@DTfeartheBEARD I know others answered this and had differing opinions, but I have watched the anime (first) and then watched a full fan translation of the original version of the game (so, none of the bonus stuff Noah adds).
People really exaggerate how bad the anime is, but it does leave some important stuff out (like very important) towards the end & has an unnecessary filler episode for some reason. Otherwise it covers a lot of stuff and skips most of what makes Takumi such an insufferable character. It isn't great, but it does tell most of what you need to know.
Chaos;Child's anime, however, IS a mess and completely guts the entire plot of easily one of my favorite games in the whole series. It's so unforgivable how it treated the plot, and that game HAS likable characters.
Trading (either through the game itself or through the mobile version of Home, which is free and bypasses needing NSO).
Pokémon Home (which yes, would require paying a minimum of $3 USD if you have more than 30 old Pokémon stored on it that you want to carry over, but it is still cheap).
Participating in Max Raid Battles, if you want to catch the Pokémon yourself. So even though you can't catch the new/old Pokémon natively, the raids are open to everyone online. So if you see someone doing a Luxray, Golduck or Slowbro Raid, you can get Pokémon that way as well.
Obviously this means you miss out on the new areas, features, customization options and the ability to catch most of these yourself, but you can obtain the Pokémon without having to pay the $30 for the expansion pass.
@dkxcalibur Nothing is really stopping a Diddy Kong Racing from happening. Nintendo could still make a new one, just without Conker or Banjo.
I think the lack of it really comes down to the fact NCL thinks Mario Kart is the only racing game anymore. MK incorporated a lot of ideas from DKR & F-ZERO, it really just lacks a story mode at this point.
@Savino For reference, there are 52 stages in the game that Nintendo themselves made and Miyamoto confirmed he'd be making stages for it.
On top of that, it's not like they didn't add tons of things not possible in different game styles, had to make new sprites for tons of things, new music (for alt styles), and the whole network thing allowing the game to constantly stream user-made stages.
That said, I do think $60 is too much, even with the "LOL IT'S THE GAME THAT NEVER ENDS", but it's not like you don't get a game to play even without making stages yourself. You could never touch the editor and still be able to keep playing.
@Fee Sorry, I meant like, if your internet was crapping out and you shut the game off because of it. It should detect if you shut it off while lagging, if possible. Had it happen at my gf's house when her internet was bad. Game immediately lagged and I quit because it was unplayable, but I was banned for like 2 hours as a result.
I just wish it could recognize or you could dispute it if that happened. That said, didn't really affect me since I obviously couldn't play there anyway.
A lot of you seem to not even know what this is you're mad about.
1. You don't get banned, just kicked, and when you do get 'banned' it is usually for an extremely short period unless you keep doing it.
2. Doesn't apply to friends.
3. These are not as vague as you all seem to think. 'Using one move over and over' or 'attacking one guy' and 'running away' are not the problems. It's EXCLUSIVELY DOING THEM.
You won't get banned for spamming a move, you get banned for spamming and nothing else. They stood still spamming 1 move. It's annoying and wasting time for those who want an actual match.
You don't get banned for running out the clock at the end or running to get your ground, you get banned for running the whole match and not doing anything else.
General idling is kind of a mixed bag. On one hand, it's annoying if you have to leave, but it's moreso to weed out those who have no intent to play. You're just kicked though, and it's after 30 seconds.
Attacking one character is ganging up. There's no reason to NOT attack anyone else.
These are mostly in place for getting rid of people who are wasting others' time.
The whole argument, assuming they're even being serious, is 'HAVING FUN' under the logic that having fun is NOT PLAYING THE GAME, but wandering around and spamming or not attacking.
The only illogical bans are when your internet craps out and you get disconnected or have to disconnect. You basically get banned for a bad connection, but the things they were doing in that video are not 'strategies' and are not 'playing'. They're just being annoying and wasting time for people who actually want to play the game with people.
@SirQuincealot
1. It's not about a stripper, but okay.
2. I don't get how it's easier to promote and sell games about killing people, or you know, Grand Theft Auto, and yet those are bought for kids by their parents all the time.
3. I don't care who buys it. The topic was about Nintendo "supporting" games. In this instance, it's in reference to promotion/marketing release and post-launch support. "Allowing it to exist" is not the same thing. That's like saying Nintendo is supporting The Letter. They didn't support B2 as much in favor of their own IPs, despite funding it's existence.
I'm not even talking about sales. I'm just saying Nintendo had a missed opportunity for Bayonetta 2 to do better. They saved the game, so it's here, but that's not what the discussion was about.
Sales directly affect what we get. People buy it, we get more. People don't, we don't. Nobody buying Bayonetta? No more Bayonetta, no more of those kinds of games or partnerships. Not a guarantee, but that's the kind of thing that happens. It matters that others buy it because the people who enjoyed it want more of those kinds of action games. The only way to ensure that is if those kinds of games sell well enough to show there's a strong market for it on the console.
I'm not part of what Quorthon is saying. I'm not saying Nintendo fans don't buy 3rd party games (as I can apply these arguments to Nintendo IPs as well) and that's not what my agenda was in that comment, as all I was doing was pointing out that Nintendo was, in fact, barely promoting the game that they went to great lengths to help make.
It doesn't affect anyone now (except Platinum Games), but could become a problem down the road, and it's one of the things that got 3rd parties off of Nintendo in the first place (in addition to NUMEROUS other ridiculous things, but it's still one of them).
@Tazcat2011
Nintendo's awful with marketing unless it fits some weird criteria for things they want to do. They put out tons of amazing games or help amazing games happen, but they only really push a select few. 90% of the games they push are ones that would sell themselves by name recognition alone (Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., etc) and Splatoon is easily an exception, as they are really pushing it and plan to support it even more post-release. However, if you look back at all the releases across even just Wii U & 3DS's lifespan so far, you can probably count the amount of games they really advertised & promoted on one hand. Especially if you cut out anything involving Zelda, Mario, or Pokemon.
They do a little bit right when the game comes out, but not much before. This also goes for Bayonetta. It was a tiny burst of late ads and the Playboy thing. If you notice, most games that do extremely well are the ones shoved down people's throats for months and months. Nintendo doesn't put much time, effort or money into hype building beyond Directs & E3, which are really only for the dedicated, not the mainstream who make up the majority of their sales. Some games luck out and just do well anyway, but yeah.
I mean, hopefully Splatoon is a sign of things to come and they will do better with promoting new games and important titles, but I can see them falling back into their old tricks.
My problem is with digital content in general. Has nothing to do with eShop, PSN, XBLA, Steam, whatever. I simply don't like spending large amounts of money on intangible objects. Not to mention I don't like the idea of having to spend money on more memory as well (be it a harddrive or bigger SD card, whatever).
Obviously you get the same content, but I don't like the idea of buying a game at a higher price that I can't return/resell if I don't enjoy it or if it is locked to my system with no guarantee that I can move it if something happens to my system.
For example, my Wii broke arbitrarily (literally, did nothing and always took care of it, but it stopped showing anything on the screen one day) before LostWinds was finally fixed and movable to Wii U's Wii Mode. That game is now trapped on a broken Wii. Unplayable, unsellable.
My 360 RROD'd and I have tons of XBLA games on it that I can't play now, and I can't sell them or return them. I need a new 360. Granted, I CAN move the games over, but I can't move them to an Xbox One. There's also a game that I can't play at all, despite paying for, because it was taken off the marketplace (so I couldn't even RE-buy it) and when I bought it back when I first got the 360, it did something weird where apparently I don't actually own it, and Microsoft wouldn't help me.
So unless I can guarantee I won't be screwed over, I'm not that down with paying more than $10 for most eShop titles. Especially since $15-20 (or more) is a bit much in the event you don't actually like the game and you're just stuck with it.
There's also the fact that the eShop is, and always will be, competing for my money that is likely being spent on retail games or, you know, things far more important than playing games. It's unfortunate, but that's how it has to be.
@Tazcat2011 You seem to be confusing "support" with something else. They absolutely helped Bayonetta 2 to get made, but what did they do afterwards? They briefly promoted it and moved right on to promoting their Mario/Zelda/Pokemon/SSB stuff that sells without even needing promotion. Bayonetta 2 came and went.
Compare the way they promoted Bayonetta with how they're promoting Splatoon right now, and how they promoted SSB4.
@ryan3ds - As you can see in my chart, SSB, Ace Combat & One Piece on 3DS will all support amiibo. Currently, you can only do so with a New 3DS (Japan/Australia), but they're also releasing an adapter to wirelessly scan amiibo to the current 3DS models. Nintendo said details would be provided early 2015.
@vitalemrecords - Hopefully they add themed stages, so it wouldn't even matter if you beat it. I want costumes as well, but they'll be useless if you beat it already. Considering their functionality wasn't ready at launch, I can only hope it will be something big.
@Finntendo - Zelda's amiibo gives you the Dominion Rod if you have it via DLC. The idea is, the Zelda amiibo give you any Rank 3 weapon you have access to for that character. So if you don't own the TP DLC, Zelda will only give you Baton & Rapier drops.
The icon I put next to the non-Zelda amiibo is the Weapon bag, Rupees & Material bags.
@TwilightV - Announced in November, been up for preorder a while now. Comes out within February.
@Uberchu - Link's is the only one that does anything significant. Zelda & Sheik drop their own weapons.
Link/Toon Link gives you Spinner the first time, then gives you any Lv.3 Link weapon from then on. Zelda, Sheik & presumably Ganondorf give you any Lv.3 weapon of that character. Every other amiibo gives you any Lv.3 for ANYONE, rupees, and materials.
@BulbasaurusRex - Yoshi is also compatible with Yoshi's Woolly World & Mario Party 10. I believe Peach, Mario & Luigi are also compatible with MP10. Maybe Bowser.
I did not include those lists in my chart because we don't know what they do yet. My chart is primarily a guide for what the amiibo do so you get a good idea of the content each figure provides. MP10 & YWW would just be figures & question marks, so I'll add them when we get news.
Glad everyone liked my chart! I wasn't expecting this to get posted on a Nintendo news site, haha. I will be updating this periodically as new amiibo are announced & new functionality/compatible games are announced.
Something I didn't include was the unintentional use of amiibo with Pokémon Rumble U. I don't know all the info about it, and I can't test myself. Probably gonna stick to official use though.
Miyamoto says he can't discuss amiibo support with Zelda or Star Fox, but that they are planning something for them. The way Trinen says it kind of sounds like it will be more of a fun bonus and not very significant, though.
@lividd3ad -
As of right now, Toon Link appears to be compatible with anything Link is. Mario Kart & Hyrule Warriors recognize Link & Toon Link as the same character, so presumably (aside from SSB) this is the case with any game. So if you don't like the Link amiibo, you could feasibly skip him & get the Toon Link one with the same functionality. This isn't 100% confirmed, but seems to be the case.
You guys are setting yourselves up for disappointment.
It's going to be the Gotta Catch 'em All website that leaked by accident a week ago. Which seems to be related to the anime, not the games. The teaser image is the same one from the trailer.
So unless there's more than that, it's just the unveiling of whatever that website is for. You shouldn't be expecting new games or new Pokemon.
@Zodiak13 Kid Icarus, Resident Evil (Revelations & Mercenaries), Nano Assault EX, SSF4, DoA: Dimensions, Sonic Generations, Pokemon Rumble Blast, Pokemon Dream Radar, Soul Hackers, LEGO Star Wars III, The Sims Pets, Samurai Warriors, all built-in games except Face Raiders, SwapNote and Animal Crossing New Leaf.
There's 12 episodes. The total will come to $60. That may be the going rate for retail games, but I'd much rather wait for bundles to pay less. Eternal Darkness wasn't worth $60, I doubt a crowd-funded, digital sequel will either.
@DESS-M-8 From what I understand, Nintendo wouldn't want to be a part of this after Silicon Knights' previous fiascos involving money and so on.
@Peach64 If Episode 1 gets funded, they will have the engine and everything needed for the game done. From there, they only need to make new characters and new locations, but built on the same game. It'd be like DLC. It won't cost nearly as much and they would presumably make the addition episodes from money gained out of stretch goals and people actually buying Episode 1.
@LordJumpMad
1. Nintendo's not making this. 2. There are episodic games already on Wii & DSi from other publishers. 3. Even if they were, what mistakes do you believe they'd be learning from? The Walking Dead was episodic and it sold millions. People loved it. You calling that a mistake?
And do you realize how much DLC is sold, even though people whine about it?
You not liking trends that are around is one thing, but they aren't "others' mistakes" if they are successful, bro.
Anyone in this article whining about the violent game thing clearly didn't actually read the linked article, and I have to wonder if Nintendo Life really did either or if they really just wanted click bait.
The article never calls Mario Kart or Animal Crossing violent.
It's just a list of the top 50 2012 games (ACNL for Japan) and what their ESRB descriptions include.
This is the 3rd sale, not 2nd. First was Bit.Trip Complete, then Crashmo and now Fractured Soul.
All I am getting this week is the Castlevania demo. Already own Retro City Rampage, don't have FE:A yet, don't have a Wii U yet (and I can get Runner2 on XBLA, but I'm not dropping $15)
@Mr_Trill281 I am convinced they sren't doing Kirby 2 because of Dream Collection, since you can get it there. Maybe eventually, but for now, I am betting on that being why.
@UnseatingKDawg I am pretty damn sure Nintendo said that the 3D Classics they did were the only ones they planned to do.
I forget who, SEGA I think, is making their own. So the only way we can get more is if a company decides to.
@TheRavingTimes First off, he was FORMERLY with Sony. He can't add 3D to a company he isn't with.
As for why now? Because 3DS is selling well now, unlike at first. And because he probably thought it wouldn't interfere with his trying to sell his technology. Since it did (predumably), he decided to attack now. Or whenever he filed the suit.
@Captain_Balko Don't think they were saying Zelda was a new IP.
The idea was "new IPs on par with Zelda". Nintendo's been making new IPs, but none of them have established themselves or become as strong as something like Zelda. This is actually the main problem with people. We've been getting tons of new IPs, but they don't exist to them because they aren't big adventure games, and a lot of them are downloads.
@Chrno-x
Just because you and I don't care for Brain Training/Nintendogs does not mean they don't count.
Nintendogs, Brain Training, Spotto, A Kappa's Trail, Dillon's Rolling Western, Pushmo, Sakura Samurai, Wii Series, Xenoblade, Captain Rainbow, Hotel Dusk, Trace Memory, Disaster, some Pokemon spin-off series (like Ranger and PokePark), Pikmin, Mario vs. DK, Golden Sun, the rebirth of Famicom Wars (Advance Wars), WarioWare, Baten Kaitos, Eternal Darkness, Luigi's Mansion, Legendary Starfy, Elite Beat Agents, Rhythm Heaven, Fluidity, Endless Ocean, Chibi Robo, Steel Diver, Flingsmash, etc. The list goes on. These are all IPs or vastly different spin-off IPs that emerged in the last 10 years.
@DrSlump You know, I used to ask this as well, but then I actually realized Nintendo's been all over that kind of stuff.
I mean, what do you think the new Monolith game is? Pushmo/Crashmo? Dillon's Rolling Western? HarmoKnight? There have been a lot of new IPs, especially on downloads (like Spotto! or A Kappa's Trail and stuff for DSiWare).
Just because they aren't the games you're looking for doesn't mean they haven't been making them.

@Moroboshi876 Street Fighter IV was on 3DS, and mobile.
It had nothing to do with the power of Switch. Wii U could have handled it too. It was Capcom being Capcom.

If there are, that's icing on the cake, but yeah.
Re: Review: The Denpa Men 2: Beyond The Waves (3DS eShop)
@Zodiak13 Kid Icarus, Resident Evil (Revelations & Mercenaries), Nano Assault EX, SSF4, DoA: Dimensions, Sonic Generations, Pokemon Rumble Blast, Pokemon Dream Radar, Soul Hackers, LEGO Star Wars III, The Sims Pets, Samurai Warriors, all built-in games except Face Raiders, SwapNote and Animal Crossing New Leaf.
Re: Shadow of the Eternals Will Cost $5 Per Episode, Contains Art Assets Purchased From Silicon Knights
@LordJumpMad
Re: Mario Kart, Wii Sports And Animal Crossing Named In Violent Games Rundown
Anyone in this article whining about the violent game thing clearly didn't actually read the linked article, and I have to wonder if Nintendo Life really did either or if they really just wanted click bait.
The article never calls Mario Kart or Animal Crossing violent.
It's just a list of the top 50 2012 games (ACNL for Japan) and what their ESRB descriptions include.
That's the ONLY reason these games are mentioned.
Re: Nintendo Download: 28th February 2013 (North America)
Re: Nintendo Facing Lawsuit Over 3D Technology On The 3DS
@TheRavingTimes First off, he was FORMERLY with Sony. He can't add 3D to a company he isn't with.
As for why now? Because 3DS is selling well now, unlike at first. And because he probably thought it wouldn't interfere with his trying to sell his technology. Since it did (predumably), he decided to attack now. Or whenever he filed the suit.
Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
My bad, I entered before seeing it was UK only. Maybe non-UK winners can donate to UK friends? lol
Re: Talking Point: The Year of Luigi Could Bring a Burst of Creativity
@Captain_Balko Don't think they were saying Zelda was a new IP.
The idea was "new IPs on par with Zelda". Nintendo's been making new IPs, but none of them have established themselves or become as strong as something like Zelda. This is actually the main problem with people. We've been getting tons of new IPs, but they don't exist to them because they aren't big adventure games, and a lot of them are downloads.
@Chrno-x
Sorry bro.
Re: Talking Point: The Year of Luigi Could Bring a Burst of Creativity
@DrSlump You know, I used to ask this as well, but then I actually realized Nintendo's been all over that kind of stuff.
I mean, what do you think the new Monolith game is? Pushmo/Crashmo? Dillon's Rolling Western? HarmoKnight? There have been a lot of new IPs, especially on downloads (like Spotto! or A Kappa's Trail and stuff for DSiWare).
Just because they aren't the games you're looking for doesn't mean they haven't been making them.
