@scully1888 that's brilliant. Sorry I misinterpreted it as being bothered. I've no doubt that your experience trumps some internet comments, I didn't mean to sound condescending.
@sixrings it's not that hard to understand. Challenging games and modes are there for people when they want to be challenged. Easier modes are there for people when they are short of time and want to see everything a game has to offer.
This article doesn't really warrant this amount of discussion. Like I said before, it's been talked about on IGN loads, and me and my friends have been talking about it for years, especially since we all had kids.
People can play the way they want once the game is in their possession. There's really no point being bothered by that or trying to argue about it.
@sixrings "part of gaming" but definitely not an essential part, whatsoever. If I only play single player games I'm not competing with other at all. So who cares? People can play any way they like.
@scully1888 that makes sense. I just wouldn't put stock in the insult of a guy who's clearly just doing it on purpose to annoy you. He has no stock in this situation and is doing it purely to get a response.
@scully1888 why would you even respond to that? He's obviously a troll. If you don't have a lot of free time why bother with the comment section on a website?
I feel like I've never really seen many if any people giving out about the difficulty people play on. Sure, there's online banter where people mock you if you suck and all that jazz, but I'd like to think people don't take that seriously. I like how this piece was mainly an advertisement for how busy the author is though 🤣 can't fault a bit of horn blowing I guess! Lol
IGN have been talking about this plenty this year on Game Scoop. I thought it would be common sense that it's fine, especially nowadays when people are so busy with kids and work and there are so many games to play!
Anyone else think they should do away with scores on Nintendo Life? A lot of reviews this year particularly have been so odd in the correlation between what's written and the score a game ends up getting.
@ashaka I couldn't agree more. I really wanted to like it, and I do try my best not to be down on things other people like, because what's the point? But I am genuinely baffled that people enjoyed that show. It was beyond boring and terribly made.
I thought today's Mini was pretty good, given the short notice, clarity that it wouldn't contain any major announcements and the overall vibe of it. WWE looks silly and fun as hell XD
@scully1888 @SeerCoot @Razer man, you wrote the review and many people are just saying that the writing doesn't feel like it lines up with the score. It's not some hideous insult to your experience or method. It's one review and people are airing their feelings on it. Honestly if it works you up this much maybe you should be the kind of person who writes a review and runs away. It's a video game review on the internet, not the Canterbury Tales.
@Collette really good points! I had never thought of it that way. Maybe some of the trauma he was dealt from years of in ring action could have been avoided with a bit more R&R on the company's part. It's a shame. He definitely had an impact, I know Chris Jericho still remembers him fondly, despite how his life ended.
@Grot I think that cancel culture is one of our biggest problems, but only really regarding free speech or morality. If it's legality we're talking, and as in Benoit's case a heinous and horrible crime, I think it makes sense not to include him in a way. But I totally understand your meaning.
This is such a no brainer, I've been saying it since even before the Wii Virtual Console, but that was the point where me and my friends were championing for a version that is practically identical but just upgrades the roster, arenas, music etc. It makes so much sense I genuinely can't believe they haven't done it yet
@impurekind this is actually perfectly put. I used to be an avid visitor of IGN. I knew the staff by name, got excited when I saw a review by my favorite member etc. Likewise I used to read CVG, the magazine, back in the day and each month was so damn exciting. The effort put in back then was stellar, and it showed in every word and article.
Nowadays it's all just so impersonal and generic. I think generic is a really good way to describe it. And you'd think in a way that with the internet and such ready access there would be even more quality content when it comes to game coverage, but sadly it's not the case. It's all more rushed and sub par in these overcrowded times. It's probably only going to get worse, unfortunately. In the last few years I've been slowly moving away from reviews, and damn it feels good. With YouTube now it takes no time at all to watch some gameplay videos to see if a game interests you. Or sometimes it's good to go in blind, like the old days when you'd go to the store with your own money and just take a chance.
I get that that's not an option today really, and people should rightfully be careful with their money. But I'd rather spend my time playing games rather than worrying too much about the coverage and reviews at this stage. If I have to I might read a round up to get the general consensus, but at the end of the day it's my choice.
I don't see games journalism bouncing back from the internet unfortunately, and it's a shame. At least the games will stick around ha 😅
@TG16_IS_BAE yeah that's true. If such a fundamental part of the gameplay isn't great but the rest of it is such fun it must be a difficult game to assess!
This isn't a bad review, just a truly bizarre one. It's a bit Frankenstein-esque in how it's put together, and I hope I'm not the only one leaving it without a clear idea of whether or not it's a great game I get that it couldn't be clearer that the author recommends it, but it's a bit Jekyll and Hyde in it's praise and disappointment.
That, and the score is not reflective of the negative tone to a lot of the review. Still, it is what it is!! I've never seen an 8/10 review turn so many people off buying a game. Weird times.
@scully1888 ah yeah, that does make sense when you talk about house style, fair point. I'm with ya though, never got the whole "this is the same site/magazine that gave insert game a 10". Ugh, the site isn't a sentient being.
@scully1888 I suppose Nintendo Life has always got that old school mag feel to it. I get that each review is that individual's opinion at the end of the day, but some sites and mags have their reviews as a general consensus for the publication as a whole. Now, it's up to the individual reader to have to some cop on and figure it out so I don't think it's fair at all to compare scores, I'm with you on that. But also, on the flip side, the use of "we" throughout can be a bit confusing if individuality is the angle you guys are coming from. Did one person play it, write the review and then share thoughts with the rest of the staff? I assume it needs approval so I'd imagine that's the case. But if others didn't have much input why not just say "I" for clarity's sake? Keep up the great work!
