Mario still handles a little too "slippery" for my liking, just like in the DS game. What I mean by that is that his handling isn't as tight as the NES or SNES games.
Most anything on the Wii looks iffy unless it adopts a distinct visual style. Unfortunately for IW, that doesn't work with MW2. Valve could pull it off with TF2 though...
ZAMN makes this the best VC week this year, despite WiiWare (still) not getting Cave Story.
@Warioswoods: I bought Startropics on VC right when it came out, and proceeded to also get stuck in the graveyard. I hate that place! Pretty sure it's why I haven't touched the game for the past year... Heh.
I have no problem with them using the Genesis version, so long as it doesn't sound anything like it. It does have that bonus level...
Despite how much I love the EWJ games, I initially hated on this game for being 'just' a port. Now that it's been a while though, I'm warming up to it. I haven't bought the VC version yet, so that's likely why. Owning both would be pretty pointless. (and, somehow, I no longer have the original game for the SNES)
The great news is that both my SNES and EWJ2 cart still work. Groovy.
@Kevin - Nope. The SNES didn't have split screen. By limitations, I just meant the hassle of having to stay together in the single screen ratio. It felt like tug-of-war on occasion, but it's not a real complaint.
I think the Genesis version sounds terrible, so I can live with purple blood. I usually don't like Genesis versions anyway, due to sound quality... or lack thereof. Some people are the exact opposite though, and I won't hate on their nostalgia. Different strokes, different consoles, different folks. Most of us were limited to only having one system back then, so it's not a big deal. (as long as they don't put the Genesis version on the VC)
I played the new Punch-Out!!, and it was alright, but the multiplayer fell flat. (loved the original) Guess I'm just a bigger fan of free-form combat when weapons & magic get involved. I'm only a casual observer of this game's progress, but M+ support seems like it would be somewhat moot in a pattern recognition dueler. I'd love for Ghostfire to prove me wrong and release a fun combat game where how you attack matters. (as opposed to dodge, block, swing away)
Like I said though, I'm still glad to see this coming to WiiWare, regardless. I'm not trying to be a Negative Nancy.
I dig the concept, but it seems like a waggle-fest. (between blocking/dodging) If I'm going to fight in an Arena, I'm probably better off just firing up Oblivion on my PC.
Still, it's nice to see a game like this headed to WiiWare + MotionPlus support.
Megaman 9 met all of my expectations, and I hope any future remakes are limited to the 8-bit generation. SNES, at the latest. The N64 really isn't classic in the same way, and its library hasn't aged well at all.
I somehow missed this during the SNES era, but it looks worth playing. Illusion of Gaia got coverage in Nintendo Power, but I didn't really know what it was about. (and I was likely too busy playing Secret of Mana)
@Old School I think the problem is that the DSi's hardware is not a generational leap, but an incremental one. Instead of being 8-10x more powerful, like a normal console upgrade, it's maybe 2x the CPU and 4x the ram. (and mostly to accommodate the size of DSiWare) We've also got to consider that these multipliers are using small numbers. It's not going from 64mb of ram to 256 or 512, but 4mb to 16mb.
I'd love to be proved wrong though, so we'll see what developers do with the new hardware.
I already have too many games on my DS "to play" list, so this won't have an effect on me for a while. Probably a year, at least, because I'm dreadfully slow about playing the DS.
While I actually love the fact that the DSi brings more power to the Nintendo handheld, it's not a very customer-friendly way to introduce it. The DSi is not marketed as a "faster" product but, instead, as one with a camera and other gimmicks. To be honest, I really couldn't care less about the DSi's camera or MP3 playback features. If it's faster, and therefore able to deliver games with higher production values, then you've got my ear.
As far as I can see, this stealth increase in performance is going to peeve off more discerning customers than it pleases. Assuming developers put this newfound horsepower to use, we'll see flashier games that Phat/Lite owners are unable to play. That wouldn't be an issue, except that it's not a generational hardware advance, but an incremental one. It just irks me, but I'll continue to play my Lite for the foreseeable future. (mostly because it's kind of a toy to me, not my main gaming platform) My hope (and expectation) is that the DSi-exclusive titles will be minimal and not worth the jump. This is fine, so long as N doesn't pressure devs into adding "just enough" new stuff to make it DSi-only.
Then again, parents will continue to buy this stuff for their kids by the truckload... So what does Nintendo care about a 20-something gamer's perspective... right?
Why is EWJ2 on the Genesis? I understand that the first game had exclusive content on there, but I'd rather have the second on SNES. Then again, I still have the cartridge and working system, so it's not a big deal. (the Genesis versions sound like crap)
This will sound odd, but I could see the original Doom being played well to some of these tunes. Different content, but both games have you as a lone combatant on a hostile planet. (probably because the rock style is reminiscent of Doom 3's retooled theme)
I normally dislike Metal, but game covers are alright. Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries had a metal soundtrack and it actually worked. Otherwise, the change in dynamics that go into this kind of metal would be too distracting for a normal Metroid game. (it's basically just loud all the time)
This game is making my inner Samurai Shodown-loving-12-year-old tingle. I'm not into the extras, and generally dislike anime junk, but the game looks like quality fun.
I had a random thought the other day of this being talked about in a Nintendo Power... and then never seeing it. So random. While I was playing Fallout 3, no less.

Re: We Pray - Coming To A Console Near You?
Hoax / Parody.
The black NES cartridge Bible games were way better. Sometimes, even fun.

Other than that, I'm quite pleased.
Re: Original Castlevania Ported To Half-Life 2, Sort Of
Speaking of Valve content and 8-bit relevance...
NES-style Left4Dead should be news here:

Re: Original Castlevania Ported To Half-Life 2, Sort Of
Kind of a novelty, but still applause-worthy.
Re: Nintendo Download: Pokémon, Whips, Fighters, Bowling Balls, Robots, Intersections and Demos (US)
Not a terrible week, but...
...still no Cave Story. Boo.
Re: Nintendo Download: Ninja Gaiden, My Zoo, Rock N' Roll Climber and Nintendo Touch Golf (EU)
Ahh, the crappier incarnation of Ninja Gaiden.
Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii Strategy Video
My Wii has been sitting unplugged for about two months, but this game makes my nostalgia tingle.
Re: Nintendo Download: Bikes, Frogs, Dragons, Bombs, Plankton and Cybernoids (US)
Hey, look - no Cave Story.

Re: Black Wii Unboxed Before Your Very Eyes!
I want to say "big deal," but that's actually pretty slick.
It would be even nicer if it were a Wii HD...
Re: Nintendo Download: Fights, Shooters, Sparkles, Vikings, Dragons, Carnivals, Escapes and Card Games (US)
Lots of titles, but still no Cave Story.
Re: It's Official: Big-Screen DSi LL is Confirmed
Whatever - I'm still not buying it. The DS Lite works just fine.
Re: Zombies Ate My Neighbors
If anybody enjoys this game and plays Left4Dead on the PC, here's a link to a spraypaint I made for it: http://www.fpsbanana.com/sprays/44799
Zombie solidarity.
Re: Nintendo Download: Zombies, Ghosts, Monkeys, Axes, Royal Bluffs and Even More Sudoku (US)
@ejamer:
It's best played as co-op, to be honest.

Still no Cave Story? Gotcha.
Re: Spread the Handheld Joy With a "Discover DS" Party!
Going for the Stepford demographic, I see. Classy.
Re: Review: MechAssault: Phantom War (DS)
MechAssault is a dumbed-down version of MechWarrior anyway. Good review, pass on the game.
Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Looks like a must-buy for me, unfortunately.
Re: Earthworm Jim 2
Sounds... so... awful... Still a great game though, despite the Genesis sound chip.

Re: Zombies Ate My Neighbors
One of my favorite SNES games, as well as a top co-op title. (despite the screen limitations)
Re: Zombies Ate My Neighbors Heading to Virtual Console for Real This Time?
Love this game. I hope younger gamers can appreciate this kind of classic.
Re: Review: Star Fox (Super Nintendo)
I remember playing this game at a booth in my local mall. Quality game, despite the lack of true flight freedom.

Re: Nostalgia North American Release Date Announced
Looks pretty neat for we retro RPG fans. It's a shame I'm so slow about playing these though... It's hard for me to commit to anything on a handheld.
Re: Nintendo of Europe Announces WiiWare and DSiWare Plans for the Rest of 2009
Caaaaaave Story. 'Bout time. Here's hoping NOA keeps pace or even releases it earlier.
The Worms title also interests me, but I haven't seen anything about it. I wonder how difficult the Ninja Rope is to use with a Wiimote...
Re: Review: Spaceball: Revolution (WiiWare)
Looks like a decent puzzler, but I'm still saving points for Cave Story. Maybe closer to Christmas when I'm likely to get gift cards.

Don't hate on Flash Cards for Homebrew. There are some good titles out there.

Re: Overturn: Mecha Wars Coming to WiiWare on Monday
I can't see the video, since it's been removed from YouTube, but what I can see reminds me of CyberSled. (from the arcades ~10 years ago)
Re: iPhone more powerful than Wii?
A port of a PC game lags on the Wii. Big surprise.
Re: Worms Coming to WiiWare and Possibly DSiWare
If it's 2D, I might be interested. 3D is the worst thing to ever happen to Worms.

No.
