@DEMON: I applaud you for stating that you won't be complaining every week until the game comes out. Not because we don't want to hear your opinion, but because it's becoming more and more common to just hear "Dang it where is XXXX?" every week instead of people talking about the games that are available or stating something positive for once.
The sad thing is that in your reply to neu you did exactly what you said you wouldn't. =P You may not be a child, but having an attitude of "I'm in the UK so I'm always gonna get screwed" is making you look like one, honestly. You guys got DKC well before the US, you guys STILL have Zelda 2 while we sit and wait patiently for it. And who exactly is screwing you? Is it Nintendo's fault that the rating process is taking longer for you guys, or that they're having issues getting the conversion perfect for your country?
Why can't people just relax and have some patience? The games will come in due time, and I encourage you to stick to your promise and please don't chime in every week complaining that this or that game hasn't been added to the ever-growing list of great titles.
"So I have a question, what's your answer to people like me?"
My answer is, don't download one of the games released this week. Play one of the 40 games you've downloaded and wait *one more week* to see if you get something that floats your boat.
Nobody was complaining that you didn't like the games up for offer. We're just tired of hearing constant whining because this one week you weren't catered to. Nintendo can't read minds, you know, and there will be weeks that you don't get exactly what you want.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I'm just tired of seeing people whine and whine every single week they don't get something that meets their high standards. Two weeks ago everyone was whining because they didn't have Star Fox. Then they got Star Fox, and just one week later everyone is back to whining again.
There are lots of great games being released, and just because you've never heard of them or played them doesn't mean they're not worth a look.
@neuzd: My bad. I was thinking the C64 was released in the 70's. I still stand by my statement about its sound capabilities, however. And while the NES might have had some better games, the C64 was certainly the most capable home computer system of the time for playing games. Comparing it to a console is a bit unfair, as I didn't see any good spreadsheet software on the NES. >_<
And while I'm fantasizing about things that'll never happen, I'd love to see them release a fully-featured C64 emulator so you could hook up a keyboard (the Wii has USB, ya know) and program away.
@yoshi: Wouldn't it be great if they allowed you to purchase GB/GBC/GBA games on the VC and download them to your DS for portable play? (Hey, I can dream can't I?)
I saw this news post and about wet my pants. Then I clicked it and saw the picture of one of the best games of all time and... well, I think I need a change of clothes.
@Cipher: Know you so much? C64 was a phenomenon when it was first announced, being hundreds of dollars cheaper than the competition and much more powerful at the same time. It had a huge library of software, some created by kids in their garage (many of today's software companies got their start this way) and had the best arcade conversions around. I remember playing Out Run and being unable to believe how close it was to the cab version. In particular, the C64 was able to create some of the best music and sound effects around thanks to having a sound chip that was so far ahead of its time. The IBM PC, which came years later, was only able to produce a single channel of generic beeps!
@neuzd: Um, you expected the C64 to challenge the NES in power, despite being released almost a decade earlier? Try comparing the NES to the Amiga and you'll be closer. Although IMO the C64 was capable of better sound than the "eons forward" NES.
And to whoever mentioned it (I'm too lazy to look), I doubt we'll need a keyboard. Most games on the C64 could be played with one or two single-button joysticks. Though it would be cool to see M.U.L.E. with its 4-player mode intact. (I'm sure the keyboard keys could still be reassigned to controllers though)
Even if all we get is the Epyx library I'll be happy. The Jumpman series, Impossible Mission... oh man, I can't wait.
What's with the updates now? I've played all the way through Donkey Kong Country at 480p with no flickering issues. Can someone clarify what problems they were (or are still) experiencing?
@BadSp00n: You're whining this much about having to wait more than one WEEK for Star Fox? Over here in the US we had to wait 3 MONTHS after EU got Donkey Kong Country before we we able to enjoy it as well. One week is nothing. Learn some patience. =P
@RMA: If only I had your willpower and mental fortitude! I try very, very hard to buy one game and then beat it before buying the next, but every Monday I can't help but login to this site to see what new stuff Nintendo has graced us with, and when something I love (like Excitebike) or a game that I haven't yet played but that everyone says is fantastic (like Beyond Oasis) comes out, I can't stop myself! So now I have two more games on my Wii that will probably not be played enough to justify the cost. D'oh! >_<
In all honestly, I'm kind of thankful for slow release weeks like this one. ^_^
"Such is the case with Ocarina of Time, the traditional moon and star of the gerudo was replaced by a rather lame substitute, likely due to religious complications Nintendo wishes to avoid."
That change actually happened in the GameCube re-releases (OOT/Master Quest & Collector's Edition discs) and is not new. Also, the symbol they changed it to is the one used by the pirates in Majora's Mask, so at least it still makes sense. The change I'm really upset about is the Fire Temple theme, which they changed in the "Player's Choice" release on the N64 due to Muslim complaints that the chanting sounded too much like an Arabic prayer. That song was one of the best things about the game, in my opinion, and the replacement is very dull and boring. Oh well.
As for the slow release week, who cares? Honestly, go play something else while you wait to see what they have for us next week. Life goes on.
@RMA: "Never played this and a pal of mine (like I really have any friends...) has been telling me that this is one to start with, not the NES Zeldas (too easy apparently)."
What?! Zelda's 2nd quest is at least as hard as LttP, and Adventure of Link is more difficult than any other Zelda game to date, with the possible exception of Majora's Mask.
"Only one other title is available today, and it's the gothic classic Castlevania on the NES. This is another fine game but I can't help but feel it will get forgotten as everyone rushes to download Zelda!"
OK, how ironic is it that when you guys thought this was the only game you were getting, everyone whined about it, and now that we find out Castlevania is also available, the attitude of the review is like "Oh gee, they shouldn't have done that."
And that would be why they don't normally release two great games side-by-side...
@RMA - That's because Nintendo does not give out release dates in advance. In fact they haven't even announced that those games ARE going to be released. Most of the time what happens is that the games get submitted for review to a ratings agency (such as the ESRB). The only reason for an old game to be rated now would be if the company holding the copyright plans to rerelease it, and that typically means a release on the VC. Check the Source column on the coming soon page to see where they're getting the information that the game is going to be released. You'll see that most of them are because the game has been submitted for a rating.
Actually this is something that MicroSoft could very well hold back intentionally. Since they might not make any profit from some of these games on XBox, they have nothing to gain by reaching an agreement to let Nintendo release them to the VC. If MicroSoft determines that the older XBox market wouldn't be interested in Banjo-Kazooie, DK64, etc, then they stand to gain little by putting them on XBLA, whereas Nintendo would be releasing games that would be heavily downloaded by Wii owners, many of whom are long-time Nintendo fans. It could be a case of a "If we can't have it, you can't have it either" kind of attitude on MS's part.
I think things bode much better for Goldeneye. This game was immensely popular with gamers of all ages and would appeal much more to the "older" XBox market.

Oh wow, Actraiser! I loved that game so much and can't wait to download it again.
VERY jealous right now and hoping it'll come to the US soon. ^_^

They release Star Fox 64, one of the greatest games on the N64, and people are whining a week later because of a mediocre release week.
Get a life, people.

To all you UK'ers out there: We're holding LttP for ransom until you give us Excitebike and Adventure of Link.
