So, mostly I'm really excited. Looks very creative and fun. But...there's a small part of me that wonders if this game would start to get annoying after a while - it's soooo quirkily Japanese, some of the music could maybe get a little irritating,,,? I'm not sure, I've never played Rhythm Heaven on DS, Maybe it'd only be potentially annoying for spectators. Anyone have thoughts on this?
I think having an E-Reader added on would be pretty cool indeed... but I agree that they have to keep the wii motion plus and nunchuk options widely available. From what I have read/heard, the new controller buttons are annoyingly soft/mushy. I'm not digging that so much.
That picture is classic. Maybe they need to release the "Tiger Woods Golf story" game, culminating with an emotional breakdown in the field. : Seriously, why are they still making games attached to this guy's name? Blech.
Honestly, the first Epic Mickey game really grows on you (or at least it did for me). Yes, it is flawed w. a less-than-ideal camera, too many fetch quests, somewhat limited/shallow morality system, etc. but it really does have moments of brilliance as well, and the core paint/thinner mechanic is fun and cool. My hope for the 2nd game since it is in development for other consoles as well, is that we don't get a sloppy port of the next-gen consoles. Also, I hope that they can make the story equally compelling as the first game while improving certain gameplay aspects. Here's hoping...
Just saw the UK IGN video review - looks like a great game! Plenty of other games to keep me busy, so I'm in no rush to play this. Probably a wise move marketing wise on Nintendo's part to announce the release now, after SS has been released...
I definitely agree that options are good. Adding voices to other character really could enhance the series, IMO, but I am on the fence about giving Link a voice - it would have to be really good, and would probably be better in Japanese than English, honestly, which is how I usually feel about Anime. But, really, it feels like a no-lose situation if both voices and subtitles could be turned on/off. Then the anti-voice players could have what they want too...
Late to the discussion (as usual)... I agree with the many who think pricing should be in the $300-350 range. I think Nintendo loses a LOT of potential customers when it passes the $350 range. The cost at that point becomes prohibitive. If Nintendo has a great opening games line-up for Wii U, they'll make enough off of software sales. I really think that's where they need to focus their energy,
Count me out. I agree with the many who find the character designs to be bizarre and ugly. Repetitive button-mashing on top of that is a definite deal-breaker. Here's hoping Epic Mickey 2 is worlds better!
@darklinkinfinite Thanks for the info! I guess of the Metroidvania games, I'm most curious about "Symphony of the Night" as I know many regard as the finest (or one of the finest) games in the whole series. I have a PS2 that will play PS1 games, but I'm guessing that it's pretty hard to track the game down...?
@FluttershyGuy That's a very interesting point about some of the best SNES games coming out early in the console's lifespan. I guess one can never generalize, but it does seem that early lineups for a console can be indicative of what might come next. Hopefully I will be proven wrong in the case of the 3DS, as many feel it hasn't had the strongest of early lineups.
Anyway, I've only played the first 3 Castlevania games on NES. Castlevania III is easily my favorite. I guess I really should try Castlevania IV for the SNES...
Question: what consoles were Metroidvania games made for? And how many Castlevania games could be considered "Metroidvania" in style?
Something that the reviewer neglected to mention is the button mapping. I found it VERY awkward. Since there were no motion controls, I am boggled why they didn't included Classic Controller support. That would have been far preferable to the weird use of the D-stick to attack. There are other weird choices as well. Heck, to grab a baddie, you have to press the - (minus) button! Come on, that's just silly. In general, it's not a very satisfying game so far (I'm about 1/3 through it). I completely agree that the look and enemies are all incredibly generic and boss battles seem few and far between. Shattered Dimensions looked and played much better. For me, this game is a 6 at best, and Shattered Dimensions is a solid 8.
I love it!!! Fabulous job Nnooo. And also, mad compliments to Beat Therapy on the amazing soundtrack. I really hope that this game is a success for you guys.
@Philip. Your review was great! One slight correction: you said there were 5 worlds. Though I have only played through world 1 so far, it appears from the menu screen that there are actually 6 worlds, not 5.
This does look pretty cool. Add me to the list of people that definitely want to try the demo out before I commit to it, however. I really do hope a demo is on the way...
Like tinman, I am concerned by the extensive MIDI music heard in the trailer. If Mario Galaxy can have a fully orchestrated soundtrack, why can't they do the same with Zelda?? It just seems like a no brainer to me. Otherwise, the trailer was ok... I definitely liked the transition to the clouds, and the system for leveling items seems decent. But again, the MIDI music just sounds so...dated and ugh! Anyone know the extent to which the game will be orchestrated vs. not?
Loved it! Jimmy Fallon is the MAN. It was great how he told Reggie that they should chat over WiiU, and Reggie was like "sure!" and Jimmy was like, "you're lying." Perfect comic timing. I think it is great how Jimmy's enthusiasm over many things (including video games) just bubbles over into his show.

@8 and 12. That's what I'm saying - show a little love to DC, Ninty!

Re: Happy New Year from Nintendo Life!
Thanks for everything Nintendo Life! You are a beacon of truth and justice (or at least video game awesomeness! ) ;P

I'm dubious, to say the least. The mere inclusion of Smurfs makes the skin crawl...

Awww...where's everyone's sense of humor? It's a parody, people. I thought it was quite well done. It wasn't hilarious, no, but it was pretty good.

Re: Are You Afraid of Gnomes? You Will Be After This Gnomz Trailer
Looks...interesting. Cartoony graphics are smart, considering WiiWare limitations.
Re: Feature: Nintendo Life Book Club - Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
This may be the funniest article I've ever read. Love the dry wit, Chicken Brutus, sir! You should make a pretty penny reviewing awful books!

Ah - many thanks! I hadn't seen that there was a second control scheme. I'll give that one a shot then.

Re: Retro City Rampage
Hello - new here. Been haunting this site for a while. I found an interesting link w. some info on this game: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/32128/Retro_City_Rampage_To_Hit_Xbox_Live_Before_WiiWare.php
Assuming the source is credible, it seems it will be hitting Xbox live this summer, and then WiiWare sometime in the fall. Just thought I'd share.
