@Lumnethia This just isn't true. Despite a few loud voices on gaming enthusiast sites like this, no one cares about Key cards. I doubt most people even know what that is. They just put the cart in and play like anyone else does.
Making Elden ring a game on cart would make virtually no difference to sales. It isn't out performing new games like Onimusha because everyone who is into Souls games played it 4 years ago. I am actually surprised it charted so high week one. Probably a mixture of a few thousand people on switch who have never played it before and people like me who love it and wanted a handheld version.
It has already sold 30 million plus copies, it was never going to sit on top of charts for weeks, again
@-wc- I think the difference is that the "pretty Grass People" aren't in the comment section of every article ever saying they wont buy the game if it doesn't have pretty Grass... hence the term "Whining".
I am always in awe of the narcissistic mind set of people who log on to a web site and announce to the world that they wont be playing something....
@Scirocco7 It ran at 30fps on ps4 as well ( Which Switch 2 is on parity with power wise ). I don't get the outrage a lot of you throw out to be honest. Why do you expect a £400 handheld to be able to output performance similar to an £800 home console?
Its just silly. Its like raging because your Nissan Micra cant keep up with an new BMW M3.... its just not gonna happen.
I personally am amazed that Elden ring can be played on a handheld at all! I remember the kind of ports we got for the original Gameboy in the 90s... Shudder.
If the tech guys at From software could have got this running at a smooth 60, they would have... or do you think they have kept it at 30 just to annoy you?
@Ooccoo_Jr The whole point of the game is that you are not supposed to be guided. There is no set order to do any of the legacy dungeons. The point is to explore and see what you can do.
By Mythical, I didn't mean that it was a mythical feat for someone to be able to do it. I meant that it is an almost mythical feeling taking on From software games blind on launch day when all the mysteries are still there to be discovered and not spoiled online. You have weeks of people people uploading videos with titles like " holy *****, look at this sword I found " etc.
It is this kind of thing that creates conversations about GOAT games, people have endless stories of failures and triumphs, builds that work and some that don't. Finishing the whole game with a castlevania themed character in only leather gear and a whip etc..... No amount of funnelling characters into a set order would create that kind of experience.
You argument is the exact same one that the Devs from companies like Ubisoft were making when this launched to universal praise.
Granted, i am heavily biased as this is my favourite series of all time, and all things are subjective.... but i feel like most other games are souless after something like this. I really tried with both AC: Shadows and Borderlands 4 for example... they just seem like lists of stuff to do with predetermined cutscenes
No games is perfect. The performance isn't the best, and locking players in a single weapon per run due to build and stat leveling can be a turn off for some who want to play with every new toy they find.
but for me, it is a toss up between This and Dark souls one for the GOAT. Really respect your opinion though fella...
@Ooccoo_Jr Not true at all. I got the game on launch day for ps5 and finished the whole thing without once looking at a guide. The almost mythical "blind first run" is a legendary feeling for most souls players.
Sure, once you finish it then look up guides on the net, you will find whole areas of the game you never knew existed which gives you a reason to play again...but telling people that its "impossible to play without out a guide" is just not true.
Don't let comments like this put you off. This is one of the greatest games ever made and you will be absolutely fine if you have a base level of intelligence and sense of wonder/discovery.
Really jealous of people about to play this again for the first time. Getting the platinum for this is probably my best gaming memory
@IronMan30 Just my opinion of course, but I think this is leagues above breath of the wild. In terms of art design, creature and world design, character building and replay value, this is just in another stratosphere. Breath of the wild was great, but there are hundreds of images that have been seared into my brain from Elden ring that I still think about daily.
And the soundtrack! My god... look up Rellana: twin moon knight, Radagon, Lichdragon Fortisax or Starscourge Redahn on youtube.
Comparing Breath of the wild to Elden ring is like comparing "How to train your dragon " to "Game of thrones"... both cool stories with dragons in, but very different tones and levels of complexity
@sonofskywalker3 Dude, just make a new account. I'm in the same boat as you, played on Playstation during a realm reborn and fell off. Took me less than 2 minutes to make a new account and now I am playing the whole thing for free ( hundreds of hours of rpg for free )... saying that Square is giving you the shaft is a little strong, when you could play for free in exchange for 2 mins of your time.
I really think a lot of people on this site are addicted to moaning
@DiamondJim It will 100% be online only. The whole game is built around it, world bosses, legion events etc all revolve around meeting up with 40-50 other players to take down large challenges. An offline edition would have to be a completely reworked game.
Plus, as Blizzards whole monetization model for Diablo 4 is to charge you £15 plus for skins and battle passes to show off your character to other people, there is 0% chance that this is going to have an offline mode. It just isn't that kind of game.
You guys are crazy! new final fantasy, all the xenoblade games plus a new one, Metaphor, Dragons dogma 2, devil may cry 5, Duskbloods, Starfox, Onimusha and a remake of one of the greatest games of all time.
There were loads of others as well. If there is nothing in this direct that looked good to you then I think you are focusing on the wrong hobby.
I'm a PS5 player mainly and played a lot of these already but having them on a handheld? Little me playing on my Nes at the end of the 80's would never have believed how far we have come....so awesome games revealed over the last week. I am very excited!
@BaldB3lper78 Elden Ring has around 10-12% Platinum Trophy rate on Playstation. It really isn't that hard. The accessibility features you mentioned are here. You can summon NPC characters, other real players, spirit summons etc to help kill bosses. You can explore other areas, find and upgrade gear, level up etc. I really don't think these games are that difficult.
However, if you mean " there is no switch you can flick in the options menu to make all enemies have 25% health or do reduced damage ", then you are correct. You are missing the point of the game though.
These are designed to be like games like Castlevania or Megaman where every enemy and boss has a pattern for you to learn. That is "THE GAME".... if you don't want to learn how to attack, dodge and counter attack but have the boss die on the first try then I don't really know what to say.
Not everything should be for everybody. I don't really like MMO games anymore because I have a job and kids so I cant keep up with them... but that doesn't mean Square Enix should add a streamline easy mode for people like me. It just isn't what the game is designed to be.
My point is, if you have been thinking about giving this a go, don't listen to everyone telling you that its too hard. You are not going to beat every boss on the first try like you would in something like God of war or Zelda, but I always found it really dumb when they hype up how powerful Ganon is for 80 hours then you beat him in five mins.
The bosses in Elden ring are as hard as an ancient legendary dragon or mythical Knight should be. It makes it all the more memorable when you beat them.
There is no reason 90% of people reading this could not beat Elden ring. I really believe that. You just cant play it the same way you would Horizon, God of war or Skyrim.
I can't put my finger on why, but I didn't like Rebirth as much as Remake. FF7 is one of my favourite games and defined my childhood. Remake was incredible for me but something about this one... maybe it lost the focus of the Midgar section and its expansion of side characters, maybe there is just too much Ubisoft style busy work ( towers, finding the summon, chocobo puzzles etc ) in every single section... i just got a little burned out. I did go back and finish it and its still an incredible game... I just hope part 3 is a little more focused.
Take my opinion with a pinch of salt though. This is coming from a guy who moans about focus but has spent 400 + hours on diablo 4 for reasons I can't explain. I have been playing 12 on switch one as that was the only one I never finished. Have been really enjoying that
Still my favourite game of all time. Nothing comes close in terms of art direction, animation and boss designs. Cant wait to be able to do it all again on handheld!
@Vyacheslav333 No it cant. The original switch only had a 720p Screen. Switch 2 has a 1080p screen. That is why tricking it into thinking it is displaying through a dock to a TV makes this so clever. Instant upgrade to your whole library
@MirrorFate2 I disagree... I think the story is great. It isn't intended to be something like the last of us. It is supposed to be the kind of stupid, 80's B movie nonsense that is designed to be fun. Wesker and his Matrix antics, the Bakers and their hill billy quotes, The Vampire/Werewolf/Fishman nonsense of village.... Its all awesome in its ability to not take itself seriously at all.
I think we need more 6" 2 guys punching boulders and 8 foot vampire ladies calling us "Stupid Man Thing" in our games! Not less!
Everyone is welcome to there opinion.. but who on earth is voting 1/10 for these games? If you don't like them fine, but these are very well crafted, technical showcases. How sad do you have to be to login and vote like this on something you hate? I seriously hope this is an 8 year old and not a full grown adult
@Zoda_Fett I agree with a lot of what you said. I was really looking forward to this as my entry for the Trials series as people have been talking about it for years... however, I fell off it after about 20 hours in favour of Final Fantasy tactics ( which I have now finished and moved on to Yakuza Zero ) simply because "NOTHING HAPPENS!".
I really appreciate the slow approach and world building but I got to around 20 hours and still had no clue about the main story, who the main villain is, Johsua's past... nothing. I've been to 3 or 4 towns, helped out the locals looking for pets, finding out which staff member in a factory has been smoking etc, which is all fine... But by this time point in the game, there should have been some an inciting incident of some description! I have had one pretty cool scene ( Very Minor spoilers! ) where Agate has a duel with a guy who is seemingly his match, but other than that, it has mainly been about arranging school plays and listening to girls talk about how handsome Joshua is.
I really do want to go back to this as I am sure the game picks up, but I do want to warn people that this is an EXTREMELY slow start, so you need to be in it for the long haul. Also be prepared to listen to more cutscenes than actually playing for long periods.

Also, you can re-subscribe to things that you cancelled if you want too. Crazy news I know.
This just seems like a long winded way for you to say that you aren't interested, which begs the question..... Why are you here and commenting?
