Re: Nintendo Should Follow In Marvel's Footsteps And Produce Its Own Hollywood Movies, Say Producers

Ridley

I don't think Nintendo should join the scramble since 2012 to make another Avengers by any means but it would be nice if the company got behind putting out good video game adaptations.

It's been so long since the likes of the Mario movie or the Zelda cartoon that those series have since produced lot more material to draw from. Sure, there'd be a tedious debate if a live-action Zelda got made about Link's voice but if a good product came out of it that'd die down.

I've no doubt cinema will one day get a movie that shows gaming IPs can make money but whether that will by any time soon or not is the question. Ideally Ubisoft will get the ball rolling with Assassin's Creed. If I'm remembering correctly, Netflix made Marco Polo cause people kept searching Game of Thrones so they made what was supposed to be a similar show. Get the Suikoden licence from Konami hint hint.

On the other hand, considering how much gameplay is a factor in Nintendo's stories, what are Mario, Link, Pikmin, Kirby and so on when you remove the player interaction? And with games being generally still somewhat lacking in the writing department, how do you make movies of Starfox or Metroid that aren't just Star Wars and Aliens by other names? Not much Nintendo stuff is driven by character.

Still, I think it's worth a go. If they failed, the games aren't going anywhere and I'd rather see Nintendo make the attempt to generate money there than allow another Mercedes into Mario Kart or something.

@Ezekiel You fall down very quickly if you try to be literal with the graphics and gameplay. As a fictional ghost-possessed sword, for all we know its cutting ability is as effective as you standing in a crucifix position trying to stab a gazelle with knives on your soles.

Re: Sega Adds Disclaimer to Aliens: Colonial Marines Trailers

Ridley

I'm disappointed that self-proclaimed fans of the film watched Aliens and thought it would be better without this Ripley character.

If it wasn't for all the deception, the game would just be dismissed as another subpar movie tie-in. Would be nice if the Wii U edition turned out to have taken major steps toward producing the hyped version but I think it's more likely that Sega will cut its losses and Gearbox has Borderlands to fall back on.

Re: Ubisoft: Players Will Let Us Know When They've Had Enough Assassin's Creed

Ridley

"Are you looking forward to the next game in the series, or are you a bit fatigued?"

Neither, really. I enjoy the games but after following Desmond's story arc through five titles only for it to end on a cutscene and an AC4 advert was... disappointing.

From what I've seen thus far, Black Flag feels like a spin-off. Hope I'm wrong and the game justifies the IV beyond switching Kenways. For now, however, Black Flag seems to be an expansion of the ship sequences and that Mayan Temple DLC when I think each numbered installment should see a significant shift in the AC experience. For better or worse, III doesn't play like II. I doubt that will be the case with IV to III.
