I definitely can understand getting lost. Especially if you play in short bursts, in which case it is very easy to forget where you have already been.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

6 Metroids left to go, 5 energy tanks in hand, 190 missiles. Only used maps twice...once because Adam's earlier comment alerted me to the fact that I missed the wave beam (which, immediately after backtracking to get it I replaced with the Spazer, and then just as quickly the Plasma, so...oops), and later on when I couldn't figure out where the heck to go and the map revealed that I needed to space jump into a cavern you couldn't reach by spider ball.

It's really great, and add me to the camp of folks who are finding this to be one of their favorite Metroids.

Its definitely a tie with the original Metroid, for me (which I grew up playing with for years.) This is such a wonderful game! (I've got 25 Metroids to go.)

Beat it. Adored it. There was a late game surprise that I never saw coming and that was great. Awesome game.

Just beat it as well... a very, very good game. Doubt I would've had the patience to get through it with the virtual handheld's saving ability, though.

won't start playing again until next year. (about 5 metroids killed in) but this game is aliens brought to life. Wouldn't mind a 3D version of this formula.

There's a trick to make the final boss easier for those who didn't already know.
Go into morph ball mode and roll right into her mouth then bomb her stomach from the inside.
it's alot quicker than using missles.

There are four different endings, depending on how fast you beat the game. I'm guessing you beat it under 3-4 hours, and you got the money shot scene

Haha, no, you give me too much credit! I was just referring to something that happened to the Metroid counter. Ahem. Won't spoil it for anyone...

But yeah, I think I was just over 7 hrs and got the worst ending. Will do better next time I promise!

Any hints for that? I tried to get it to eat me but it would just damage me and knock me back, even when the mouth was open. I couldn't get in there for the life of me.

As a bonus, though, I figured out a no-fail way to kill her with missiles without taking damage, so no harm done...but I sure wanted to bomb that belly.

@ Chicken_Brutus
You have to shoot the queen a few times with the missles first.
Then she pauses for a couple seconds and this is your chance to roll right up into her mouth and down the hatch.
You'll still take damage but if you're quick about it Dropping bombs in her stomach takes her out much faster.
Here's a video showing how it's done.

No matter how I did it, I'd always take a ton of damage. The boss is way too hard compared to the rest of the game, in my opinion. It's my only problem with the game, and an insignificant one in this version, what with save states.

Also, there are two endings for the record. One is significantly different in that Samus wears less clothes. I believe this is a split timeline and certain Metroid sequels follow this timeline (Metroid: Samus Goes to the Beach, for example). You need to beat the game in three hours, I think, for this amazing new ending.

No, there are 3 endings. (my bad) Look below spoiler alert!!!!!

And so, that's the end of the game. Alongside the credits, Samus in her Varia
Suit is seen running in the player's direction. After the credits, your time
for beating the game is displayed, and depending on how fast you beat the game,
Samus will do different things.

Ending #1
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
How to get: Finish in over 5 hours.

What Samus does: Continues running.

Ending #2
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
How to get: Finish in between 3 and 5 hours.

What Samus does: Jumps off screen, then drops down, landing. She then stands
there.

Ending #3
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
How to get: Finish in under 3 hours.

What Samus does: Jumps off screen, then drops down. When she lands, her suit is
shed, revealing a fit woman in a bikini. She then unties her hair.

@Chicken_Brutus The counter thing is an ordinary (but slightly upsetting) part of the game from my understanding (and after reading a walkthrough or two.)

Stand against the wall to the right and spin jump each time the fireball things come at you (hold right to do this, not left). You'll connect with them and destroy them without taking damage. Fire one missile at the Queen's head when you land. Then spin jump the same way to avoid her two snaps, and fire another missile when you land again. Repeat for a no-damage victory!

No, there are at least four, as I got one not listed in your post: Samus stands there and does nothing. Exciting.

Also, I'm aware that what happens to the counter is an "ordinary" part of the game (whatever that means...I didn't think it was a glitch if that's what you're suggesting!). I just didn't expect it.

Gamefaqs said two endings. I got the one Chicken described. It sounds like you are describing Super Metroid.

One walkthrough says 3, one says 4.

I'm probably going to trust the experience I actually had personally while playing the game myself over something some anonymous stranger said on the internet, but then again I'm old fashioned.

Good point. But one of those authors have written 38 FAQ's and is pretty well known, so I would probably guess that the game has 4 endings.

I still have yet to earn the best ending. I've played it several times and always missed it by a few minutes.
Must be all that getting lost and backtracking no thanks to the lack of a map.
I ended up watching it on youtube but I'd still like to earn it for myself.
I'll have to check out some maps online so I don't get lost this time.

Dang it I'm stuck with 18 left. It feels like I've searched everywhere but I can't seem to find any metroids to kill to make the earthquake happen again. Tips?
