Yo Noid! cloned this game a bit, with the Pizza Game instead of Paper, Rock, Scissors. Yeah, Yo Noid! would be a nice VC game. Any game where you use a yo-yo as a weapon is alright.
Gyrostarr looks like the Sonic 2 Bonus Level and Gradius had a child. Erm. Not sure I want to take a picture of it, let's intersperse text frames in the middle of the video so people don't get too close a look at the kid. Be sure to rrun, rrun awayy from Gyrostarr!
NoE's comments are right on: Perhaps we shouldn't be asking for more space for VC games. Perhaps we should simply toss our Nintendo systems out the door.
NoE seems to forget that its customers are Nintendo consumers, not Nintendo acolytes.
Q: What's the trick to not being disappointed with VC releases? A: Wait 60 days before looking for new VC releases. In that time, there's bound to be at least two games released.
☻ NEWS: Nintendo releases new luke-warm service to release newly developed luke-warm titles in lieu of releasing classic luke-warm titles in lieu of classic VC blockbuster titles fans still sit on the edge of their chairs biting their nails expecting. Stay tuned!
I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't released Battletoads or Battletoads + Double Dragon for the VC. Those were some hard games.
In 1993,I got so fed up with the difficulty level of those games, I sent myself through time to the future to 2009, grabbed a printout from gamefaqs, as well as got President Obama's autograph before heading back to get my head kicked in by Jimmy and Bimmy. True story.
I'm still waiting for Secret of Mana--and multiplayer support on the Wii network. But, I suppose this is a good entry after a considerable quality drought.
Damo wrote, "I don't recall calling anyone a crybaby...I merely asked the question!"
Damo wrote for a caption, "Are Virtual Console gamers all crybabies?"
Then, in the article, Damo wrote, "So is the Virtual Console getting a bum deal at the moment? We personally don’t think so; if anything fans of the service have been spoilt."
So, the answer to the question was no, fans are just spoiled rotten?
In doing the right, legal, moral thing--that is, not using roms or emulators--we are often paying again for a license of a game which we already own. It would be nice of Nintendo to permit us to download games for free (gratis) on the Wii that we already have a license for, but they're wanting to squeeze every last Mushroom Kingdom Gold Coin they can. Ah, capitalism.
Didn't really appreciate this game that much. Not that the gameplay isn't enjoyable in some parts, but this is the game that turned the series into: Super Mario Fetchquest. 2/5.
I'd take Damo's talking points over Bill O'Reilly's any day. Why? The focus on retro games! (I could do without the comparison to being a crybaby, though, Damo! )
There's an expectation that Nintendo will somehow improve retro titles, add additional functionality (such as Wiimote support for NES Duck Hunt), or release certain titles of our youths. We have expectations because we know the potential of the VC service. The problem with expectations is that it leads to disappointment. It is much better, to apply Damo's theme, to be happy with what we have received than to be disappointed. It's a decent idea to practice pushing down our expectations for awhile to see if Nintendo will surprise us during the next nine months.
Bonesaw, I agree with what you're sayig as the intent of the service was to sell retro games to retro gamers. I also see Damo's point: there is a limited supply of titles, and a limited supply of quality titles in the queue.
To be fair, I haven't bought a single other Wii game made for my Wii. I have Wii Sports, but that's it. My library of games on the Wii consists of that and VC titles. VC always seemed to gamers like a legal and moral alternative to roms and emulation on PC. For all the legal fuss Nintendo put up in the last decade concerning illegal rom sites (and they were entitled to their complaints as holders of intellectual property) I am amazed that the service isn't living up to its potential.
That being said, I have good faith that Nintendo will deliver on what it has in the works. I have yet to be disappointed in a Nintendo project (exception: Virtual Boy) and hope that Nintendo has something waiting in the wings, like an improved delivery of quality titles on the VC. Perhaps Nintendo will learn from the example of the old Sega Channel. I haven't given up hope yet.
Designer #1: "I'm going to put bombs in the game." Designer #2: "Bombs is too adult-sounding. Let's call them boomb-thing-a-bobs or kaboomies?"
Designer #1: "I'll think of something. Hey, should we let the player open a cave with them once in awhile?" Designer #2: "No way! When somebody blows up a cave, you have to go all the way, like Sinatra! Put a hidden cave on EVERY SINGLE SCREEN! That way they can waste their boomer-roomers by bombing every single wall in the game instead of using them for a weapon."
Designer #1: "Should we include a boomerang?" Designer #2: "What? And make people think we're copying Zelda?"
To recreate the experience of playing this game without spending points, wait for a rainy day and roll around in a big mud puddle. Then, get a friend in on the action by giving them a bear hug. That's about right.
I recall this game being more fun back in the day. It's still decent game to play, but it reminds me of bagging groceries: "Just one more bag---Ag! No, not another can of peas!"
This game reminds me of the awful Kid Icarus character on Captain N: The Game Master. "I can fly-icus! I just need wings-icus! I ate some cheerios for breakfast-icus!"
I liked this game--I really did. It took me forever to finally defeat it. And, yes, you have to go through the game twice to really beat the game! As for difficult games, I would still rather play this any day over the NES Battletoads.
F-Zero was such a great title to get so near launch of the SNES. Nintendo's best work was in the first year of its system. Sega's worst work was in the first year of its system. Who would have thought?
Ah, this game reminds of high-school. This was back when games were fun, you weren't sent on a series of pointless, mindless fetch-quests (I'm looking at you, Mario 64), and you could have a good game experience without having to deal with 3D nonsense.
Not a bad entry. The concept of using Dracula's rib as a shield did weird me out, back in the day. This game has some good rpg elements but it is sometimes too easy to lose lives (and money!).
What a great title! A great mix of RTS + Action. After dl this game, I was reminded how I could walk through this game in my sleep, however. Thus, it's a good first challenge, but replay value is somewhat limited.

Tell me, you didn't pay money for this!
Re: US VC Releases - 23rd June - Alex Kidd in Miracle World
In other news, Marcel wins the award for being the most cheerful bringer of bad news in VC history.
Re: Secret of Evermore - Brian Fehdrau Interview
Evermore involved finding ingredients for potions. That's all I remember.

Re: My Pokemon Ranch
I for one, not necessarily being a Pokémon fan, would think it fun to have a Pokémon for my Mii.
Re: Dig Dug
I used to play this on my Commodore 64. It's a fun game, but 600 points? Hmmm.
Re: Review: TV Show King
Good writing, Collin. Keep up the good work, friend.

Re: Square-Enix Changes Its Mind About The Virtual Console?
Square-Enix just isn't a team player.
Re: Playtest: The Shaft Virtual Console joystick
I'm waiting for an actual Wii-Zapper that plugs in through a GC port and looks something like an actual zapper, not an assault rifle.

Try putting the emphasis on the second syllable: Wii-WARE!

Re: US VC Releases - 28th April - Double Dragon
THREE TALKING POINTS:
Re: US VC Releases - 28th April - Double Dragon
I bought a used copy of Double Dragon last week for my imported Famicom clone.
As for the VC having mame titles, it'd be great to see:
1. The Simpsons Arcade Game.
2. Dungeons and Dragons :Tower of Doom
Re: US VC Releases - 21st April - River City Ransom
I'm still waiting for Secret of Mana--and multiplayer support on the Wii network. But, I suppose this is a good entry after a considerable quality drought.
Re: Top 10 C64 games wanted on the Virtual Console
I'd like to see BC's quest for tires on the VC.
Re: WiiWare: Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People
Strongbad! And Sam'N Max! Now THAT would be a good crossover game.
Re: Will Sega CD Support Ever Come To The Virtual Console?
I'm still hoping that they'll release the C64 classic "BC's Quest For Tires" on the VC.
Re: Will Sega CD Support Ever Come To The Virtual Console?
Speaking of Lunar, did you notice that Alex from Lunar is my icon?
Re: Will Sega CD Support Ever Come To The Virtual Console?
Call me crazy, but I'd love to play SEWER SHARK on the VC!
Re: APRIL FOOLS: Virtual Boy Confirmed for Virtual Console
You're not going to believe this, but I predicted this joke--either this, or Sega CD!
Re: Virtual Console Top 20 – March 12th to March 19th
Mario 64 was pretty mediocre, IMO. It was the transitional title into the next generation of Mario games, a.k.a. "Super Mario Fetchquest."
Re: Talking Point: The State of Play of the Virtual Console
Damo wrote, "Stinssd - I asked if VC gamers were crybabies, I never actually SAID they were..."
I know. I was just asking a question too.
Damo, you're a funny guy and a good writer. Thanks for the good talking point--it certainly has brought up some good conversation from the community.

Re: Ninja Gaiden
Fun game, but take one hint: When you die fighting a major boss in the later levels, you go back an entire level.
Re: Neutopia
I imagine designing this game went like this:
Designer #1: "I'm going to put bombs in the game."
Designer #2: "Bombs is too adult-sounding. Let's call them boomb-thing-a-bobs or kaboomies?"
Designer #1: "I'll think of something. Hey, should we let the player open a cave with them once in awhile?"

Re: Metroid
I like this game. Metroid 2 was better, and Super Metroid was the best, IMO. Metroid should have stayed 2D.
Re: Mega Man 2
Even better than the first.
Re: Mega Man
What a treasure of a game! This was back when companies cared about making games, not just churning out sequels. Er, wait. What am I saying?
Re: Mario Bros.

Re: Landstalker
Some of the dungeons were just annoying, but this game will always be close to my heart for its good story, fun action, and annoying bosses.

What a horrible night to have a curse!
Re: Castlevania
The first has to be my favorite simply because it was first, but each entry in Castelvania has something worthwhile. (At least the NES entries)
Re: Adventure Island
This game is like a poisoned banana. When I rented this game back in the day, I had more fun driving to return it to Blockbuster than playing it.
Re: Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
I have this game on the Sonic collection on PS-2. Puyo-puyo is entertaining for a few games, but the computer is particularly mean-spirited.
