Review Retro City Rampage (WiiWare)
Rack up those combos, Player!
Retro City Rampage is a lot of things, but subtle isn't one of them. One of the first screens — with the title "Common Sense Warning!" — informs you that the game is packed with parodies, and it continues to bludgeon you over the head as you play. You may be a pixellated character given some freedom to romp around a...

Well, it looks nice
Retro City Rampage remains one of the most chaotic titles available on Nintendo systems, with the DX version performing well on the 3DS eShop and Vblank Studios' Brian Provinciano recently providing a sales update on the WiiWare version. It's still short of hitting the required sales threshold on the Wii that wil
News Vblank Entertainment Provides Sales Threshold Update for Retro City Rampage on WiiWare
"It hasn't made a cent in revenue yet"
Retro City Rampage was one of the last major releases to grace the WiiWare service, an anarchic top-down action title that brings to mind the original GTA titles and has enough '80s and '90s pop culture references to cause a nostalgia overload. It's arrived most recently in a definitive, heavily updated form on...
News 100 WiiWare Copies of Retro City Rampage Are Up for Grabs To Celebrate Anniversary
And yes, they can be played on a Wii U
Retro City Rampage is one year old, a landmark for Vblank Entertainment's labour of love that parodies and references a boggling amount of '80s and '90s pop culture. It's a full-on, in your face experience, which may explain why it has such a loyal fanbase. The title isn't done yet, of course, with a 3DS eShop...
"NOA and NOE, the people at both feel like family"
Brian Provinciano, the founder and main man of Vblank Entertainment, has had an interesting one-game history with Nintendo. The original form of the Retro City Rampage project was a technical challenge to push the boundaries of what was possible on the 8-bit NES. What became the full game was...
News Retro City Rampage Has Only Sold a Quarter of the WiiWare Sales Threshold
A return in investment looks a long way away
Just over a month ago Retro City Rampage arrived on the Wii Shop on the Wii and, of course, Wii U, bringing a wacky, irreverent tale cloaked in endless parodies and retro-GTA infused gameplay. As a last fling for the WiiWare service, it was in our opinion worth the wait. As explained to us in our

Interview Vblank Entertainment On Bringing a Retro Rampage to WiiWare
"It’s a twenty layer dip with something for everyone"
After a lengthy wait and a lingering suspicion that it would never come, Retro City Rampage has arrived on WiiWare, bringing its own blend of old-school game mechanics with a chaotic storytelling style. There are enough parodies and in-jokes to fill a dozen games, and it arrives on the service...
About The Game
A parody of the open-world action genre, Retro City Rampage takes modern game mechanics and mashes them into an authentic 8-bit experience.
It's one half fast paced arcade game, the other half a hilarious story mode!
It's all the driving and shooting you'd expect and a whole lot more! With missions that twist pages straight from classic game experiences, you get to re-live and rewrite history in a way only a modern anti-hero could!
When it comes to enemies, weapons are only the beginning! Put on your boots and jump on their heads! Toss 'em around to knock the rest down! Become truly unstoppable with awesome power-ups!
Through its world, characters and missions, Retro City Rampage lampoons the entire 8-bit era --from its games to the TV, movies and pop culture!

This game looks pretty cool. The music is awesome and it looks like it's stole levels and gameplay from Contra, TMNT (the first one) and Bionic Commando. This looks like a must download.
Wants!
I can't wait to put my hands on this game. It overflows awesomeness.
The developer is being quiet, and hasn't beeen saying anything for a while, something's up. One thing's for sure, I can't wait to play this on my Wii. The moment I saw this in nintendo power, I quickly jumped up and immediately put it on my wish list. I haven't been this excited for a game in a while. I can't wait.
this one is looking good.
This. Looks. Awesome.
You know this game is based on 8-bit gta. There actually was a game like that but its lost and canceled

First the xbox then the wii
This is vaporware!
no no my friends, this here is what we call a pipedream, a front, a lie for the most part. This dood is some sort of psychotic perfectionist, and will never ever be able to meet his own "standards"... its all bogus. Lol I give up on this game, lol but its funny how NL still has it as a game that isn't out yet....LOL! it's never going to come out, same thing with Night Sky by Nicalis....
It's all just pipedreams...
Sweet, heavenly pipedreams...
Well sorry, I live in objective reality, and I refuse to sit by and idly wait for something I fullheartedly know that isn't to be.
I mean I've heard of rushjobs, but this is a .... NOjob....
IE...it was never meant to be..
basically, the intent of this game ,was to scare competitors into never making the above mentioned canceled game. Why? Because Im sure this dood wrote a little bit of code for the game, but come on, lets be real, its like if you are not ready to release it, then do not give a date, do not give us false hope! It's sad, because it looked like a clever game, but I heard from the man himself! "I am not going through with the development of Retro City Rampage, due to insufficient funds and lack of time to write all of the strings of code for this original NES game, I apologize to the antcipated fans, but I can no longer afford to support making this game, possibly in the future when more monetary units become available, i will be able to make my way back into this venture,"
That is a direct quote btw. I knew it was too good to be true! Im surprised NL didn't get that info before me!
@wallyobass12: source, plz?
it's drawn from the world of knowledge that is a game that takes too long to release.
I'm playing that Vaporware right now for the preview and it seems pretty solid for vaporware.
Well the official website looks like it's still being updated and says coming in 2011 so it seems to be up and running. Hope it doesn't end up like Super Meat Boy.....
When is it coming out? I'm scared of them cancelling it.
Hello - new here. Been haunting this site for a while. I found an interesting link w. some info on this game: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/32128/Retro_City_Rampage_To_Hit_Xbox_Live_Before_WiiWare.php
Assuming the source is credible, it seems it will be hitting Xbox live this summer, and then WiiWare sometime in the fall. Just thought I'd share.
I read about this game in the July (2011) issue of GamePro! They interviewed the developer. Also, they showed all of the parodies in the game (If you watch the video above, you can see the character go down a warp pipe and collect money from brick blocks. Also, those bushes with the eyes in the Mario series are seen before the character goes in the pipe.)
Is this ever going to come out?!
I sure hope so, PoshSnivy. : /
When is this going to finally to come out? ITS KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!
I really want this!
@estoiagamer actually its XBOX then Vita then Wii.
I'm reminded of Back to the Future...
Just got it, it's AWESOME. Buy it. Now.
