Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

noDRMWizard1

On another note, many people say "well how will I get games on Switch that are more than 64gb? Therefore Game-Key cards are necessary!"

This is a thin argument brought on by a manufacturered issue by Nintendo.

If PS5 can put games on two Blu Ray discs, they can come up with a larger storage medium.

1TB SLC Cache 3D NAND TLC NVMe 1.3 PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 Internal SSD R/W Speed up to 1800/1500 MB/s

The above can be had for $60 bucks.

Now Micro SD Express cards have read speeds up to 985 MB/s and write speeds up to 650 MB/s

So I can get a stick of NVME that is almost x16
times the size of the switch two carts that runs almost twice as fast.

But Nintendo can't make a 100gb, 128gb, 256gb cartridge ??

If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you

The people that don't care about Game-Key carts fall into a few categories:

  • Play games and trade their consoles in every few years
  • Play a game once or for a short period and don't care if it's available in the future
  • Already own an extensive digital library and have buyers remorse but afraid to admit they aren't in control of their purchased goods
  • Want to play a game through and recoup their money as fast as possible.
  • Are probably predominantly NOT Millennials and Gen X'ers who grew up owning their movies, music and games.
  • Don't like video games enough to replay them or collect them.
  • Are most definitely also not the types to like owning or collecting
  • Are predominantly the "subscription generation" indoctrinated on whatever companies tell them they are supposed to do.
  • Have never experienced a digital purchase being removed from their library.

I fall outside this group in the Elder Millennial category.

I have bought a digital game or two for $2 or $5 bucks but would never drop real game prices money on a. Digital only game.

I grew up owning my games and 99% of my large collection (from PS5 all the way back to NES) is physical and can be enjoyed offline.

I'm not against digital but it has to be DRM free and installers / copies have to be in my possession (not on someone else's server).

Have seen what life was like before subscriptions and after and much prefer ownership after dipping my toes in the digital pool for 15 years now.

I was there before Steam when PC games either came on discs OR could be downloaded and you owned your copy.

I'm in IT so I deal with digital ALL day long EVERYDAY. Servers and license accounts and subscription software and RAID arrays etc...

I've seen the good side and bad. I'll never be ok with the bad parts of digital gaming.

Call me old or whatever, don't care.

If the PS5 doesn't offer physical games on the disc or Nintendo doesn't improve their practices, I'm fine with going off into the sunset.

Maybe I'll go PC and do GOG or itchio, or just go all Indie.

But just as I unsubscribed from Netflix last year because of their price increases, I happily speak with my wallet on Game-Key cards.

People who do disagree with this practice need to grow a set and speak with their wallets. There are literally thousands of games out there other than from Nintendo, Sony MS, and Steam.

If you do fall into one of the above categories and are OK with game-key cards then fine. So long as you know what you are buying an are fine with it, have at it !

But don't tell people that are NOT ok with game key cards that they have have to "just accept" them.

When you start "just accepting" business practices you disagree with...you just become a sucker.

Re: Publishers Are "Thanking" Nintendo For Game-Key Cards On Switch 2

noDRMWizard1

It makes me sad this partial truth being propagated.

That all PS XB games are just download keys on the disc, so why shouldn't Nintendo do it?

This is just largely not true. Visit doesitplay.org
and you'll find nearly 75% of physical games download/install the content from the disc/cart and are playable offline without a mandatory software update.

People have convinced themselves that such games don't exist anymore. Or they don't care maybe.

I do, and have hundreds of switch, PS4/PS5 and XB1 games that can be installed and played without an Internet connection.

I also plan to pass these games down to my daughter someday.

The people that say they just won't miss out playing a game because it is digital only or a game key card are weak consumers. Sorry but that's how I feel.

In an age of anti-consumerism everywhere you need to communicate using your wallet. It's the only thing corporations understand.

By saying you disagree with something but plan to buy it anyways tells corporations that you actually agree with it.

So I am part of a minority, but a vocal one! I won't be buying a single Game-Key card. Hell, I'm not even buying a switch 2 for years until they lower that price.

Maybe I'll miss out on some games...probably. A lost sale says a lot more than a guaranteed one.

Re: Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Announced For Switch 2

noDRMWizard1

@SlackerArtist Actually that is very inaccurate.

About 74% of physical games have the data on the disc, install from the disc, and do not require online connectivity to play.

Do yourself a favor and stop propagating rumors that you hear instead of investigating for yourself.

Visit doesitplay.org

BTW I own hundreds of PS4 and A LOT of PS5 games and zero (0) of them require an internet download.

All of my games install from the disc from compressed data and are unpacked and installed on the console from the disc directly.

The game cannot run without the disc, but no Internet connectivity is required to install or play.

I would know. I have only ever connected my PS5 to the internet once on day 1 and it's been offline since.

Re: Former Assassin's Creed Lead Isn't Happy About Switch 2's Game-Key Cards

noDRMWizard1

I didn't buy and support "download code only" and "download required" games on Switch 1 and...

I will continue to NOT support this practice on Switch 2 and that includes NOT BUYING Game Key Cards.

These games companies are losing me with some of these anti-consumer practices.

Not trying to sound all "old man yells at cloud" but what happened to the fun of gaming. The anticipation. Trading games with friends, playing through a finished game despite its flaws/glitches.

IDK I wanted to hand my game collection down to my daughter (6 yo) when she is older like my family members did for me.

I can't hand her little garbage pieces of plastic that don't do anything. I refuse to re-buy a game every 10 years. I refuse to pay $70 (now $80) on a digital copy locked to an account.

Gamers are literally boiling frogs in a pot. They are happily allowing themselves to be cooked.

Re: Elden Ring On Switch 2 Will Introduce Two Brand New Character Classes

noDRMWizard1

Refuse to buy any Game key Cards.

I am going to speak with my wallet. Already own a PS5 copy of Elden Ring and its all on the disc.

These things are slowly meant to condition publishers and gamers to go digital. It strips ownership of your copy of the game.

They are essentially timed rentals! In 10 years Nintendo will shut down the servers and your cart will be worthless.

So sick of the fallacy that no games are on cart/disc anymore either. According to doesitplay.org 74% of games require NO Downloads.

I believe all of the hundreds of switch, PS4 and PS5 games I own are all playable without internet in some way shape or form.

Especially with Nintendo, a predominantly Toy company, moving away from physical games is a slap in the face to gamers that have been with them since the 80's such as myself.

I am not saying every game can fit on a cart, but if cyberpunk can put theirs on a 64Gb cart, a lot of 3rd party publishers can. I know the PS4 copy of Elden Ring is around 45ish GB so there you go.

Was it that they couldn't do it,...or didn't want to. They love the idea that they can make you buy the game again in 15 years.

This Anti-consumer BS will be the Achilles heel of Nintendo and the games industry. At this point the whole business needs to hit the reset button.

Re: Elden Ring's Switch 2 Physical Version Seemingly Tarnished By 'Game-Key Card' Release

noDRMWizard1

I might buy a Switch 2 Eventually but if the game is not on the cart, I will not buy that game.
PERIOD.

As someone who often still plays my 3DS/DS and all my old Nintendo consoles, this WILL directly affect me when they shut the servers down in 10 years or so.

I am planning on leaving my game collection to my daughter someday so I have a vested interest in those games being playable. Whether she keeps them to play or sells them is up to her but they will be hers to decide what to do with, not Nintendo's decision.

People need to grow some balls and speak with their wallets. I hear so much of "well this sucks but I'll give them money anyway". Look what happened with Alan Wake 2. People protested the no physical copy and sales tanked. What did Remedy do? They came out with a physical copy to appease a portion of people that refused to buy the product.

If you say you don't support a behavior, you can't turn around and just say "well I'm going to support it anyway and hope the giant money making corporation will just do the right thing"

Nintendo offers (from what I know) 8GB - 64GB on the new S2 carts to third party game publishers. They might even have a 128GB card (unconfirmed).

A 64gb high speed SD card can be gotten for $10 these days on Amazon. Nintendo's carts are probably cheaper. They are probably charging $2-3 bucks for a 64GB card wholesale.

Many of these third party games can fit on a 64gb card. But you are seeing these games announced as download keys on 8GB carts with Switch 2...and they will be $80-$90 !

Bravely Default literally says the cart requires a full game download of "11GB".....11 GB !!!! They couldn't be bothered to fit that on a cart.

Street Fighter 6 requires a full game download of "50GB" ?!?!? ...why can't that fit on the 64GB cart ? Cyberpunk 2077 will apparently be on the cart and be upwards of 60GB so we know it can be done!

Elden ring PS4 version is 45GB on disc....yet this is this a Game Key Card on Switch 2. Why is FromSoft and Nintendo requiring a download of the full game?

Why?...That is the question you should ask yourself and you know the answer already.
