Mega Man 6's NA artwork outshines the Japanese counterpart. For the previous five games this was not the case for me. For Mega Man 5 it was fine, it looked more right to me, the characters were rendered well, but the background just looked generic futuristic, not in a particularly cool way, whereas Rock Man 5 slightly out does it, I just prefer the art style and all the Robot Masters being represented, however, it does have an issue that would plague Rock Man 6, which would be that they were torsos at most, and unlike previous covers, not laid out dynamically, with a generic background.
While the background for Rock Man 6 is better, it shows the planet, which is alright, if unspectacular. Also the layout is even worse, while Rock Man 5 was plain, this really exposes the flaws in the Robot Masters' portraits, there is so much space it cannot help but draw the eye to the missing limbs, making the cover feel sparce and lazy, which is especially bad since it was the sixth game on the last generation console, while the game itself was incredible, it obviously doesn't paint the game or the franchise in the best light.
Whereas the Mega Man 6 cover is far better. While this doesn't feature all of the Robot Masters, and it could have been improved if there was a bit more equality between Mega Man, and the rest of the art, it still shows the theme of the game through the character art. In addition, the drawing of Mega Man is exciting, showing his new power, which is absent from the Rock Man version, and helps make this game look much more fresh - which would have been greatly needed. Plus the castle is a good choice of location, showing the globe trotting nature of the game, and contrasts with the high tech Mega Man design.
