Topic: 3DS XL -- Any tips to save battery???

So far I do seem to be getting a decent battery life out of my new 3DS XL. I estimate about 6 hours before I have to hit the charger. Keep in mind my system is set with power saver on, brightness at 4, and I don't really use 3D much. Does lowering the brightness increase battery life? I notice the system looks good even at lower brightness levels. How about the power saver, how exactly does that save battery? Is there anything else you can do to squeeze even more juice out of the battery? maybe other setting you can change?

Lowering brightness will save some battery.

The Power Saving mode dims the screen a little making it draw less power.

From what I've heard the 3D is the feature that sucks the most energy out of the system.

Turning of Wireless Communications on the side of the system will also help you save battery.

Whatever you're doing on your 3DS also has an impact on the battery life. For example, playing 3DS and 3DSWare games take up more battery life than DS and virtual console games.

Power save off and brightness on 2 when playing games. Power save on brightness 1 when using apps and internet gets me a good solid 6 hours. Most of the time I'm playing at home so I have a 10 metre power extension lead and 3DS plugged in all the time also hooked up to my Logitech 5.1 surround system while I hit the couch. If you leave the 3DS for a while make sure to close it. Also don't keep the volume all the way on top.

So how do you turn of the wireless communications? Will I lose the ability to connect to street or spot pass with wireless communications disabled? I do know where the wireless switch is but it always appears to be on ( green light in upper right corner)??? Thanks for the tips on software impacting battery life too. So far all of my games are 3DS, although I am saving power playing them in 2D I am going to experiment with brightness settings too. Finally when 3DS is closed without powering off, does it go into a low power consumption sleep mode?

Don't have your internet on.

Lower the Screen Brightness.

Put Power Save on(even if it's a pain in the backside)

Don't play too many powerful games on the 3DS.

@Nintendnut turning off wireless communications will stop your 3DS from connecting to both spotpass and streetpass.
if it`s switched on it uses barely any power as it is when it`s not in use, but if you want to squeeze the battery for every drop, turn it off when you don`t need to use either spotpass or streetpass.

Battery saving tips:
Turn off 3D, disable WiFi, disable speaker volume, dim the screen, remove SD card. Instead of sleep, turn off when not in use. When available, purchase an extended battery.

Yes you would lose the ability to connect to both passes, but if you're at home or in an area where you are unlikely to get streetpasses (church? ) then you could always turn off wireless connectivity temporarilly. That is if you want to squeeze every last drop of battery from your 3DS XL of course.
