Re: Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Updates Planned For Switch Platforms

@Zeldork A better machine will make it easier and less costly to port a game. You're not pushing back the way you think you are. Yeah it's a bad port but if this game was ported to PS5 for instance. You wouldn't get this level of flaw. Stop trying to deflect away criticism of the Switch 2. It's a fine handheld that can act as a console. But it's just not very powerful at all is all I'm saying. And yeah cyberpunk and your outlaws game are both examples of costly ports. There's a thing called budget and that's where these ports usually get their quality from. So when your porting a 12 year old game that's already been ported to everthing and rereleased with all its content multiple times . The people who decide on budget are not going to spend as much money for that same level of effort. Also those games use the "A.I slop" as apart of how they function . So It also makes it easier to consider that as part of the porting effort whereas Tomb Raider 2013 didn't have those kinds of considerations when it was being made. So they can't rely on that part of Switch 2 to lean into when porting. You can use the word lazy all you want but the reality is the devs who work on these ports work hard. It's just budgets determine how many there are the time they spend and the talent they use to do these ports and how much resource to give to this project versus others and you see the result. So a better machine makes up for the reality of business.

@Duncanballs You can want better graphics in games and not be a crazy person. This is a game from 2013 after all. The idea that a 2025 machine is not gonna allow parity with the ps4, I mean this game came out for ps3 as well. Either way the Switch 2 is just not that powerful and I don't think this game is actually that good. But it is a fun afternoon ignoring the story. Either way at least Only-Switch 2 owners will have a chance to play this game. And have something since tomb raider 2026 games aren't coming especially given how this game looks rn. I hope its at least 60fps 4k. Ps4 pro could do that but this isn't a ps4 pro so we'll see.

@PurpleG None of those are examples of 9th Generation Games. Cyberpunk was ANNOUNCED as a PS4 game. Red Dead came out in 2010 . The hitman games all PS4 and the rest will be running at low settings sometimes up res version of the game 30fps maybe 40-50 unlocked. Look my only point is you shouldn't be unreasonable and expect 9th generation games to run on 8th generation hardware. And to the extent they do. It's because the publisher /copany decided to put in alot of extra money towards creating a lesser but playable version. Doesn't mean that's worth doing and will be a worse version. You saw this with even something like Dead Cells on Switch 1 at 30fps. So yeah idk maybe you need to learn more about the industry. And understand compromising a vision for a game isn't always worthwhile. And cyberpunk even as a ps4 game is clearly a specialized almost remake. Done for publicity of the console more than anything. But yeah its nice to have a portable version with motion controls. And they announced the versions they're making this game for already. Nintendo Switch 2 is for nintendo games and last gen ports primarily so your better off waiting on those.
