People are complaining about hacked pokemon and stuff... the website says explicitly that QR codes are for scanning in order to learn where you can catch that pokemon in-game.
It will likely be like: "You got an eevee in Pokemon Ga-Ole, now scan to learn where you can capture one in Sun/Moon."
Also, it seems scanning for one you have already caught would show its info. I feel like the QR codes on the Ga-Ole plates are more for a quick and easy way to read a pokedex entry of that pokemon you just received, as if you were scanning a pokemon standing in front of you in the games/anime.
@EiserMeiser It's available in UK. UK is in the west. Therefore, it is available in the west. Is it available in every country that is in the west? No. Is it available in the west? Yes.
It's pretty clear how it is monetized: users may purchase the in-game currency used to buy outfits and such in the game.
Nintendo will probably make deals with other companies as well to promote brands/products within the app, not unlike Mercedes DLC for Mario Kart and Mario Maker. And like Badge Arcade, it will almost certainly promote new Nintendo games and products.
@Yorumi No one can say what will happen in, say, five or ten years from now, but knee-jerk cynical "ugh Nintendo might go mobile-only!" comments every time DeNA is mentioned get old really fast.
@Barbiegurl777 They won't go entirely mobile. Everyone seems to forget that the NX was announced the same time the DeNA partnership was specifically to show people Nintendo was still focused on consoles.
@consolfreak1982 Calm down, it's been 11 months since the last main series game. We're spoiled to have been receiving them each year. You're upset over your own conclusion-jumping about business strategies based on just a handful of games that don't fit into your taste. A lot of people are happy or excited for the very things you're complaining about. Personally I'm happy to see them try out different stuff for Pokemon, even if it might mean waiting a little longer for the next main series title--especially since IMO those are starting to get pretty stale.
@rdrunner1178 They ship internationally, I've used a Hobonichi Techo for 2 years now. They only recently (in 2014) had an English version of the book due to international popularity, so if the planners continue to gain more users I imagine in a year or two they'll consider actually selling them in other countries (or I hope--I don't want to spend $12 on shipping every time I buy from them -_-
It's all rather expensive, though. These covers cost ~$25 each.

Re: Hands On: Waiting for the End of the World in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse
@Nin10doh each game is independent (well, except for this one being a sequel), you can just start with IV.

Re: Nintendo and DeNA Smart Device Game Details Coming on 29th October, With Investors Demanding Specifics
@Yorumi Switching focus on Wii U //to another home console// doesn't say much about abandoning consoles entirely imo.

Re: Pokémon Developer Game Freak Acquires Smartphone Development Studio Koa Games
@crimsontadpoles I could be wrong, but I don't think Game Freak develops the stadium/colloseum type games.
Edit: Yeah, Genius Sonority made those spinoffs, not Game Freak.
