Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

I don't really want to give too much away. All that I can state is that I'm a good 10 minute drive from Blackburn, but this is starting to get a little too personal to go further o_o*

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

You are right in saying it was a misinterpretation of the quote. I'm just one of those people that get agitated at the use of fan service in gaming, that's all. o.O

I merely said that I "wanted to be informed", not continuously screaming for anything in particular like 93% of the site (lol, overexaggeration, but you get the idea). I already get that by visiting this place often enough for my VC quick-fix, and if there's something that catches my eye through the weekly (bi-weekly now?) releases, then there we go.

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

And what's so funny about taking interest in something different, or a game that you haven't played in a while? I play games to have fun, not to become a fanboy over one or two sectors in particular.

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

we did get Mario 3 (Nes) when Mario Galaxy came out

No we didn't. Records showed that we received Mario Galaxy a week AFTER the VC release of Mario 3 (with Australia actually receiving it 3 weeks later). Think of the hassle it would have caused if both were released in the same week - if I was in that boat, I would have equally been torn.

Concerning the state of the release schedule, I just want to be informed of what comes around. Ideally I'd like to look into Earthbound, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Majora's Mask, Phantasy Star 4, Bio Miracle and the like but I won't be disappointed if they don't come right away - I'm prepared for the unexpected, plus my main dream isn't to embrace the arrival of a VC title but rather the day when I finally get a job.

And "XD" is what I see as a smiley representation for a jokey laugh. Someone else might provide better input on what it actually is though ^^;

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

On a mathematical standpoint I wouldn't call it "half as much", but somehow it could at least cause less stock shortages for once XD

But anyway, even though I wouldn't get it, I wouldn't mind finally seeing SMRPG out just so I can finally get away from the constant waves of fanboys screaming for it week after week (read the few posts above). Yet, as proven, it will be illtimed if it clashes with another big Wii release of sorts. Somehow, the Nintendo branches of Europe and Australia are sounding more fickle with how they do stuff around here

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

That's the thing though - "Hype". If Nintendo are REALLY wanting to build it up, then they could at least have a date set in stone so that we can get it all over with. I'm sick of going through all the unusual releases week after week and see people leave Nintendo completely, just because their so-called "godly video game" didn't arrive on the VC when they wanted it the most. This mainly applies for people crying out for this AND Earthbound, and as much as I would love to play the latter, I still hate to see people being so arrogant about the state of VC releases.

In an ideal world, beggars can't be choosers. So it's by no surprise that Nintendo could do the same - people won't shut up about one game, so they might not offer it at all. This may be me being a pessimistic kind of person, but they have to learn that they don't always get what they want, and continuously crying about it is not going to help either. They just need to learn to be a bit more humble concerning the state of affairs.

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

I know what you're saying, but the problem is that people are so impatient around here, and it's driving me up the wall week after week. If it doesn't happen tonight, then I'd be so proud to be among the first people to say "I told you so"

Re: US VC Releases - 23rd June - Alex Kidd in Miracle World

Rexy

Even so, remember like I said earlier - licencing issues would mean that not every game would ever see the light of day. I'm with you though - I want to play Conker's Bad Fur Day but I know that due to Rare's departure that's never going to happen. I know we've had their Donkey Kong titles though, but it's the only series Nintendo still has the rights to >.>

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

Whether it comes or not, I won't sulk because I have Brawl - true, that WILL of course be the better game
And to everyone that wants it to come tomorrow, be prepared to be disappointed - you guys are expecting things to happen way too quickly, and like I said, it'll be a bad business strategy if they release a highly anticipated Wii title and a highly anticipated VC title at the same time.

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

You can have garbage like Dig Dug

Dig Dug is NOT garbage. Sure, it's no epic by any means but just a simple arcade game that should work for periodic breaks in real life. And as the person states above, like most games of the era, it can be more fun playing with a friend

But let's save the Dig Dug mentioning for its own game thread, thank you.

Re: US VC Releases - 23rd June - Alex Kidd in Miracle World

Rexy

I admit I give into playing ROMs. But then how else am I going to play Seiken Densetsu 3 in english?

You have a point when it's material that would be unlikely to see the light of day in our home territories - I similarly had to suffer through ROM/Emulating just to see what Live A Live was like. ^^; But legal issues aside, I still feel more comfortable doing everything with a joypad rather than with a keyboard and any unpredictable nuances the software could provide.

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

@Rapidash: Variety can be an issue, but we have to take it on board. As far as I'm concerned, Sony and Microsoft seem to be doing worse with what they're offering through their online services so we have to be lucky we are offered something like this to begin with.

I don't want a repeat of the 200-post bickerfest last week concerning Mario RPG, but I do agree that Dracula X would do some good and we could go even better if PC Engine support is added and we'd see the true version of the game, translated or not. But as usual, Nintendo won't listen to us, because we're geeks and otaku

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

What i said came out wrong. i meant that we might not have to wait until another Hanabi festival for Super Mario RPG as i heard rumours that it will be out on Friday.

I see what you're saying with all this, but it all depends on the source of the rumor to begin with. If it was a rabid fanboy spreading gossip on Wikipedia, then no, it shouldn't be taken seriously (anyone can make false facts on there these days). I could still trust it if it came from a valid news source of some description.

But like you, yes, I will have Brawl to keep myself occupied. What's even more fruity is that I've never played a Smash Bros game before, so I hope it all goes down well

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

While SPM is indeed a pale experience, it's actually a decent choice if you want to get someone into videogames. And it worked wonders for most of my kid cousins, apparently. Mario 64 might be the better game out of the two, I wholesomely agree, but it's not to be considered a starter in this day and age in the event that someone may misunderstand the graphics power involved.

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

I'm not saying Super Paper Mario was bad - it came bundled with my Wii after all. But like you said, it was way too different in comparison to the other titles in the series to be worth a placement into a Mario RPG comparison debate.

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

A short RPG? Sounds impossible...

Then you haven't played Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, then. 15 hours on a first run through is embarassingly short.
And concerning Mario RPGs, things actually started to improve over time (if Super Paper Mario is taken out of the equation). If you liked Paper Mario, then consider this to be a more primitive concept, so to speak. If you're on for buying it, make sure you don't expect it to be the best game ever.

@Terranigma: What made you think that the next Hanabi Festival would clash with Brawl? Like I said in a prior thread, Nintendo CAN'T throw all their eggs into one basket - it's not a good business strategy, plus how the Hell are we supposed to juggle about 3-6 games at once?

Re: US VC Releases - 23rd June - Alex Kidd in Miracle World

Rexy

To chip in on this, what I consider a "good week" is there being something that captures my interest (easy for me to say since the only VC console that I actually have a physical model of is the Genesis). Something that I've already played and enjoyed is a bonus IMO - only the rabid screamers (particularly for a lot of popular SNES games not released here yet) wouldn't dare to think outside the box.

@fordianslip: I understand your reasoning for wanting VC copies of every single game that you once owned, and since gaming systems don't hold the test of time as much as other media formats (particularly on the audio and video sides), I agree that it's hard to keep your childhood keepsakes alive. I'm in a similar boat with some of the games I owned as well, yet I doubt that Ranger X, Toy Story or even The Lion King would see the light of day on the Genesis side (again, reasons relating to licensing for 92% of the time). We just have to be greatful enough that we are given the chance to enjoy old-school gaming without the illegal evils that are ROMs and emulators

Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today

Rexy

Dude, I want Phantasy Star 4 so bad. I'm sure it won't be too long since the close releases for 2 and 3 a few months back.

"The last hanbi festival was rubbish not one good title!"

Ok, tell me what was wrong with Puyo Puyo 2 - other than the fact that you would prefer to play it as Kirby's Avalanche or something.

Re: US VC Releases - 23rd June - Alex Kidd in Miracle World

Rexy

You made it sound as if you'd scowl at the situation of Earthbound being a sole release for a future week and feel more content with five below-average titles crossing platforms from anything other than the SNES. Two games isn't bad though - just remember that quantity doesn't necessarily deter that they would all be quality titles.

Re: US VC Releases - 23rd June - Alex Kidd in Miracle World

Rexy

@Bass: Even so, they'd still be screaming for either Earthbound, the entire Square SNES back catalog, possibly Mario All-Stars, and (as shown near the top of the thread) any popular game released on the SNES. I don't know if this is my SEGA kid mannerisms getting to me, but this is something that people need to grasp - if they get the green light, then they'll arrive when the time comes, and moping about it would only make it sound like the whole thing would take longer.

And everyone else, shut up and enjoy Alex Kidd

Re: Secret of Evermore - Brian Fehdrau Interview

Rexy

FF7 wouldn't appear on the DS anyway, because since then, FF titles were all for Sony systems. I don't think any of the Compilation of FF7 games (save for the phone-based Before Crisis) were even shown on other consoles outside their native Sony platforms to begin with, probably due to licencing.

Still, it can be true that Square won't put up titles they plan to remake, but they can't leave some of their more obscure titles to bite the dust, can they?

Re: Secret of Evermore - Brian Fehdrau Interview

Rexy

I've never played Evermore - been reluctant after experiencing Secret of Mana, knowing a little too much about the history of the game's existance. But it's still good to see that someone who worked with Square is in favor of the VC

Re: EU VC Releases - 20th June - Epic Fail

Rexy

Not going to hapepn. With Smash Brawl, such highly-anticipated releases will not happen at the same time of that game's release. Nintendo surely won't throw all their eggs in one basket.

Re: ESRB To Crack Down On Early Leaks Of Games

Rexy

It doesn't bother me as I'm under the PEGI system. But still, being left in the dark is kind of awkward to know what would actually come and what weren't. Either way, at least it adds to the mystery of what surprises could come each week.

Re: EU VC Releases - 20th June - Epic Fail

Rexy

Yeah, the records showed that when Brawl came out the US side received Puyo Puyo 2 and DoReMi Fantasy. I don't think the VC side for us would be quite as good as what you guys got though

Re: EU VC Releases - 20th June - Epic Fail

Rexy

I think we'd actually get a couple of new games, but because of Brawl we shouldn't expect them to be of high calibre. From what we've seen now, NoE have been awfully fickle over the past two months.

Re: EU VC Releases - 20th June - Epic Fail

Rexy

"The fact that Australia is a PAL region, just like us, coupled with the fact that most VC releases for Europe and Australia have been synchronised, means that I believe it DOES mean SMRPG will happen in Europe."

I'm not saying it won't happen at all, I'm just saying that this is all the information that we currently know and that we can't expect it too soon like most people are hastily predicting. Besides, Europe and Australia haven't completely co-existed on the Commodore 64 front for some reason or another; I know you said that "most" VC releases are synchronised, but it just all comes down to what NoE would want to make of all this.

Looking back at my first statement - sure, it's a thrill to wait for something to come. But what's going to happen when that something finally arrives and you start sinking your teeth into it? It'll all come to your head, you'll miss the days of pre-release chatter and you'd wish that you want to anticipate the wait all over again - the moments of hype to keep you stimulated week after week. Somehow, I see it as a bigger thrill than actually playing the end produce for some strange reason.

Re: EU VC Releases - 20th June - Epic Fail

Rexy

Yeah, they did. I initially wanted to see it as a good game for people to enjoy at last year's Christmas party (a role which was soon filled by Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games); I'm glad that it is finally coming through, and it's a weird feeling for me too since I've never played a Smash Bros game before (shame on me lol).

Re: EU VC Releases - 20th June - Epic Fail

Rexy

SMRPG won't happen until Europe gets a rating as well as Australia. At least, that's what it seems to be.
But certainly we won't mind because there's Brawl finally coming next Friday I won't be surprised if NoE are pumping all the attention towards that.

Re: EU VC Releases - 20th June - Epic Fail

Rexy

Why do I have a feeling that VC and Wiiware weeks will alternate? If so, this will be a weird marketing strategy for Nintendo.

Thank you NoE for making me stay up until 2 in the morning and finding out this happens >.>

Re: Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa

Rexy

If this ever comes to the next Hanabi festival, then I'll be among the first PAL gamers to get it. It looks like a lot of fun and challenge

Re: US VC Release - 16th June - Samurai Shodown

Rexy

I see what you're saying with the backwards compatability. Yet, even if the Wii might creep in a few mistakes from time to time, it generally seems to be more polished than its current gen rivals, no question about it. I haven't owned an actual GameCube so I'm pretty much in the dark concerning presentation comparisons here, though the few GC titles that I've ended up with so far don't seem to show any glaring issues to me.

I'm unsure about looking into Sonic Gems though - I've been meaning to play Sonic CD since I never got the Sega CD to begin with, but I also heard that the version on Gems is the PC port (which received a lukewarm reception as far as I've read). I don't know whether to wait if Sega CD support comes through on the VC or consider it as an option though.

Re: Nintendo Channel Gets An Update

Rexy

Even if that's the case, only about 8 of my 100 Miis actually have save data applied to them (most of them being relatives coming over for bouts of Wii Sports). It shouldn't be too much of a hassle if most of them aren't being used for anything other than decor.

Re: Nintendo Channel Gets An Update

Rexy

Maybe it's because only first/second party Nintendo Wii games should be graded and not anything else on that platform? It seems to be going the same way for me too.

Re: US VC Release - 16th June - Samurai Shodown

Rexy

Well, I already have Sonic 1 and 2 as part of the Sega Mega Drive Collection on the PSP but if I think of it this way, £20 shared out among 5 instantly accessible games and a bunch of extra bits does indeed sound promising considering a Genesis title on the VC costs the equivalent of about £5.60 each. I don't think it'll be my next GC purchase though (yay Baten Kaitos!) but it can be something to think about.

Re: US VC Release - 16th June - Samurai Shodown

Rexy

". . . is there something wrong with picking up the Sonic Mega Collection? It would be way cheaper than Sonic 1, 2, 3 and S&K combined on VC, along with all the extras and other games. And it does the "lock-on" feature thing too. I guess if you only own a Wii, some might somewhat dispute the quality of the backward compatibility . . . or maybe I really am a severe minority that cares about the quality of a port/emulation."

As you stated, I only have a Wii; are you saying that there was some alterations to the presentation in comparison to running it on a GameCube? And even if it does sound promising, it sounds awkward just playing all five platform Sonics 20 times each just to get the lock-on stuff (20 times on Sonic 3D Blast? Is that legal?). If I do consider Sonic Mega Collection, then it'll only be considered if A - S&K doesn't get released on the VC, and B - it gets released without the lock-on stuff.

Re: US VC Release - 16th June - Samurai Shodown

Rexy

Are you saying last week was bad? Or are you saying that we need a repeat of the goodness that was last week? Whichever, it's stuff like this that make my Friday mornings all the more special.

And no, Yoshi's Island doesn't have a rating yet. Though, I hope it will because it was a beautiful induction to SNES gaming for me

Re: Nintendo Channel Gets An Update

Rexy

I don't think updates take too much memory at all - didn't feel that way for the bunch of Photo Channel updates at least.

Still, I hope it comes to PAL regions sooner (and I know it'll be late since we got the Nintendo channel late as well) and I think it'll make a good indication on how people play with their Wiis (god, that sounds naughty).

Re: OFLC Update - Super Mario RPG On Its Way To Europe

Rexy

Gameboy games on the VC will be awesome, I agree. But the issue is the link cable feature - how are two people expected to do one-on-one Tetris on the same console? o_O

Also, as far as I know, CT at least has replayability and its New Game+ system at hand, and it's certainly not less than 10 hours long the first time you play it at least.

Re: US VC Release - 16th June - Samurai Shodown

Rexy

"What kills is that a lot of Genesis titles have been announced that I really want to download. Where's Earthworm Jim, Phelios, Shining Force 2, Splatterhouse 2, and Strider?"

I'm with you for Earthworm Jim and Shining Force 2 (even though the original had cool concepts but felt way too short and linear). Don't forget Sonic & Knuckles; if there's time spent getting Lock-On together with it like with the original cartridge, then I can at least tolerate the delay for that

Re: South Korea: Two More VC Updates

Rexy

I think I know why Korea ended up with a skip concerning Mario 2. I don't know if Korea received the American Mario 2 as Doki Doki Panic, but I'm assuming that NoK are stumped between which version of that game to send to the market in addition to which incarnation of The Lost Levels (Mario 2 Japan). Is there anyone willing to shed some light on this?

Re: US VC Release - 16th June - Samurai Shodown

Rexy

"You guys that keep saying you won't download anymore games until Nintendo fixes the storage solution are making me sick. I'm sorry but that Is pretty lazy of you. What if they never choose to give the Wii a harddrive or something?"

Yeah, I too am prepared for the worst. Even weirder still, I ended up filling up the allocated Mii slots on my Wii last night and had to transfer some of the crappy ones to one of my Remotes, and there's no way Nintendo would fix that as Miis could be disposable.

On the other hand, even if Nintendo don't do the harddrive thing, the least we can do is make good use of the SD slot (and I know some people said that the transfer from the card is slow but it's better than nothing at all as far as I'm concerned). I'm sure we won't be biting the dust, as the USB ports are there for a reason (I've only used one so far and that's for a remote docking station) and we could very well see some major peripheral additions in the near future.

Still, this game looks interesting. The weird thing is that I've never played a Neo-Geo game before (shame on me!) but it does look like something to research on before making a move on it, if only to serve as a reminder of my Street Fighter 2 days
