@Mahe >You do realize that Wii Sports Resort sold over 30 million copies and bolstered Wii sales, while PS Move and Kinect gave both PS3 and X360 a very big uptick? And yet they fizzled fast after coming out, still not a mid-gen upgrade.
>There is no "pessimism" here, there is sheer unbridled hate towards bad systems. Seems a bit much, but I'll respect your opinion. Only Ninty and MSoft feel like they're dipping, while PS4 is just trucking along. 3DS has long gotten better. >PS4 is good, but not great. PS4 Pro is not what I want. Then hold off/don't get them? Don't have to get either, dawg. I only have a 3DS and PS3 (brother got a Wii U tho) and am waiting to jump at the PS4. People have been doomsaying companies since the SNES, so it'd take something bad to make me actually agree. Right now, just worried for Ninty's consoles, since their portables are ace.
@Mahe >The releases. The d-pad. The design. Yeah, those were a problem, happened with DS, too. Was rough. > The firmware updates. The price drop. ??? How are these bad? Still, didn't think the 3DS was as bad as you put it. Bad launch year, but still a pretty solid system.
>You know what was good for fatigue and bounce back in the last gen? Wii Motion Plus, PS Move, and Kinect. Not at all, those barely did much to push out new games for it. Barely considered an upgrade. This is an actual console upgrade.
>Now, this mid-gen upgrade? Splitting the userbase and screwing over the early adopters? More people being allowed to buy a system is bad? More options for those that want higher tech that is not necessary is bad? You don't have to upgrade at all. And if you got it early, why care about price drops? Isn't that something everyone knows, that consoles eventually get cheaper? It's on you for not waiting, and you'll still have had more time on it than others.
Heck, userbase only gets bigger by price drops, why would people get jealous? That's petty.
>It could very well blow up in Sony and MS's faces. Very much doubt it. They get to put extra pressure on Nintendo this way. Waay too much pessimism there, chill.
@Mahe 'the original 3DS' Hmm? Other than the first year being dead as disco for releases, I don't get how it was worse than the DS. Wii U was handled poorly, though. Tad bit harsh. I feel that the consumer base is to blame only for the perpetuation of the DLC model (considering that so many still buy unfinished games off hype). I also don't think of the PS4 pro as a dud, just a slight upgrade for the tech-heads who want it.
"This generation could have gone differently if the platform holders hadn't been completely clueless, or even downright malicious (Microsoft)." Nah I expected this. Console sales last gen were pretty high, so fatigue (in addition to the weird decisions) meant sales getting slow. This mid-gen upgrade thing everyone is doing seems good for the bounce back.
@Grandpa_Pixel " It does not flood the market with titles but rather focuses on quality." Not so sure about that part, but Persona and ultimately Megaten in general, really are a treat.
@Ninten-san @kamikazilucas I think the bigger kid said something like "You're never gonna be a good trainer." or something after he beat him. Pretty messed up.
@Yorumi The only "bad fans" are those who don't respect the opinions of others, honestly. If you look at some metroid fansites, there are people who loathe the game and love it interacting just fine. Differences are great, since it allows different ideas to flow and come out. It's been great to see the debates over what people like or didn't like about games in general, especially since it makes it even better for someone who is in the middle about getting it or not. It's only when people think that certain opinions are "wrong" that things start to flare up.
@khaosklub Bringing in standards into things is very iffy, since it mostly is just used as "My opinion is better than yours!" and stuff like that. It's incredibly subjective over what is good or not, and fans should NOT just be some group of people who all think the same thing about something, whether it be taking in anything new without criticism or pushing away everything new. Fans are just people who like something, and should have opinions independently of whatever group they're in. If they agree, then cool. If not, then also cool. I respect your opinion of course, of not being a fan of Federation Force, but I don't agree with what you said about it disappearing. I also do not like how fanbases have been acting in general since 2010. You don't have to buy the newer games or sidegames, they don't threaten the rest of the series. All they do is have the chance to bring people into the series that normally haven't been interested or heard of it. Just see the effect that Prime had. Having people like or dislike different things only makes the fanbase more interesting. It's why Pokemon is so refreshing, with people liking different generations more.
@Lizuka To play devil's advocate, if a free demo is out, that at least deserves to be given a shot. And also, "Business needs to adapt to the consumer, not the other way around" should not necessarily mean that only the ideas of the fans should be acted on. Listening to fans is great, but at some point you'll just be making more of the same over and over. Taking risks and making something new every once in a while is nice. That's not even taking into account at ALL about how that limits the author's creative freedom. Nobody should be forced to buy a game just because it's in a franchise they like, but I don't think not taking risks would be the right answer. FF was just a risk that didn't pay off, that's all.
@electrolite77 No problem, man. There should be a demo on the eshop still, actually. From what I hear, F-Zero was less of a sales issue but more of just "What can we actually do with this?" for some reason. They really should just look to Shin'en or someone.
@electrolite77 The snowflake part is a bit much, don't you think? That's usually an indicator of bait, or is used to attack those who don't believe in your opinion.
I have friends who loathe FF, and that's fine. I have friends who really like FF, and that's fine. Even got some who are down the middle, and find it meh. People need to respect others views more often, instead of hopping on the love/hate bandwagons for games. (It's to the point that saying a good thing about FF or a bad thing about Breath of the Wild can land you in a huge flame war in places) Federation Force didn't appeal to that many people, and ended up taking a controversial turn, in my opinion. Not a good one, or bad one, just controversial, since it's argued and argued. Those thinking Metroid is dead now, that seems a tad much.
@Yorumi Did you even read what I said? Or did you mean to quote someone else?? Because that sounds almost like bait.
People are allowed to believe whatever they want about E3, and I know I also felt disappointed, but that was mostly from lack of games shown in general that year. Wooly World ended up good, and Mario Maker as well. I STILL stand by the belief that it was too soon for any other Animal Crossing mainline games since New Leaf took YEARS and just barely came out. Didn't like Amiibo Festival, but really liked Happy Home Designer. Rest of the stuff didn't appeal to me, really.
Forgetting Metroid for a sec, if a new game just recently came out, and there had NEVER been a spinoff for the series, why would it be bad to make one, especially since the developers themselves wanted to? AC on Wii U would be overkill, but nah let's just tire people out of the series and repeat the sales of City Folk again, right? No.
What they learned is that they gotta release a console with games already out during release, instead of just announced for the future. That and the timing of the tablet were part of the big problem they had with it. And the Paper Mario thing is STILL just the slippery slope stuff again, and happened because Miyamoto does not know what Paper Mario gave that people liked. Metroid barely gets any Miyamoto action, so come on bruh. I'm not even trying to say you shouldn't judge Nintendo, just that being extreme about it is crazy. Thinking ANY company would willingly try to ruin a franchise is tinfoil hat stuff. They just messed up, and because they keep messing up, many are holding off from buying much from them now thankfully, which gives them a chance to rethink things.
Would be nice if you calmed the emotions down so you could clearly state something without that negative tone, because it really does not make me want to reply, especially if I'm trying to speak respectfully. Please consider this, pal.
@Yorumi "But now, nothing seems to make sense at all. Quality dropped sharply with the wiiU, we get weird things like amiibo scam instead of a real animal crossing." A "real" Animal Crossing game came out on 3DS already, why rush out a console port like they did with City Folk? That sounds awful and would definitely get fans riled, if it's just New Leaf but minus portability. "Metroid disappears, and comes back with a spinoff(we hope, for all we know this is the future of metroid)." These are assumptions, why do this slippery slope stuff? "E3 2015(right? they're all running together) seemed almost designed to piss off fans. " A company would never actually do that though, it's just that people always get hyped for E3 and get unhyped when they turn out uneventful, even though Nintendo made Directs for the reason of spreading the love throughout the year instead of just in one point. "They were so concerned we would think they were getting out of consoles that they've been drip feeding us rumors and speculation for a year and a half now but have no concern for metroid fans. If rumors are true they abandoned the wiiU for the wiiU but portable? So hey everyone buy a new console that's the same as the one you have and buy all your games over again." Console sales are low, they can't really tell why, or feel it's too late. They don't HAVE to make a Wii U Metroid game, and you don't HAVE to buy a new system if one appears on NX.
You gotta chill and realize that it's a spin off. Don't like it? I respect that, and have my own opinion. Thinking it'll die off or that it spells the end of anything? Nah man, that's too much to try to guess. I'm no Nintendrone or nothin', I just try to be reasonable and think about the why. Nintendo's having a rough time, and if they can't handle it, welp. Doom-singing doesn't help things, though. Vote with your wallet, sure, but try to understand please, why others might want it, or why it was made at all.
@Kirk "According to court documents, between July 2, 2016, and July 3, 2016, Cebula transmitted messages over the internet to Blizzard Entertainment, in which he stated that he 'may or may not pay [Blizzard] a visit with an AK47 amongst some other 'fun' tools,' and 'might be inclined to 'cause a disturbance' at [Blizzard's] headquarters in California with an AK47 and a few other 'opportunistic tools,'" the report said.
Certainly sounds like something someone would say as a threat. It's a big matter of opinion on how bad the threat was, and honestly I feel it's REALLY bad to do something like this at a time like now. Dude, I'm not a fan of the police right now, as you can see from the stuff that's happening on the news and social media right now. If there's one good thing about social media, it's that everyone can post on it, and once something's on the internet, it's there forever. Look at the recent shootings for an example. America itself is on a bit of a decline, or rather was for a while but is more visible now.
No matter what corporations out there try to do stuff, there's always some news places that do it right. Things are never completely hidden, and people do fight back. You can't prove a slippery slope, there are good and bad examples for the way things have gone. And with how inept the NSA is, pleeease. I get what you're saying, but the way you say it, the more tin-hatish it seems. There is a problem but punishing someone for being an awful person and making a threat like this, which is definitely a crime and has been for a long while, is not at all affecting freedom of speech. Freedom of speech does not/should not allow you to endanger people's lives or give a scare like that. Go look up Snowden, or actually examples and please stop acting like everyone is sheep, it's cringey. Can we leave it at that?
@Kirk What more can I say than I disagree? Even if it is some "idiot" trying to act tough, if it's let go and continues, it'll interfere and make ACTUAL threats harder to see. Same reasoning for why it's bad to pull a fire alarm. And if you were to give a death threat, in that example, well, if they just saw the threat and called the cops, you'd definitely get a warning and a checkout. The threat he made was much more serious than that though. It's not a specific law, you just don't have to threaten someone with violence or worse. He can be flawed all he wants, and people make mistakes. This goes beyond that though. Just like how you can't just give a drunk driver a warning, you can't just do that in this situation. People are so afraid of the slippery slope that it has them believe that one step will lead everything into some orwellian oppressive state. Just ends up leaving things not fixed at all. Really reminds me of how people equate anti-bullying stuff in school to be anti-freedom of speech, which I disagree with immensely, and that's all I'll say on all this.
@Kirk You can see it in the swatting culture. So many kids who keep at it because there's no consequence. Like I said before, 5 years is a lot, but there definitely should be a punishment. I'm not someone who works in that, so I have no idea how long would be okay, but personally, a month with stuff like psych evaluations and maybe being put in some program for that week would seem good. The alleged 5 years thing is to catch headlines most likely, and he'll probably get a much, MUCH lower amount of time in jail, but that announcement will probably be quieter. First one will get on the news though for sure, and hopefully would deter people from doing the same.
Also, I feel you're being a bit harsh on people who would disagree with you. Totally programmed/ conditioned? Any sane person? It's still an actual crime. Our prison system is awful, and our law system isn't perfect by any means, but calm it down. The people who went to work there, and had to deal with not knowing if this was a joke or not,. they're not machines. Just reminds me of the "It's just a prank, bro!" people, there's something really wrong with trying to pull a joke like that.
@Kirk I get what you're saying, but that sort of threat is crazy to have to deal with. 5 years is a lot, but a warning would simply not be enough. This isn't someone being a butt, this was someone giving a crazy scary threat during a time where these things actually get done. You don't joke about something that big.
Freedom of speech does NOT extend to this, and shouldn't. If any teen could try to troll a company by sending serious death threats and getting scotch free, then all it'd do is send the company's members nervous and unsafe. Plus, separating the real threats from the unreal would be awful. The punishment is pretty high, but I still feel he should get punished in some way.
The game seems kinda meh from playing it, and I say this as a crazy huge fan of Pokemon, but it's nice to see Pokemon back in the light like this. I just hope this encourages more people to look at the other Pokemon besides just Gen 1, since GO is definitely reinforcing Gen 1 Pokemon popularity.
@Utena-mobile Remember, Treehouse is full of a lot of different people. Some people regretted it from the start, but they had a job to do. Some didn't think it mattered too much, etc etc. As an SMT fan, this game couldn't have been farther out my radar, even without the changes from what I played of the Japanese release. Still, when a friend gave me the game to try out, didn't have much else to play so I went through until maybe the final dungeon. I saw the localization changes, and it honestly doesn't feel, personally, that they did much damage to the story or anything. Yes I saw the vid detailing the changes, it still seems as good (or bad in my case) as it seemed in the original release. If you like the concept at play, the game will definitely still give you that.
That said, I was just fine with Bravely Second, and Fatal Frame's differences, especially the latter since the Nintendo costumes that replaced the old ones looked great.
Right now, I feel bad for Inti-Creates since their record is usually pretty great (Gunvolt 2 that's coming out also looks amazing) as well as backers, especially after stuff like Yooka and Bloodstained's recent gameplay footage being amazing right off the bat. Kickstarter for sure has a lot of bashers out there, and this definitely didn't help things. Hopefully it stands as the miss in a series of KS successes.
@jaxrogers2 What I mean is people who try to justify what they do by saying that because there's a security issue, it allows them to do what they want. Sure, hackers are only finding these issues, but I'm saying that those that use them to just roll back their versions for piracy or something aren't in the right. My issue isn't with the hackers that open it up for HBL but those that go beyond that.
Wasn't Cube Ninja and OoT3D the big two that actually did allow stuff? But yeah my big issue was just in that question of "if these games on eshop aren't there right now, is it okay to pirate them?" and I still feel like it ain't right. Seems much better to wait till the console is dead before having a whole piracy scene.
Treehouse actually makes me enjoy the E3 experience more, but it's still hard to like that it's still a short list. I like E3 for the surprises, and new games that catch my eye. Seeing that this is news for games that are new but we already know about is a slight downer.
I do not agree with those who pirate the games that got taken down. Not at all. Especially since the physical versions are still out there somewhere. If people want to do the hacks that get them customizable menus and all that, fine. But when it gets to the point that people are pirating, that's no good. And the whole excuse of "It's Nintendo's fault for their security being flawed" is just not good either. That's like saying a bank deserves to be robbed because their security wasn't good enough. Sure, Nintendo is a big corporation and one person doing something won't take much of an effect, but more and more people are just pirating. The other excuse that it's okay since the 3DS is dying is also bad since there are plenty of games coming out and no successor has come up yet to replace it.
@nerdydan Like I said, Nintendo's no longer as worried as before about losing their "innocent" look to parents and others. And wombatkidd gave some good examples, too. Plus, they must somehow know that they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they bought into a series known for controversial issues and then trying to censor them.
Nobody really knows at this point though, so who knows who's correct. I respect your view but disagree.
@nerdydan Not to be mean but, have you checked Atlus' history? MegaTen was born and raised on Nintendo consoles. And they've certainly been quite explicit. SMTIV, the newest Atlus game, stays by those roots and shows that they're still not afraid to push those limits. It and Bayonetta 2 proves that Nintendo is trying to also appeal to "mature gamers".
I do agree that it'd be better if another 3rd party bought them though, since while I do love my mainline on Nintendo consoles, I wouldn't want to hurt my Persona brothers out there with P5 or future games in the subseries appearing outside a Sony console.

Re: Two Men Sentenced Over 2015 Pokémon World Championships Gun Threats
Re: Two Men Sentenced Over 2015 Pokémon World Championships Gun Threats
Re: Two Men Sentenced Over 2015 Pokémon World Championships Gun Threats
Re: Talking Point: The Viral Reaction to Pokémon GO is a Surprise Gift for Nintendo
Re: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Co-Director Was Initially "Disappointed" With Western Localisation
Re: Round Up: First Mighty No. 9 Reviews Suggest The Wait Hasn't Been Worth It
Right now, I feel bad for Inti-Creates since their record is usually pretty great (Gunvolt 2 that's coming out also looks amazing) as well as backers, especially after stuff like Yooka and Bloodstained's recent gameplay footage being amazing right off the bat.
Kickstarter for sure has a lot of bashers out there, and this definitely didn't help things. Hopefully it stands as the miss in a series of KS successes.
Re: Talking Point: 3DS Homebrew Development Causes Another Game Takedown as Nintendo Maintains Its Tight Grip
Re: Editorial: With Lowered Expectations E3 Can Still Be Full of Nintendo Magic
Treehouse actually makes me enjoy the E3 experience more, but it's still hard to like that it's still a short list. I like E3 for the surprises, and new games that catch my eye. Seeing that this is news for games that are new but we already know about is a slight downer.
Re: Talking Point: 3DS Homebrew Development Causes Another Game Takedown as Nintendo Maintains Its Tight Grip
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Shaping Up To Acquire Troubled Atlus
@nerdydan
Like I said, Nintendo's no longer as worried as before about losing their "innocent" look to parents and others. And wombatkidd gave some good examples, too. Plus, they must somehow know that they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they bought into a series known for controversial issues and then trying to censor them.
Nobody really knows at this point though, so who knows who's correct. I respect your view but disagree.
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Shaping Up To Acquire Troubled Atlus
