It's about time. I enjoyed the last South Park game. They do have their flaws, but if Trey and Matt are involved, the SP games usually have the same kind of humor that appealed me in the TV series.
It's a shame that the world still hasn't gained an appreciation for visual novels yet and most are dismissing this game merely because it is one. Lots of great stories and many of your favorite anime came from visual novels, including Steins;Gate, The School of Grisaia, and let's not forget, Fate/Stay Night. But oh well, just because you have to read, I guess.
I mean, I used to dismiss visual novels too because of all the texts I had to read, I get it, but I gave it a try to see what the fuss is about and discovered so many great stories with the awesome combination of visual sprites and soundtracks that improved the reading experience few audiobooks could replicate. It's just a shame many people gave them a look and just thought "Nah. Not worth my time."
I just hope that this underappreciated game/genre wouldn't discourage Bandai from making more Digimon visual novels in the future as that would be a shame. I think that the game made great use of the medium and made the story a lot more emotionally engaging and gripping with its multiple-route plot structure that visual novels often possess.
Anyway, Survive has proven to be not only a decent visual novel, but also a great love letter to fans of the first anime season, Digimon Adventure. I think it's a great deconstruction and a great companion piece/spiritual remake of the anime for the older audience who grew up with the anime, especially with how it makes you feel like you're in a real Digimon adventure where your choices matter in a life and death situation. Definitely worth a try if you're a big Digimon anime fan.
@Poecifer It's not a subpar story and the gameplay is part of visual novel elements. You might not like it, but I for one love it as a Digimon and visual novel fan.
Already got it, playing it, and loving every moment of it. I'm not gonna let others spoil this game for me.
This game was so addictive. It satisfied the movie fan in me the same way Game Dev Tycoon satisfied passionate gamers. The gameplay is a bit repetitive and grindy, but I liked it for what it is. It's cute too, the sprites.
Can't believe I'm seeing a Digimon game on a Nintendo page. lol I know there were Digimon games on Nintendo consoles before, but considering the bitter rivalry between Pokémon and Digimon fans, and considering that Pokémon is Nintendo's baby... you see where I'm going here. It's surprising.
And yet, I can't complain. Always been a Digimon fan. Can't wait for this to come out.
The fan translation of the PSX version of this game has recently came out, but I think I'll give the SNES version a try someday too. I heard the first SMT was a classic!
@PtM Perhaps, but I think CD Projekt Red handled it better than most game studios, who would just move on to the next big milk cow. It's not just about rushing games, but how much game studios care about not releasing a broken game. In our modern gaming culture, they don't care that much because they're too big to fail.
So no, a delayed game doesn't guarantee a good game, but it shows integrity and enthusiasm in getting the game right. That alone is worth a a lot to me because I'd know which company to trust as a money-paying consumer.
@PtM No, but a rushed game will more likely be bad, as we've seen over (WC3 Reforged) and over (Fallout 76) and over (Mass Effect: Andromeda) and over (No Man's Sky) and over (Cyberpunk 2077) again and again.
I haven't bothered to play it for almost a year now. It's not really a fun game to play by myself because I have no one to share my island design with.
The DLC did improve the base game though by adding additional activities that don't just involve collecting resources and island design. You get to design schools and design villager homes that cater to the villager's unique personality. the DLC was a breath of fresh air.
I like the shiny graphics, but at the end of the day, the experience felt hollow and the story felt way too rushed too. Definitely ranks this below SMT IV and Nocturne, and possibly Strange journey too.
I had a blast with this game. I love how immersive the world is, with all the side characters sharing their input on what they feel the world should be like in terms of justice, fairness and freedom, therefore making your ultimate law/chaos/neutral decision feel more meaningful.
Not gonna lie - I had more fun with this game than I did with X & Y. Mega Evolutions were fun and all, but I loved the stadium battles of Sword & Shield. It felt like it was long overdue, being able to stand in front of millions of people and having the crowd cheering you on as you fight in an epic gym battle. That battle music is adrenaline-pumping and embodies just how epic the scope of battling in those football stadiums felt like.
The game might have flaws, but dang if I didn't have a good time. Possibly the greatest presentation of a Pokémon battle since Pokémon Stadium.
I had more fun with the anime than the game tbh. Ash was at his peak in the XYZ anime, whereas the XY games were kinda average compared to the other Pokémon titles, especially when Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire were shortly released a year later.

Re: Lacuna
The game's a little slow, so I've uninstalled it, but I might play it again someday.
Re: Chaos;Head Noah / Chaos;Child Double Pack
Already pre-ordered this on Amazon, so technically it should be under "Have" in my game collection list for NintendoLife. lol
Can't wait for this to arrive! I've wanted to play Chaos;Head FOREVER. Only two more months (plus a few weeks)!
Re: The House in Fata Morgana: Dreams of the Revenants Edition
So glad Switch has all these neat visual novels. Hope we'll get more in the future like Fate/Stay Night.

Nintendo will be milking Pokémon and Mario for a thousand years.

This game felt a bit tedious tbh. I sold it away before I bothered to complete it.
