I understand the logic because of MK8D playable on Switch 2, but to think there suddenly WON'T be Retro Courses when those have been a staple for around two decades now is kinda silly.
I would put money down that this app will factor into the tracklist curation for the next Smash Bros now that Nintendo can look at what songs people play and extend the most and prioritize adding/keeping in Smash.
@Kazman2007 I'm glad someone else brought this up, which is really the biggest win for that game not having to compete with the game series it is marketing as a spiritual successor to.
Feels weird this entire article seemingly went out of its way to NOT mention Black 2/White 2. I don't know why but it feels a conscious choice. Do those count as sequels more than a third game I guess?
This sounds like a game where if you're into taking physical notes on your own (like for symbols or mapping out rooms), it will be a great time. But that might be too much of an investment for everyone. It feels very niche but cool so I hope it finds the right audience.
Not growing up with Sony consoles and only getting the SNES very late in its life cycle, Crystal Chronicles was my first experience and boy was it not like the rest, lol.
I am cautiously optimistic having skipped Gen 8 and only recently having played Arceus. It looks like it's vastly improved from Sword & Shield so I'm hoping the momentum keeps going and no massive red flags pop up.
It seems so weird to split the difference in a way that many people won't like. If they wanted to truly replicate the old games, then single use TMs and no EXP Share makes sense. If they want to replicate the current style, then EXP Share (and on/off option) and multi-use TMs makes sense. But doing both seems to please neither and is purposefully unfriendly. What a weird decision.
I guess it's showing my age that no one has mentioned the power up mechanic is similar to Diddy Kong Racing which is something Mario Kart doesn't do. So I look at it as more something for that DKR itch and maybe jumpstarting some MK9 momentum than attempting to supplant MK8D.
Now that all the friends I played the Wii U version with locally are spread out, the online option is pretty much why I'm double dipping. Bowser's Fury is a nice touch but I wouldn't say it's a must play addition.
I put Travis as my pick for Fighter 11 since as a huge video game nerd, it seems a nice cap to the huge video game love letter that is Smash, plus similar situation to Bayonetta in terms of tone of game + Nintendo exclusive sequel. Would be cool to see it actually happen.
