Re: Sega's Gamescom 2024 Line Up Includes 'Global Premier' Of Unannounced Project

@fabiop Well the only one positive thing is: they trying, unlike Capcom and other japanese companies. They just don't have good, experienced developers and budget. I think all their best developers are now in RGG Studio (CS1), while Team Sonic (CS2) and PSO2 Team (CS3) is filled by newbies or less experienced programmers. This is the only explanation why the rest of their teams suck (except Valkyria Chronicles team).

@fabiop It's not just about Monkey Ball:

  • Sakura Wars 2019 was a mere shadow of excellent Sakura Wars 1-4 on Saturn / Dreamcast. This game only pissed of japanese fanbase. Without Ouji Hiroi and Red Company is not the same.
  • Shenmue 3 - disappointment
  • Panzer Dragoon Remake and The House of The Dead Remake are mediocre at best
  • Shining Resonanse was a abomination of Shining series
  • Valkyria Revolution was just bad game
  • Samba De Amigo: Party Central without Samba De Janeiro, DLC festival, underwhelming list of songs
  • Sonic is compilation of mediocre games with few exceptions, cashgrab franchise
  • Resonanse of Fate - had amazing battle system, but rest of the game is not that good.
  • Bayonetta - is now Nintendo franchise
  • Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis - dogshit

The only one very good games from Sega Japan were Valkyria Chronicles, but those games unfortunately sold very bad outside of Japan (except Steam port of VC1). There is also amazing Streets of Rage 4, but Sega had no connection with this game other than renting the license. Sega have also two great licensed franchises (Hatsune Miku, and Puyo Puyo). Wow Sega, you developed only 1 excellent game series (which is sadly dead) outside of RGG and Atlus since 20 years ...

@fabiop Well if current Sega have only 1600 developers: 900 developers behind PSO2 and mobile games, 400 developers from Team Sonic, 300 developers from RGG Studio, and from those 700 developers probably 500 people milking only Sonic & Yakuza, no wonder their most of games looking like very low budget PS2/PS3 titles. You can't make good AAA or even AA game with only 50 people in dev team. With those numbers of people you can only develop low budget 7/10 AA games or remasters / remakes, and pray to God it will be not flop. For comparation: Sega before fusion with Sammy had 5000 developers, and most of them were hired in AM R&D's, which modern Sega lacking. The problem is people still think Sega is AAA publisher / developer like in 90's, which is not true. They still don't developed a single game with 50M $ budget, which is by today standards minimum for AA game, not to mention AAA games with 100M $+ budget.

@ktej75 Non Sonic / Yakuza / Persona games from Sega in last 5-6 years:

From 3rd party studio:

  • Shining Resonanse Refrain
  • Streets of Rage 4
  • Alex The Kidd: In Miracle World DX
  • Panzer Dragoon Remake
  • The House of The Dead Remake

From Sega CS1 (RGG Studio):

  • Fist of The North Star: Lost Paradise
  • Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Shodown (coop-developed with AM2)
  • Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania
  • Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble

From Sega CS2 (Team Sonic):

  • Puyo Puyo Tetris 2
  • Sakura Wars 2019 (coop-developed with RGG Studio)
  • Samba De Amigo: Party Central

From Sega CS3:

  • Valkyria Chronicles 4 (coop-developed with Media.vision)
  • Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis
  • Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix

From Atlus:

  • Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster (outsourced)
  • Shin Megami Tensei V / Vengeance
  • Soul Hackers 2
  • Etrian Odyssey 1-3 HD Collection
  • 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (from Vanilaware)
  • Unicorn Overlord (from Vanilaware)

Most of games from the list were good. Stop crying that Sega doesn't make games other than Sonic / Yakuza / Persona, and maybe buy them.

Re: Sega Reports 'Sluggish' Sales Of Sonic Superstars And Other Major Titles

Sejman22

This is not first time when Sega put own games in terrible release date, they still tend to sabotage own games for unknown reasons, recent examples:

  • Sonic Superstars was released in same week with Super Mario Bross Wonder and Spiderman 2
  • Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Reload were released too close to each other, with Granblue Fantasy Relink which have negative impact into sales of those two games on Steam
  • Sakura Wars 2019 as a PS4 ekslusive was released in same week with Final Fantasy VII Remake (PS4), and in the same month with Persona 5 Royal (PS4), Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, Trials of Mana Remake and more.
  • Valkyria Chronicles 4 was released in same week with Octopath Octopath Traveler and Dragon Quest XI

Sega should definitely fire guy responsive for bad release dates.

Re: Three More Sega Classics Are Being Revived, It's Claimed

Sejman22

@Samalik
Disgaea Infinte was released in West, because Sony loosened the censorship of this type of games a bit after 2008 (after the success of Ace Attorney on DS and Wii), because the PS2 and PSP were practically dead in the West and they didn't cared anymore, just like later they did with PS Vita. Thats's why So Long My Love was allowed to be released on PS2 after 2008 (NISA announced localization of SW5 in 2008, game was released in West in 2010, like Disgaea Infinite), but Sakura Wars 1+2 on PSP in 2006 not. Before 2008, almost all Playstation Visual Novel games never left Japan, especially Dating Sims. Nintendo was much more open with publishing VN games in West than Playstation (well still is).

Re: Three More Sega Classics Are Being Revived, It's Claimed

Sejman22

@Samalik When NISA tryed localize Sakura Wars 1+2 on PSP, Sony told them: ,,this is not real game, this is text game''. Sega also planned localize Dreamcast versions of Sakura Wars 1+2 (by Working Design, dudes who localized Magic Knight Rayearth on Sega Saturn in NA), and later PS2 remake of first game, but ,,Sakura Wars World Project'' was cancelled probably due to poor financial situation of Sega at that time.

Re: Three More Sega Classics Are Being Revived, It's Claimed

Sejman22

@WiiWareWave Sakura Wars is not jrpg, it's Visual Novel , Dating Sim, tactical SRPG hybrid, but more fiting name for those kind of games is ,,interactive anime''. It's similar to Valkyria Chronicles (older Sakura Wars games were developed by same dev team), but VC is more focused on gameplay and have traditional RPG elements like leveling up, buying new equipment, customization, grind etc. Sakura Wars is more focused on VN and Dating Sim stuff, gameplay is pretty simple and is small part of those games. The battle system from VC (BLiTZ) is improved version of ARMS from Sakura Wars 3-5.
