They probably wanted to avoid announcing or doing the Direct on 9/11, which would explain why it's on a Friday and being announced two days in advance.
What a hostile change to make. This wasn't Nintendo patching a bug or an exploit... this was them discovering that some players found a legitimate way to play the game the way they prefer, and Nintendo saying "no, you're doing it wrong". The studio that gave us Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom where there are infinite solutions decided that no, there is only one right way to enjoy the game, and you WILL have fun doing it our way.
I love this game a lot and can't believe it's already been 10 years! The game had the same effect on me too. Part of me deep down knows it isn't the best in its genre and there are parts that could have used a bit more polish, but another part says screw it and enjoys the game for its atmosphere, story, and characters regardless. Really hope this gets the HD treatment!
Looks like they're bringing on a lot of good talent! Say what you want about EA, but DICE's Battlefield and Battlefront games have pretty stellar art direction. It's evident that the artists and devs, in general, put their hearts and souls into their work, even if the publisher ultimately muddles some of their vision with their greedy tactics. Looking forward to seeing what the game looks like.

Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?
If we're talking full price AAA games, I only buy one per year on average. I buy cheaper indies and used games far more often.
