@HeroponRiki I think you misread my comment. I'm not saying that people should give ratings that don't reflect their feelings.
I'm saying that if everyone rates the game according to their feelings - at the end after averaging all of the ratings you get the actual result.
So again I'm not saying people should game the system. I'm saying that the system ends up spitting out the accurate score if you take all reviews into consideration.
If you don't agree with that averaged rating or people giving 0/10's based on legitimate complaints then that is another issue.
EDIT: re-reading it seems like that is exactly your issue. you don't agree with 0/10's.
"Looks like people have never owned a AC game before"
GC AC was not like this, nor were. Also, yes there are people who are either new to gaming & this is their first AC. does that make their feedback invalid?
I work in customer-facing software & feedback from new users on our product is one of the most important pieces of feedback we get... the fact that some are saying that "hey it's how it's always been" is a giant red flag that something is wrong & hasn’t been fixed lol. it shows a legendary amount of willful-ignorance.
@Losermagnet thanks for actually looking for civil discourse vs scoffing & dismissing
While Animal Crossing doesn't progress like other games, part of the fun is collecting and being rewarded for collecting which the 2-8 players can't do. You can't donate to the museum, upgrade the shop, or progress the story (even if there's not a ton).
This might not seem like a huge deal once you reach the endgame but collecting resources for the first few shop upgrades or finding your first few fish & critters for the opening & growing of the museum are highly rewarding and, due to the "island representative" design choice the other players are relegated to watch from afar, feeling like they aren't as important. It completely ruins your first impression of the game & leaves a terrible taste in your mouth. And there is no way around this, unlike previous games where new memory cards or carts would solve this.
@Hippy_Pirate_89 That's a good point - and after this convo it's obvious that game reviewers had a very narrow use case (single player, no family) when reviewing this game & deserve criticism on their own
however I think it's totally reasonable for fans to go directly to the source & review the game based on their experience. There are user reviews for literally everything (amazon, app store, etc) why not video games?
@Mountain_Man @Hippy_Pirate_89 if you take the reviews in the context they are given - they are perfectly informative. the fact that you don't think so means that you either don't agree or aren't willing to see their side of the story. either case doesn't invalidate their claims & reviews.
Also if you read professional reviews this ***massive*** quirk to the game is pretty much invisible. I bought the game after reading reviews only to find out, after my wife made her character & I was making mine, that this is how the game works. IMO the "professional" reviews are doing a disservice to this game & it's fanbase.
these reviews (top results in google) give exceptional scores but don't mention anything about the single island & island rep limitations:
There are plenty of parents saying that their children are fighting over this game which makes it unplayable. Do you think this was surfaced in any professional review?
@HeroponRiki I feel like you argue against your own point. Wouldn't the 0/10's average out the 10/10's & result in an actually accurate average score?
0/10's for player 2-8's that feel like they're being robbed of an experience they paid for
10/10's for solo players who play the game like anyone should be able to and have a fantastic time
pepper in the 6, 7, 8, 9's & you get a slightly above average rating which I think is totally accurate. It's a great game that delivers on all the AC franchise should - but the mechanics/design around the single island & single, permanent representative brings it down substantially.
While the game does so so so much right - the decisions they made around one island & one permanent island rep per switch is game-breaking. Every player after the first has legitimate reason to rate this game 0/10.
And the fact that I even thought about buying a new console to get around this limitation disgusts me. Think about that for a second. The way that a game is designed is encouraging you to buy an ENTIRE NEW CONSOLE. Outrageous.

Re: One Month Later, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Review-Bombing Is Only Getting Worse
@pblive how was Nintendo "burned" by people selling saves?
Re: One Month Later, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Review-Bombing Is Only Getting Worse
@Losermagnet nope
& thank you for hearing me out

Re: One Month Later, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Review-Bombing Is Only Getting Worse
@Losermagnet yes - there are people who are upset about not having their own island & being able to dictate their own progress.
is that so hard to imagine?

Re: One Month Later, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Review-Bombing Is Only Getting Worse
@Mountain_Man well I skipped that one. did they also tie all progress to a single account and not allow other players to contribute?

Re: One Month Later, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Review-Bombing Is Only Getting Worse
@pblive @Mountain_Man for those saying that it used to be more strict - I would gladly buy another cart for another island.
but we don't have that option - so wouldn't that make this installment "more restrictive"? Players are limited to buying another Switch or Switch Lite
Re: One Month Later, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Review-Bombing Is Only Getting Worse
people being attacked for expressing their feelings about a game.. what an internet
