” order would even have the pooch follow the Wyvern into the air! The player could ride it to move about the map faster, and it could be fed to recover health or stamina.

The Wyvern Boomerang was even more developed weapon concept, with combos already designed. The heavy weapon had an overhead attack not unlike the Great Sword, but the diversity is in its throwing attacks and how the player interacts with it in midair. X would throw it straight forward, X+A would throw it upward into the air, and A would be a round-house throw.

Now, for the interesting part – before catching the boomerang after a throw, it looks like there was a mechanic built into it where the player could literally punch it back out into the air towards a Monster. It could even break into two for more advanced combos. This is a nice reflection of The Great Macao, whose motif was boxing – both with its hands and its feet."

Is it normal for the monsters to have the health of god in this franchise?

Some of the monsters are pretty godly, but yeah, the monsters tend to be very resilient.

It can feel that way if you're a new player, but it won't remain so if you become experienced. If you're having trouble I would suggest asking for advice in the 4U thread or just practicing with a monster and a weapon—figuring all of the attack animations.

It seems like that with all the monsters at first (especially when you're new), but once you know what to do, they're not that bad....even Dalamadur in 4U. (the ONLY exception in that game...is Gogmazios. >_>

No clue if there's any monsters like him in this game.

Dang I almost bought 4U on the 3DS some time ago but once I learned that this one's coming over I will most likely wait for the new game to drop. It's my first MH since Tri and with underwater sections gone I am pretty sure I'll enjoy it even more.
