@Znake I feared this too, but after playing it for quite some time it's essentially just like Odyssey but with DK. I guess the treehouse just wanted to focus on that unique aspect
@Yoshi3 the demo level which i've played looks a lot like a sky island in ToTK BUT it's filled to the brim with hidden secrets, collectables and platforming challenges, totally different so fear not
I've sunk probably 6 hours in the Bonanza demo (don't ask how), it's actually a lot greater than i initially thought. The controls are sublime and completely unique. The worlds you can explore are filled with secrets, treasure chests that contain maps, red balloons, gold bananas, fossils (of different rarity), gold coins and apples. I've counted around 10 collectables in total so far... There's also a battle mode that I think's separate to the main game where I presume DK fights wave after wave of enemies.
There are different strengths to different materials which DK can't break through and this gates progress in certain areas. This is just speculation, but I think DK will get stronger as the game goes on which will then allow him to access different areas of the worlds. Also there's explosive rocks that can access areas DK can't get into himself.
It's very like Odyssey in that there's lots of warp points in the worlds/sub layers that take you to specific platforming segments where you can find 2 or 3 gold bananas.
Oh also, you can view the map of the world you're on at any point and the damage you've inflicted on the stage is reflected on the map, very cool touch. The game feels a lot like dk64 done right.
I was fearful it would just be a game about destroying stuff, which i wouldn't find fun, but it's just used as a way
Also the IGN reviewer (Logan) is a massive Nintendo nerd and a big fan of the series, he hosts IGN's nintendo podcast, I'm sure he's not trolling and his review is worth considering. Though of course i hope he's wrong.
@PipeGuy64Bit my main concern is that, like Paper Jam, the game would just be too bloated with dull environments and minigames? Does the game now outstay it's welcome do you think?
@HammerGalladeBro exactly what I noticed too. Cutscenes are vastly more synced than the XBLA version, though not as good as the original. Frame rate has been super smooth so far, 30fps, a vast improvement over the original. I've not noticed any issues yet, 3 hours in.
@boxyguy i think you're right, but there are so many gamecube games that simply aren't good or popular enough to remake/sell at $60. The 4 Mario Party games, Star Fox Assault/Adventures, Mario Tennis/Golf, Wave Race, Battalion Wars, Eternal Darkness, Kirby's Air Ride, Wario Ware, Pokémon Coliseum, Wario World etc

Re: 'Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition' For Switch Rated By ESRB
Sounds a lot like NES remix
Re: Feature: 13 Studios That Should Take A Nintendo Series For A Genre Spin
Great article. Love loads of these. I always wanted Alpha Dream to make a Mario & Luigi game but with DK and Diddy and the kremlings, we can dream
Re: Random: Ocarina Of Time's Link Has Been Beautifully Recreated In Unreal Engine 5
@Wexter my thoughts exactly. i'd love a remake but with the OG art style in mind
