There’s an irony to this statement when before release the devs were saying on streams with professional Smash players stuff like “we’re smash fans, we know how frustrating not being listened to about your game is”
They all but encouraged this mindset for months. Obviously it probably wasn’t this guy specifically but, they were very much indirectly egging it on prerelease
Zoning is a strategy and a valid one, I mean Guile is probably one of the most well known fighting game characters of all time to the point where Ultimate references the playstyle he has.
However there’s no excuse for extended periods of times of characters just sitting doing nothing. Most fighting games have shorter times, smaller stages, and health bars to prevent this sort of thing (a street fighter round is at most 90 seconds), but with Smash Bros there should be rules against this kind of thing, especially since this has happened before. The. EVO 2018 Smash 4 grand finals had two players just stall till the TOs had to step in, and I know Brawl had a lot of problems with stuff like this.
Putting up a wall for the other player to have to get through IS a viable strategy, but that’s not what happened here to me. No match should have minutes of characters just sitting and doing nothing, rules should be on place against that, as it’s an issue the set up of Smash Bros allows.
@ALinkttPresent there were 8 spots per franchise in the demo at New York Comic Con so it's possible (although that might have just been because it's a demo). Also kinda spoilers but RWBY only has 7 main characters now anyway so...
Picked this up for my switch a couple weeks ago, I've been playing the Cars video games since the first one back in 2006, they're usually at least ok and this one was more or less just that. I enjoyed my time with it but getting the skill points or whatever to unlock Jackson Storm was a drag, it's a fun game, but it's obvious it had less than a year of development. So yeah I pretty much agree with the review
