I just got this email recently, the pre-order isn't a real big deal to me. Though what I found interesting is that it shows a release date for MH4U, do you guys think that it's the actual date or just a placeholder?
Just a placeholder.

Normally I would agree but it is a Tuesday and 3rd parties usually release on Tuesdays so it may be legit but I'm also leaning towards place holder.

Oh and to me that's not early 2015. I kinda hope it's wrong and it's no later then February. I think we can almost rule out January as we would've heard something by now.

I have never plaid MH before, but it looks neat. It seems there's a demo on the eShop, so I'll try it in a few days when I get (to play) my 3DS. The Collectors edition of MH4 looks cool, If I like the demo of MH3 I just might pre-order it.

The demo is a terrible introduction. That's the general consensus of most MH players, myself included. The demo just throws you in, with no tutorial or proper guide to getting started. The demo is meant for people who already play MH.
A game like MH really can't have an effective vertical slice type of demo. One of the main mechanics, crafting, is such a large part of the game, and it really can't be put into a demo without turning most players off because of the need for gathering. The actual demo has gathering, but you can't craft any weapons. The main focus is to hunt your monster, and the game has no proper tutorial for how to use each weapon effectively.
Sadly, the best way to get into MH is to buy the game yourself, which is a gamble because you don't know if it's for you or not. If you are going to buy a copy, I recommend the latest, 3 Ultimate. It has a decent introduction, and will prepare you for 4U, which is coming soon. Honestly though, I as well as many other hunters would recommend seeking outside help for a game like this to get started, and there's no shame in that. Monster Hunter is just that kind of game that is too deep to discover on your own. I recommend ProJared's beginner series, or just his channel. He covers a lot of MH3U, and watching him help newer players really helps. What I also did was I found a partner to help me nail the mechanics in. You can also look at /r/MonsterHunter on reddit, which is a very friendly community that's always willing to help, and they even have a sidebar for newer players.

The only thing we know regarding release is that it is scheduled for Q1 of 2015. March 31 happens to be the last day of Q1 2015. What that means is that because the official release date hasn't been announced, we can expect to see the game on sale no later than March 31. It is a placeholder date, and until we get an official release date, most stores are going to use this date to hold its place.

No clue why they couldn't just start the demo off with having you face off against Dah'ren, since that's how the beginning of the game starts. >.>
But nope, just a couple of random quests with just about nothing on how to play should do just fine.

That would be fine for a tutorial. I mean, he's the tutorial monster in the game, so why not at least make him an option in the demo?

I will back this up along with thousands of other players. That demo sucks for new comers.

3U was my gateway into MH, and I started through the demo. Huge mistake, I basically knew nothing about how the game worked and I got frustrated at how the game handled (the game does not handle how I initially expected it to). The demo alone made me think the whole game was horrible, and I wouldn't come back to the series for months until after watching and reading the reviews. I liked what the reviews said, but I still wasn't sure about the game, and I decided to gamble with it. Bought the game, played it, watched tutorials, read introduction threads, got help from other hunters, and I finally decided that I really liked this game. I've invested hundreds of hours into the game now (something like 400+), and I'm not even remotely done because there is so much to do.
I'll be honest, most new players to the series are probably going to be very terrible at this game. The combat is more than just swinging your weapon, and it's really the kind of combat where you need to master your weapon. It's a game that "clicks," something that you're supposed to get the hang of, not something that's really simple to pick up and play. It's because the mechanics are so advanced that this game is so fun and addicting after you get a grip of how to play.

Yes, but not a public demo, it isn't in the eshop. You'll see Capcom Unity playing and streaming it all the time. Personally I think it's about time we get the demo if it already works fine. Everyone wants to try out those new weapons!

Thanks, I'll take the demo with a 'big grain of salt'. I don't have a lot of money and I'm not hard up for a new game right now, so maybe I'll skip the collectors ed and pre-order the standard version of MH4U, and keep an eye out for a good deal on MH3U in the meantime.
as for ProJared, it's funny you mentioned him I subed him a couple of days ago, lol.
Can't wait to see you in 4U! Hopefully you'll be able to find 3U at a bargain somewhere, maybe used. The MH community is very friendly, and people like myself are more than happy to help newer players get into the series. Sometimes I go online and I help newer players getting a grip with the basic mechanics.

This is what users on /r/MonsterHunter said about the tutorial in MH4G (Japanese version). Seems positive, so it looks like MH4U (in english) will work better for you. Happy Hunting!

Not entirely sure if I'll go online or not, rarely went on in 3U, then again I heard level 100 Guild quests were nightmarish to solo in MH4, and it just gets worse in this game, so who knows.
