@LunchLoser I’ll have to try again if invites have started working properly. At least having to repeat levels over for everyone’s progression let’s everyone get a couple more artifacts. I personally don’t mind to much managing the chalice, since I play a Yuke from the back anyway. I kind of enjoy the challenge of juggling chalice management, team healing and range damage. I can totally agree with the attack combo rhythm being totally slow and out of whack, and the defend not being on a dedicated button makes it virtually useless. I think the only time I’ve ever used defend is to aggro an enemy, and have it stand still while attacking me to let the others cast holy/gravity.
@LunchLoser so let us all know how it is playing with your friends with only one person at a time is getting any story progression. And if you are referring to the invite feature to invite friends to your group, that never worked for me. The invites never showed up, and had to send codes every time. I’m glad that it worked well for you, though.
@Daniel36 I bought the game, knowing that local co-op wasn’t an option. I decided to try to recreate the local experience my wife and I had way back by getting a copy for PS4 and for Switch. I was floored to learn the the online doesn’t allow for caravans to play together and that it was exclusively one-off levels. And then, as if that wasn’t bad enough, there’s the archaic method of sending rotating invite codes to everyone to party up again after every. single. level. I’m almost not even mad, it’s quite impressive how bad they managed to make it.
@Daniel36 just off the dome: what if each player just got points for damage dealt, enemies killed, allies cured/raised, treasure looted, and time touching the chalice? No secret mission system required. Just play the game.
@sanderev I mean I understand why that function was there. I was just disappointed that I was finally (like 70% of the way through the game) enjoying one of the puzzles in this “puzzle based” game, then the game crapped all over my having a good time.
That seems like an appropriate metaphor for the entire game actually. It’s really not bad, and I want to have fun with it, but as soon as I start to the devs slap on some more silly bs to make sure it doesn’t happen.
@carlos82 I agree totally! The world was beautiful and was fun to explore. My only other real complaint outside of the battles is that the velumental dungeons were kind of all the same and not very interesting. The ice one was better with the inclusion of the sliding block puzzles, but after resetting the blocks like three times it SHOWS YOU THE ANSWER! I mean what even is the point of the puzzle?
@mariomaster96 the grinding issue is fixed by having the story enemies progress at the same rate as the xp you gain from completing the story. Additional content, extra dungeons, optional bosses can be much more difficult for those who want to grind. I, personally don’t mind grinding given that the progression isn’t forced to a crawling pace, and that the battle system isn’t convoluted. Octopath felt that way for me; while the break system was interesting and challenging for boss fights, it became tedious and longwinded when grinding encounter after encounter.
I definitely enjoyed Origami King. After being annoyed at first about there being no xp or really any incentive to battle (other than like twice when I needed more confetti) but eventually I was satisfied with the sense of progression the game offered. But, holy Hell, those battles were tedious. I was done with the ring battle system before the first boss. The boss battles were interesting and fun and just challenging enough, but every other encounter I felt inclined to spam coins (of which there were plenty) just to get it over with. I played the entire game trying to avoid every encounter that I possibly could. It’s difficult to imagine the developers not foreseeing how quickly that battle system would go stale. At least it did for me, I’m sure some people loved it.
@sanderev my point is that even with the lite version, an online subscription is required to play together. Unless, of course, you count playing on a smartphone. I do not count playing on a smartphone as a valid or even remotely enjoyable way to try to play a game like this.
There are plenty of games that manage multiple player UI’s on the same screen. I do not buy that excuse. Doing it this way is a cash grab to sell more software copies/online subscriptions. Square is either unaware that they are completely missing the point of this game’s multiplayer, or they are raping it on purpose.
@Hoho I agree that rereleasing old games is less than ideal, but is definitely not the same on the Switch than with any other console. Releasing old games on a standard home console can definitely be subpar, but the ability to play classics anywhere on the Switch is what makes ports so desirable and necessary.

Re: Splatoon 3 Connection Issues? Looks Like An Update Is On Its Way
@TYRANACLES This game desperately needs a splitscreen mode imo. A co-op story mode would be a most welcome addition.

This game seems like it would be more fun as an RPG than a battle royale. But that’s just my opinion.

@Einherjar yeah but there’s like $40 worth of dlc, which is a lot of the “new” features that were touted pre-release.

@LeonBelmontX Chozo, rouge space pirates, cyborgs, or possibly (get this) METROIDS. I think a Metroid rpg could be incredible.

They want to create surprising experiences? At this point, a game with the “same” rpg battle system WOULD be a surprising experience.

Que the perfect time for a Metroid Prime Trilogy port in the mean time? I think yes.
