Calm down, wiiboy. It's an isometric view, which might as well be 2D, even if most everything else is modeled in 3D. (aside from character sprites, etc)
marktheshark - I'd say they're above average on the difficulty scale, if I had to generalize. Some characters have easy, high-damage moves that plow through half the game, yet there will always be certain difficult opponents. Haven't played them all though. (just one and two)
When I bought SS1 on VC, I found it more difficult than I'd remembered. (but it had been a long time since being into fighters) That's my observation as a casual fighter fan. I'm sure the more hardcore would find it easier or have more technical assessments of its merits/annoyances.
More demos = less piracy. I've technically pirated games just to demo them, but ended up uninstalling and deleting them after a quick try. I've also downloaded games, tried them out, and then bought them. Makes more sense than blowing $40-60 on a chance when you're on the fence and w/o a demo.
I think piracy may play a larger part in this DS game than others because it appeals to an older demographic. This demographic is more savvy in terms of "appropriating" media, IMO. On the other hand, they're also the ones with jobs and money to purchase... so who knows.
2D GTA doesn't bother me, but the fact that there's a cop every 10 feet does. Still a good game though, from what little I've seen.
I love this idea. Might buy it even though I already have SS1 on VC. (more portable than taking my Wii somewhere else for VC/WW) Maybe not for $30 though, considering the PS2 version can be had for ~$15...
More stringent review scores would be a good idea, as others have said. No one's going to believe that so many games are deserving of 8s & 9s. I think the slant here is that, while it may deserve a 9/10 in light of being a retro repackage, it wouldn't get as high of a score on a more general scale. (i.e., compared to a 'normal' release like Galaxy or the upcoming Demon Blade)
It's not that I'm hating on it, but there's absolutely no reason for me to get one. They announce it a month after I buy my first DS (lite) and expect me to be excited. :/
It's kind of like adding minimal features/upgrades to the Wii, most of which won't even be utilized in more than 5-10% games, and charging $325 USD for it. (the same +30% increase that the DSi has over the Lite)
I think more devs need to approach the Wii like the Star Wars: Force Unleashed model. (not that it was necessarily the greatest game)Say what you want about the Wii version, yet at least it wasn't a dumbed-down clone.
Games like Madworld prove that some 3rd-party devs can actually get it done right. The Wii isn't bleeding edge hardware, but the right art style can still nail a great presentation. (like Galaxy did, though it's 1st party)
Oddly enough, I thought the VB was fun to try out in stores. (including this game, but I mostly remember Wario) Then again, it was an ideal setup with the viewer on an eye-level shelf. Playing the console in a real-world situation was much more likely to induce vertigo or inflict spinal injury.
The N64 is the console that turned me toward PC gaming instead. It just didn't give me what I really wanted. (which isn't to say that it completely sucked, but ultimately meh)
I think the whole iPhone buzz has more to do with expanding phone/device games than it does with replacing the DS. It does neat things with motion, similar to the DS making waves with its stylus. Remember the NGage? Most people only remember it for how much it sucked, and the ridiculous idea of buying a gaming cell phone. iPhone seems to be a nice middle ground, assuming you're hip to paying smartphone subscription fees. Otherwise, do it on a Touch.
Apples and Oranges though, as far as I'm concerned. (oh so punny) In the end, the devs making the games are the real winners there. (some are crossing over into WiiWare, Casual PC downloadables on Steam, etc)
Not a terrible game for FF and Mystery Dungeon fans, but the "kiddyness" really got on my nerves. I bought this, but eventually stopped playing partway through.
I think they're coming from the angle of "We have a niche, retro demographic that paid $10-18 dollars for our 8-bit game & DLCs. I'm sure those nostalgic suckers'll drop $30 for the soundtrack."
Loved the game, but pass. Maybe $15 tops, honestly.
Cue Sports: The 4-player factor, low price point, and fact that it's less sleazy than Midnight Pool makes it a decent buy for me. If I'm playing it with my niece & nephew, I'd rather not have it w/ women looking kinda trampy. (and since WiiPlay's 9-ball is only 2 player...)
I bought Startropics last January, and still haven't finished it. I'd forgotten how difficult it could be at times, which makes me play it once every two months.
Think I'll pass on Startropics 2. It got bad reviews then, and I don't expect it's gotten any better in 15+ years.
Forgot to mention that I keep an EWJ action figure on my desk at work. Just so we put my love for the series in perspective.
People kind of expect a level of weirdness from artists, so no one really bats an eye. Any kids that come in love it, since his head pops out of the suit w/ the push of a button. (Evil the Cat resides on my PC desk at home)
I actually enjoy NES music, oddly enough. Enough so that I'll listen to 8-bit remixes while working, or similar stuff like Trash80. There's just something about the Genesis sound gamut that bothers me. Deeply and disturbingly. I'm not really even sure why, but it's been like that since I was a kid playing the stuff for the first time. I enjoyed some Genesis titles like Sonic and Mutant League Football, but overall, I can take or leave most of its library. (borrowed a Genesis for a few months, but didn't own one)
More importantly, it bugs me enough to not buy a version I'm not fond of. I think I played the bonus level on the PC version, so I'll live.
Like I said though... I've always loved playing and drawing Earthworm Jim. I could do the latter with my eyes closed. I have a VHS of one of the cartoon episodes, but I can take or leave that. The game's where it's really at anyway.
Yeah, still not buying the Genesis version. I'd gladly purchase a non-ninty title, but the Sega sound just bugs the crap out of me. So much so, that I can't play a lot of games on the system. It just drives me nuts; I'd rather listen to 8-bit sound, given the alternative.
I don't expect a SNES version to be released now, and I love EWJ, but that's okay. It won't kill me. But listening to a kid trying to emulate a game soundtrack with his armpit just might, and that's what most of the Genesis sounds like to me. So, to someone who originally played the Genesis version, it might not be a big deal. As someone who fondly loved and remembers the SNES version, I'd rather keep my nostalgia intact.
Hate me all you like, but I will not download anything but the SNES version. Sega's sound chip drives me nuts. This is coming from a guy who drew Jim for years and years on school notes, etc. I love the character, but not enough to buy this atm. The extra level does look neat though.
While you level up, etc, it's much more action-oriented than traditional RPGs. No turns, etc. There is a 'cooldown' or recharge for your attacks, so you can't swing constantly and do full damage, but it just paces things.
I always get a little annoyed at figuring out where to go in the first parts of the game, but it's still a favorite. Just got to the Ruins in Pandora tonight, and this is one VC title I'm not losing interest in after a few hours.

So, wait, we play as a chick now?
Re: WiiWare Sales Targets: More Details Emerge
6,000 might be a stretch for that beer pong game, but I think any quality title would do just fine.
Re: Talking Point: Could The Conduit Be in for a Rough Ride at Retail?
There's enough hype, I think it'll do fine. If not right away, then in the long run. (assuming it isn't crap, which has yet to be seen)
Re: Nintendo’s Stock Drops 7.5%
Reality check, Nintendo. You are not immune.

Re: Some WiiWare Developers Won't Get Paid
Seems like a front-end QA process would be a better idea, but who's Nintendo to turn away free money?
Re: It’s Tyson vs. Aliens in Aborted NES Punch Out!! Sequel
The music is one of the worst parts. It has absolutely no relevance to what's going on in the game.

Slap Last Blade 1 or 2 on there and I'll make a purchase.
Re: Sony: PSP is Better Than The DSi
If the DS can get a PC gaming-type guy in his late 20s to enjoy a portable gaming device, I think it's hitting a wide enough market.
On the other hand, no way am I ever buying a DSi. They announce it weeks after I finally buy a Lite and expect me to be excited.
Re: Crystal Defenders R1 and R2 Coming to Europe Soon As Well!
I like Tower Defense, but it's not the kind of game I'd sit down to play on a Wii.
Re: Gamebridge Announces European Release of Overturn: Mecha Wars
If it's anything like the old school arcade game Cyber Sled, then maybe.

Can the rest of us non-models buy this device? I feel so average and unqualified. Also, I do not own a pair of white pants.
