@Snatcher LOL, 😆😆😆 Yeah. That's reasonable. But remember, while the game can be frustrating and one of Link's lesser adventures, at the end of the day it's a Zelda, and it does have cool lore, and really creative dungeon design. I'm not trying to be a dream crusher or anything.
@Snatcher Yeah dude, like I said I got through the end, and while in Zelda terms, It was disappointing, I did overall enjoy myself. But the game just has a lot of unrefined very frustrating sequences and/or filler, that really don't have to be so time wasting or taxing as they are, if it weren't for some unwise design flaws. From stupid cryptic boss fights you can't figure out, (In its defense the game has both some of the best and worst bosses in the series.) pointless filler, a tutorial that bores half the people who play the game into quitting, boring but required character interactions, handholdy companions, the silent realms, backtracking all the way to and through a dungeon you already beat for pointless fetch quests, and instafail sections, all on top of controls that don't work half the time. If youook at polls, almost 36 percent (now granted this is one particular pole on Twitter I am referring to, it may not properly reflect the true reality.) Of people quit midway through.
@MysticBlue02 Yeah, the game does have a slow start, but I got past that, and overall, I still enjoyed it, I mean it's a Zelda at the end of the day. Really when I'm immersed In a Zelda world I can be patient when it comes to story setup, but I completely understand.
@VoidofLight Yeah, I loved the lore stuff as well, The game is really important to the series in that way, but just too linear, and mechanics that are trivial at best and game enders at worst.
@RoguePirate Hm, fair enough. I don't wanna be pessimistic, but I doubt you will get any more than 65 hours. It's just not the type of genre that gives you 100s of hours. However, the average playthrough of Hollow Knight is 30 to 40 hours, so what do I know, if you were able to get 100+ hours out of that, maybe Dread will be a similar situation. Making up for past titles might be a bit difficult though.
You know, Skyward Sword was my first zelda. I know, I know..... Not something iconic like LTTP, epic like OOT or TP, not something creative like Majora, or Wind Waker, or mind blowing like BotW. As such, while I do have tender feelings for it, (everyone remembers the glory of their first Zelda) After replaying it I realized this is one of the weakest Zeldas. My first REAL Zelda was LBW and after experiencing that, then later LTTP, SS seemed really lackluster. The overlinearity is exhausting and the world's are small, and the game holds your hand every step of the way, and while the storytelling was great the plot itself was lackluster. I am going to pick this up because at the end of the day, it's a Zelda, and I need something to hold me over to Metroid Dread. However, I'm not thrilled to play it.
@RoguePirate Yeah, I guess the only thing you yourself can do is wait for the game to come out and see what others say about the length. It's perfectly reasonable to have length as a top priority for these things, and while I find incredible increase in value in games I can put hundreds of hours in such as Botw, Pikmin 3 and Super Metroid are some of my favorites of all time And they are not even 10 hours. I guess when I love a game and it's concepts so much, the replay value is so great, I play it loads of times, and I am satisfied. I mean, I don't know how many hours Mega Man 2 is, (my favorite 2d platformer) however when I had the urge to stomp some Wily, just weeks ago actually, I kid you not I beat the game in 2 sittings. I beat all the robot masters in a night, then the rest the next day. However, I felt satisfied. I just loved the level design so much, I felt content. I really don't like it when I'm playing a game I really like and it ends much too fast, (the latest case of this is Age of Calamity) and I don't feel satisfied. However, when I a game is as mind blowing as Super Metroid was, I can settle with a shorter game, especially when it has enough collectibles to alter future playthroughs. However since it's been 19 years I'm with you, I want a meaty experience, at least 30 hours. However it's METROID 5! No matter how disappointing a short game will be, no way am I missing out on a new iteration in one of my favorite franchises. And the game really does look good to me.
@RoguePirate That's fair, no one likes a short game, especially one you are enjoying at the time. I don't know how short dread is, but I do know the file size is almost 7 gigabytes, almost as much as Metroid Prime Trilogy, so you can make the judgment from there.
@Double-L Dude Super Metroid is such a treat, you'll love it, also its just nice that Dread isn't only garnering itself attention, but also the series as a whole, I'm seeing plenty of people going back and playing some of the older ones, and that is exciting! I can't believe we are actually about to explode as a fan base. It's a dream!
Well, that is fair I can't stop you. Was it the combat of Samus returns that left you frustrated? I mean if you didn't feel like returns was worth your money, then that's reasonable to say, as Mercury Steam is playing a big part in this. I really loved Samus returns personally, I thought Mercury Statham understood the series better than even Retro understands Prime. (Completely debatable) it is my 2nd favorite Metroidvania behind Super Metroid, (Zero Mission really close behind). If you absolutely hated the game, at its core, then yeah skip this one, but if it's just certain aspects about it you don't like, or the structure, (after all this is a remake, it could be possible that Metroid 2s structure wasn't pleasing to you in the first place so of course it would be hard to like to remake), You may just be surprised, the elements you didn't like could be tweaked, or completely gone.
@RoguePirate Personally, speaking I thought Hollow Knight was a fresh take on the Metroidvania formula and injected a lot of creativity into the formula, and I have faith in Silksong, however something about Metroid has always, at least to me, been different, been special in the genre it pioneered. I don't know if it's the gameplay, or the atmosphere, the combat, or just how cool the games cutscenes are, or the theme of Sci fi, in space with unique creatures. Perhaps it's the tight world design, or perhaps a combination but in the way there is nothing like a Zelda, There's nothing like a Metroid. And truly, I think Dread could be one for the ages and I implore you to check it out, there are loads of stuff for all MetroidVania fans to enjoy in this, mean its Metroid 5! There is no way you can skip this one! Especially since BotW 2 is taking yet another half decade, despite being an asset reusing sequel.......
@RoguePirate It's all cool, no one is mad at you or anything, I just felt like pointing that out. But I actually do not think what you said was incorrect, or irrational, I do have faith Silksong will be great, and in the same way you have faith in the team that made Hollow Knight, I and others have faith in the team that is making dread because both you, and us have seen what these developers have done in the past, and going off of that plus footage is all we're doing essentially, not neccisarily trying to review the game before it's out.
@Moistnado Listen dude, do not look for a 3d game in a 2d one. Enjoy it for what it is, I personally prefer 3d metroid to 3d for a new of reasons, and you justly be surprised by what a great experience it is. The assumption that wd games are cheap is a problem with the Zelda fan base as well. I enjoy 2d Zelda and 3d Zelda on their own merits. 2d Zelda has tighter puzzle design, 3d has more immersion and scope, and while I prefer 3d Zelda, I do not deny how great 2d Zelda is. A game being 2d can have advantages.
@Moistnado Sure they are expensive, but they look so cool and I'm so excited for dread that I'm getting them anyway if I can, at the very least to support the project
@Cathousemaster Actually, I think Mercury Steam turned out a great Metroid and understand the 2d series more than Retro studios understands Metroid Prime. I mean they took Metroid 2, and expanded it so much, tighter controls, more exploration, even some new items and original bosses, and the game looked incredible on 3ds backed by an amazing soundtrack. Icannot believe they took Mereoid 2 that in my eyes was ok about, and made it into a game I will play time and time again. And if ifs the combat has you worried (I never had any problems with is) the addition of Melee Dash and free aim on the run make it so you can still run and gun if you desire. Enter of item pickups hidden everywhere as well. I don't know what you didn't enjoy about Samus returns.
Honestly, I think Nintendo is doing a pretty great job exposing people to Dread. The developer interview and trailer were well done, and besides being slightly cheesy so was treehouse. I know many people previously not into the series giving this a glance. Now if only we could get zero mission, Samus returns and fusion onto Switch so people can go back and play the games in order. I know nintendo is trying to reassure that anyone can make this their first Metroid, but I know a lot of people who would appreciate going in order, so I don't know what Nintendo is doing there.
Aw yeah, keep that success coming! Come on Samus! This is already showing loads of promise, especially considering games like Mario golf, Mario party, and Skyward Sword are also up for pre order. We might actually do it guys!
And also it's METROID 5 of course your going to by it. This is going to be not just another Metroidvania (and I will never downplay indie games but come on, METROID.) This will be the formula with that nice Nintendo polish.
Yeah, just because a game is 2d doesn't mean it's big budget. I see this very easily being my potential new favorite Metroid game. It looks incredible, and no Metroid fan has an excuse to skip this one.
But, ugly stuff out of the way, METROID DREAD. I am so stoked that it is already doing so well, this is in my top 3 franchises right up there with Zelda, It looks fantastic, and quite honestly to me, Metroid 5 means more to me than Prime 4. I understand where Primes fans are coming from, but personally, the likes of Super Metroid are better games. I'm so happy this franchise could be revived.
@RoguePirate Dude, you went on and on about what a sinner people were if they "judged a book by its cover" otherwise known as looking at footage and drawing conclusions about what you see. (which is what trailers are for) I didn't agree with your argument, but I was going to leave it alone. But then you went and said you know Silksong will be great, but you haven't played that! According to yourself what you just said was foolish.. As you told others, "You do you," but at least be consistent in what you have to say.
But I would like to make clear that I do not feel any ill will toward you or your opinion, I just felt an inclination to defend some people you said were unworthy of interacting with you.

@Tim_Vreeland I've spent over 650 hours in the game and never thought to try half the stuff people have been.
