Let's face it, people are going to complain about any system that has games release for more than two weeks in a row. I didn't really mind seeing a steady stream of NeoGeos, but we know many others think otherwise.
I won't be buying either of this week's offerings, but it did point me in the direction of a few other possible titles. (like Lords of Thunder)
I dig using the Wiimote sideways for NES emulation. It feels comfortable with or without the Wiimote condom, and that's one less thing to have plugged in. (like the CC or this new thing would) Plus, no offense to the ol' Famicon, but that controller is ugly.
Question about the Megaman Anniversary compliation for the 'Cube - Are the fire/jump buttons reversed? Some guy on an Amazon.com review was complaining about that. Honestly, it's enough to keep me from buying it if the original B&A functions are reversed.
If it's going to be a NeoGeo overhead shooter, I'd rather play Guerrilla War. Even the NES port of that was pretty fun to play co-op.
That's not so much a complaint as it is simple commentary. I've lowered my expectations for the VC, in order to make the pleasant surprises that much more exciting.
After some, uh, 'playtest investigations', Ninja Commando seems pretty awful. I'd rather play Guerrilla Wars on the NES, if we're choosing top-down shooters. As for AoF2, I'm too picky with Fighters to bother shelling out money for that, if it hits America. Regardless, I don't mind the NeoGeo trend as long as they throw in some familiar mainstream faves (see: other systems) occasionally.
Oh, and Virtual Console is not serious business. Everybody calm down.
I'll gladly take the stream of NeoGeo titles, since I never owned the system. I also don't have a NeoGeo emulator, so there's a better chance of me actually finding a good game I haven't played.
Not every VC purchase of mine is one I've already played & loved. I see the VC as a chance for me to get some obscure games I may have missed before. (especially on non-nintendo systems)
IMO, SS is a much better fighter than KoF'94. Then again, I say this having played SS earlier in life and not being impressed with the 900 pts I spent on KoF'94 here. I'd trade back those 900 Wii points and spent them on SS in a heartbeat. Oh well. Live & learn. I thought I'd take a chance on a game that I'd never played, on a system I'd never owned.
Bottom line: If you enjoy 2d fighters with weapons, you will most likely enjoy Samurai Shodown. (I enjoy this more than Street Fighter, but I prefer weapons to kung-fu/fist any day)
One game from a series is enough for some of us. Anthologies are great if you're going to play them quite a lot, or are a particularly huge fan of the entire series, but not everyone is or will be. Plus what the guy below me says about controls. That too.
I really would prefer Last Blade 1 or 2, but Samurai Shodown is still excellent. Good memories of playing this on an arcade box in the old skating rink...
If I buy this, I can move that lousy King of Fighters '94 into cold SD storage...
Samurai Showdown is better than most of the blah that could've shown up. Not bad. Similar to the Metal Slug anthology situation, I might be satisfied just buying a single VC version rather than dumping $30 for 7 games. (since I wouldn't actually bother playing all 7) I like the option of having it there w/o needing to swap discs. Sure, it does take up blocks then, but I'm choosy with downloads...
I don't think 900 points is a waste if you only want one Metal Slug game. Not everyone cares enough to need all 7 or however many there are. I've played a few emulated, and while they're fun, I can't see myself playing them enough to dump the $30 either.
Earthbound is not a regular RPG. It's quirky, original, and just plain off the wall sometimes. I loved it back then, though the jury's still out on whether I'd actually buy it for the Wii to replay. Definitely would prefer to replay this than FF7 though....
Seriously though, I don't think Bionic Command on the VC is going to influence the new BC sales much. The people who are buying it anyway will still buy, and the noobs who didn't play the original will still be up for grabs.
Then again, I probably wouldn't buy it on VC anyway. I'm picky.
I enjoyed this game back then, but probably won't buy it on VC. I'd really prefer to have something like Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. (hint, hint)
I know what you mean, ICE. Nothing on the N64 is "classic" to me.
I probably won't buy Wonder Boy, but I'm glad to see a Master System game come. They weren't popular at all here in the 'States. If we're going to pick a Kirby to compare to Wonder, then maybe Kirby's Adventure on the NES. That's a classic, and is worthy of being on the VC for sure.
I'm paying for a service. They should thank me for giving them money for old software that most people wouldn't consider worth five dollars. (not that 'most' implies anyone with taste, since I do loves me some gaming nostalgia) Releasing one game a week reduces my interest in the service as a whole, and makes me less likely to care about future VC releases.
I'm pretty picky about what I download though. My purchases tend to be restricted to the "must buy faves" (on which I can count with no more than two hands) and "ooh, never released here" titles like Mother, etc. And the occasional fighting game, but there aren't many I consider worth buying on VC yet. (especially not enough to warrant a NeoGeo Stick)
"It works fine with the CC (I'd say at least as well as it would with the ugly three-pronged 64 controller) but I'd really prefer a nunchuk/remote combo. After being spoiled by Wii games it's really annoying to have to use a stick to move a cursor!"
I agree. This looks like it could be some great old-school shoot-em-up fun, but I'd rather waggle a Wiimote than move a cursor by analog. That, and this is only one player. Shame, since these types are always more fun w/ 2+ players. Oh, and it's twelve bucks. (tho I appreciate the translation work)
It's okay to say it. SMW2: Yoshi's Island is better than the first Super Mario World. Especially in terms of art direction. The only downside is Baby Mario's crying.

Re: Retro Gamer Magazine Interview VC Reviews
Nice work. As others have said, it's a shame there's no equivalent in the U.S.

Speaking of the obscure hero, he looks to be Mr. Game & Watch in his early, more fleshy years.

So Megaman 9 is going to be a retro sequel or what?

Maybe Bubble-Pop Special Edition for double the Wii Points!
:/
Re: ESRB To Crack Down On Early Leaks Of Games
Not a big deal to me, but it's a bit odd. Not like we've yet to see games like Earthbound anyway, even after it's been ESRB approved.
I still want Zombies Ate My Neighbors, but I'm pretty sure that'll never release now, having been removed from the ESRB list.

"Easily", sure. Quickly? Not so much.

Nintendo channel takes up much more than the Photo channel. Look up the block sizes.

Re: US VC Release - 16th June - Samurai Shodown
So much nostalgia from playing this at the local roller rink's arcade... I, too, have always misspelled the title. My life has been a fraud.
If I bought this, I'd likely move the (crappy) King of Fighters '94 into SD cold storage.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Block Breaker Deluxe and Cocoto Fishing Master
Hmm, pass.
Re: OFLC Update - Super Mario RPG On Its Way To Europe
Super Mario RPG isn't Square's best game, but it's far from not worth playing. I recommend it to anyone looking who loves SNES-era RPG.
Re: Only Geeks And Otaku Want Extra Storage On The Wii
Translation: We make ridiculous amounts of money and you are not important. (see: consumer minority)
Hopefully NOA isn't as dumb about this, as the Wii has been receiving complaints about its lackluster capacity since the Virtual Console release.
Re: US VC Release - 2nd June - Ninja Combat
Guess I'll just keep playing Dr. Mario...

Re: US VC Releases - 26th May - Metal Slug
I don't think 900 points is a waste if you only want one Metal Slug game. Not everyone cares enough to need all 7 or however many there are. I've played a few emulated, and while they're fun, I can't see myself playing them enough to dump the $30 either.
@EverydayJOE - No, this is easier than Contra.
Re: Review: Dr. Mario Online RX
This was worth my 1000 points. Nice to see them release games that are both fun and worthwhile. (hello - 700 for bubble popping? eesh)
Re: US VC Releases - 26th May - Metal Slug
Bought Dr. Mario & Metal Slug. I don't buy often, so I'm pleased by the releases.
Although Metal Slug seems to have some slow-down issues when the action gets flying.
Re: Square-Enix Changes Its Mind About The Virtual Console?
I think they need to get over themselves and commit to the VC. I'd prefer that over combined disc releases.
Re: North American WiiWare launch games
I'm not buying that junk. WiiWare games, even moreso than VC, are going to have to impress the money out of me.
The Final Fantasy sim looks the most interesting, but I don't think I'd actually sit down and play it. Dr. Mario would be tempting though.
Re: Playtest: The Shaft Virtual Console joystick
Pass.
A for effort though.

Re: US VC Releases - 28th April - Double Dragon
I enjoyed this game, but wouldn't buy any Double Dragon title that didn't also include Battletoads.

Re: Three Interplay-Owned Franchises Coming to VC
I was happy up until reading the 'releasing on Genesis' part. Heck, it beats getting another Street Fighter or Turrican game though, so that's good.
Next up: Zombies Ate My Neighbors and SMW2: Yoshi's Island! (uh, please)
Re: US VC Releases - 21st April - River City Ransom
I enjoyed this game back then, but probably won't buy it on VC. I'd really prefer to have something like Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. (hint, hint)
Re: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
I actually loved this game. The first Zelda was great too, and more along the lines of the series' pattern.
Still, I've great memories of this game, its uniqueness, difficulty, and music.

Re: US VC Releases - March 31st - Wonder Boy
I liked Cruisin' back then, but would never consider it good today.

Next Week: Ultra Turrican!
Re: Talking Point: The State of Play of the Virtual Console
I'll gladly shut up about Virtual Console service once Zombies Ate My Neighbors is released.

Re: Tetris is Coming to WiiWare - Online Play Included
If it's five bucks - sure.
Re: WiiWare interview - Plättchen Twist 'n' Paint (Bplus)
Bongos in Brawl - CONFIRMED?
Heh, looks innovative, I suppose. Fifteen bucks is a little steep for an odd title like this though. We'll see.

Ooh Catan... that would be awesome.
I'll pass on the competitive eating.
Re: First Official Images of the New Neo-Geo Stick for Wii
SNK needs to release about ten more fighters onto VConsole before I'd even consider buying this.
Re: More C64 Details Emerge - Keyboard Input, Loading Times
I don't know. Nostalgia is one thing, but I'm not sure that I'm willing to shell out money for anything pre-NES, myself.

It's okay to say it. SMW2: Yoshi's Island is better than the first Super Mario World. Especially in terms of art direction. The only downside is Baby Mario's crying.
