Re: Feature: How One Man Saved Kyoto - And Video Games - From The Atomic Bomb

redranger4

As a graduate student studying both the atomic bombs and the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, I can tell you that Henry Stimson was no hero. Great that he spared one city the fate of the atomic bomb, but he was more or less responsible for helping to intern almost 120,000 Japanese Americans during the war.

I think the better headline would have been: Kyoto could have almost been rubble back in the 1940s, may have affected whether Nintendo would have actually existed. (My guess is...Nintendo probably would have been around, Hiroshima was built back up very quickly - in fact, some argue that the environmental impact from doing so had longer lasting effects than the bomb.)

Re: Soapbox: Bayonetta Deserves to be in Super Smash Bros.

Okay, not that I care about how sexual she is...but has no one noticed that her crouch/crawl position has her on all fours with her ass sticking straight up in the air? Anyone?

My problem with Bayonetta is multifaceted:

  • Nintendo probably would have included her anyway (or could have without the ballot) and there are plenty of other underrepresented franchises already (Hey Donkey Kong! Hey Metroid!). I would have preferred for the ballot to give a character Nintendo wasn't inclined to do anyway.
  • This wave of DLC seems to be far too cheap, play wise. Corrin and Bayonetta seem to be insanely overpowered or given extensive range compared to previous DLC. It kind of takes the fun out of it when everyone flocks to the new DLC characters that are cheap.
(I may just be disappointed with most of the DLC characters as it is. I like Roy more than Marth or Lucina, but it is disappointing to have a clone that was also in a previous game as DLC. Same could be said for Lucas. At least Ryu and Cloud are unique, with each having strengths and weaknesses).

However, the bright spot of her inclusion are the sounds she makes when she is launched or KO'd. Bliss.

Re: Video: Take a Look at the Mega Man Cartoon that Never Was

I am actually a huge fan of the cartoon series...I have them all on DVD somewhere. I have always loved the artwork of the Mega Man series (I have the artbook lying around somewhere...), but for some reason, hewing so closely to the original was kind of a turn off.

Either way, I think we can all agree that Roll's cartoon appearance was absolute garbage.

I was actually really surprised when I read all of the critical acclaim of Sonic 4: Episode 1. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is one of my all time favorite games, so I was naturally excited when they went back to the 2D roots. But...it was just, not great. Now, I really enjoyed Sonic 4: Episode 2. Pity that they couldn't put out a third one to really fix everything.

On the other hand, I felt like Colors and Generations were really a step in the right direction, and could have used more development time to really hone the controls. Otherwise, I found them completely enjoyable. Now, Lost World? Blech. I tried, but the controls were awful.

I wouldn't mind seeing some games like Sonic 3 & Knuckles to be remade with 3D graphics. Yes.
