Re: Soapbox: Oatchi Is The Star Of Pikmin 4, And He Deserves To Stay For Good

MetaBunny

@RobynAlecksys While I don’t like competitive battling much myself, my family got endless hours of fun out of the bingo battles in Pikmin 3. I even enjoyed them, since I could focus more on just doing my thing and collecting stuff rather than directly fighting the opponent. We’re still playing through the story in 4, but I suspect we’ll get lots of play out of the dandori battles as well. (Though they have seemingly halved the maps from 12 to 6. 🙁)

Re: Clubhouse Returns This June With 51 Tabletop Classics From Around The World

Everyone saw the small print about local multiplayer, right??

“Free supplementary software will be available that allows players to connect in local multiplayer with someone who owns the full version of the game.”

Yes, yes, yes! As someone who loved Clubhouse Games on the DS and the whole download play concept I’m very psyched for this game and super happy to hear this detail.

Re: Buying BioShock, Borderlands Or XCOM Physically? Expect Huge Download Requirements

MetaBunny

“Why would you want to buy a physical game that doesn't actually include the game you're buying?”

Because a physical cartridge is a TRANSFERABLE licence key!*

I’m glad to see a couple people like @chronicles and @sremick also talking about this.

Back in the fall I got really jazzed up about going all digital. I picked up a big new SD card and was ready to embrace the brave new world. At that point we had three Switch gamers in the family, but all on one console. Buying digital games on my account was all good. Then it hit me that we were probably headed towards buying a second Switch pretty soon. (And we did.) With carts everyone can play on their own account, on either system, no problem. With digital games that’s a big nope. So I’m back in the physical game camp for as long as possible.

(*Large caveat: That’s assuming all the games in these collections are tied to the carts, and not included as separate download codes.)

Re: Angry Players Are Starting To Review-Bomb Animal Crossing: New Horizons

@Dromosus “I do wish there was a "Don't let your seven year old daughter be the first player" warning screen at the beginning.”

My 6-year-old played first on launch day... We bribed/badgered her into agreeing to restart the next day with me as the resident representative and it was absolutely the right decision for all parties. Dodged a real bullet there.

These are games people play for years. They really should patch in the ability to change the rep in the future. It would also be cool to have NPCs mention to other players if they’re waiting on something the rep needs to progress.

Re: Editorial: Merry Christmas And Happy Holidays From Everyone At Nintendo Life

@Nintendofan83 Is the PAW Patrol game half-decent? I’ve got a couple of PAW Patrol loving kids, and I feel like they’d get a kick out of it. However, my almost-6-year-old has already played plenty of Mario Kart, Mario Party, Pokémon, etc. I suspect her standards are now high enough to rule out licensed shovelware. I’d probably give it a go if someone told me it wasn’t total junk, though.

Re: Ring Fit Adventure Version 1.1.0 Adds New Online Features

MetaBunny

I’m so psyched for this game, but still holding onto a glimmer of hope for a digital release like in Japan. As others have said, it’s the sort of game you play for a 20-30 minute session and then go back to your “regular” games. I’d rather avoid the constant cart swapping and get it digitally.

Sadly, I think the odds of a NA digital release are fairly slim. (On the plus side, no digital release would likely save me some money. The Japanese version is a Nintendo Store exclusive. I’d expect the same for NA. Since I’m in Canada that would mean ordering from the US store and paying extra for shipping, possibly even duties.)

Re: Switch Online Members Will Soon Be Able To Trade-In Individual Plans Towards A Family Deal

MetaBunny

@Daniel36 Don’t you mean two kids? (Unless you’re a single parent.)

Anyway, I’m in the same boat as a lot of others here. I’ve had access to individual sub promotions like the Twitch Prime one, but we already had a family plan. So far this offer sounds like you’ll get a discount on “upgrading” to a new family plan. It would be cool if we could apply solo subscription time as a credit to our family plans (maybe 12 months becomes 6 for a family?), but I’m not holding my breath on that.

(I guess you could let your family plan expire, redeem an individual sub code, like the MM2 one, then convert to family again? That’s no good if your individual sub offer expires before your current family plan runs out, though.)

Re: Fan Petition Asks Nintendo To Allow Backup Game Saves In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

MetaBunny

I really don’t get the arguments against supporting cloud saves. It’s not like AC is some sort of competitive game you can “win” or “beat” people at. So what if someone tries to undo something they didn’t like? How does it affect you?

The arrival of the Lite will mean more people will own multiple Switch systems and want to play their games on both. Nintendo should be making this easier, not harder.

Re: Review: Dr. Mario World - A Fun Puzzler That Really Comes Alive In Online Multiplayer

MetaBunny

I don’t get the “invasive” micro-transactions complaint. This is a polished mobile game in the Candy Crush vein. According to my phone I’ve already played it for over 6 hours in three days. As it says in the review, you can keep playing the stages as long as you’re winning, and you can play multiplayer endlessly. If anything, I think they could use a better way to monetize it, because I can see myself and many others playing the heck out of this without ever paying a cent. (There are always the whales, I guess.)

The only negative for me is requiring a constant connection to their servers, especially since those servers seem flaky at the moment. (Offline play is the one thing missing in almost every similar game, and a big reason, IMO, why people are still playing OG Candy Crush on the subway every day so many years later.)
