@SMH88 I agree, I always trusted in Nintendo hardware for durability, but I've sent in the Switch for repair already because the micro card slot kept ejecting the card, sent in 4 pairs of joycons for repair and keep telling my son to be gentle with his switch because it feels way to fragile.
@IronMan30 I had stopped gaming because with young children, never had time to go to the basement and sit there for hours playing, then the Switch came, still remember Canada Post arriving outside the house, we had just had an ice storm, so I rushed out to help get the package and save her from slipping on my icy although sanded steps. Like you 4 switches later, the whole family has a switch for themselves.
@lillith I got lucky with Mario Odyssey getting it at 50$ at Walmart online back in June, but I don't get why the digital prices of games are more expensive then the physical copies, shouldn't it be the other way around? And unlike the Playstation Store, we need to pay taxes on digital purchases. So, yeah, love to own them all, but "shiiiiitttt".
@Manjushri I new the game was priced at 10$US, so I bought 100$ iTunes card for 75$ during a Costco sale knowing I'd use the 15$ saved to buy the game. I keep playing it every 2 hours or so just so I can beat my friends as they progress during the stages. Gotta be #1.
WOW!!! Inspired commercial. Nintendo is finally going hip. Where were these commercials during the Wii U launch? It worked for Playstation making "inspired" commercials without showing gameplay. They've just sold 50 Million consoles!!! So this type of advertising does work.
@C-Olimar You're absolutely right, it does get expensive. I own all the disney Infinity figures, started collecting Skylanders for my boy since everyone at school has them(was lucky to get the previous releases dead cheap), and own all the Amiibo. I just didn't want to start Dimensions, it would be more money to shell out. But too many releases year after year, parents can't keep up.
@Jeronan You're absolutely right. Try explaining to your children like I had to mine that playing honestly won't get you far because people using unfair tools are having a big advantage.
@Alundra-1998 @MemoDuh Truthfully, I've pretty much gave-up on the app. My kids don't play it anymore, I basically talk to myself in the app. The introduction of the miidrop game for tickets is a good idea.
When my daughter was 7, she brought her DS to school for tech day. Now that she is 10, she asked to bring the IPAD. She plays her 3DS often(loves Tomadachi Life) but she says no one at her school plays Nintendo games. Even if people play Nintendo games, I believe they keep it secret because it's not the "in" thing. I personally don't like phone/tablet games yet I'm not the person Nintendo has to target. Nintendo needs to prove to those kids they're "cool" or else it's game-over.
I believe Nintendo has changed it's tune recently. I remember when Wii came out in North America, they did everything to hide the Nintendo brand. They felt the Nintendo brand had become sour with gamers, hence the word Wii was marketed towards the casual folk. Yet, here in 2015-16, all gamers want is to buy Nintendo merchandize. The Nintendo brand is back in the psyche of our culture. People are proud to show they love Nintendo again and pulling for them to be back on top, or I'm totally misreading the situation.
Love your article Thomas, especially about the refreshing positive take of Miitomo. I find their are way to many cynics online who just can't enjoy anything(a little different and cute).
Been playing Miitomo with my children and we are definitely having a blast. I got Zelda Picross on Day 1 on my 3DS, my son got Wario Touched on his 3DS! My daughter is deciding what she wants for her 3DS. It's all free not meant to be anything more than an incentive to remind people that Nintendo still exists. It's charming, cute, weird, colourful - thumbs up to Nintendo!

Another bundle to buy when they have their usual 25% off 3 months from now. But I really want the original Robocop cruiser.
