That sounds like almost entirely gfx/platform API related, which has nothing to do with whether you are using ARM or x64.
Also what are you using assembly for? The compiler will be able to greatly out optimize you 99% of the time. Consoles don't have AVX512 and AVX2 and lower SIMD is handled by XMVECTOR and XMMATRIX for you.
@NotSoCryptic Tegra Xavier is a non starter when NV has far, far superior tech at their disposal. Pascal and Volta are good, but they can't hold a candle to Ampere's efficiency and feature set.
ARM CPU cores are absolutely not a hindrance to multiplat development, nobody writes in assembly these days
Whatever Nintendo does go with, it really needs to:
Bring it up to speed with other platforms
Not frustrate developers with ridiculously tight HW limitations
Have legs to do the above for at least 7 years
I get their desire to keep cost, size and power consumption down, but those really should be second to building a system that won't suffer the same long term fate for 3rd party support that the Switch did
Whether they go to Nvidia for something based on Orin/Lovelace or AMD for Rembrandt/Phoenix, Nintendo MUST not cheap-out on the chipset this time around
DLSS does not require an internet connection to function You're confusing it with the fact that Nvidia's server farms churn 24/7 building the AI upscaling model that is used by the GPU to do the upscaling. Then this model is compiled into a file and distributed alongside driver updates. Once you've downloaded the AI model file, DLSS doesn't touch the internet, all work is performed locally using the downloaded model
@progx That's a streaming device, all it's doing is decoding video, AI upscaling and spitting it out to the display. Running a game is a MUCH more demanding task
Also I'm not saying that DLSS and 4K on NSWPro is laughable (in fact it's extremely likely per the Nvidia LinkedIn leak), rather the specifics of how it compares to PS4/Series S is what to laugh at. Whoever said that hasn't a clue what systems are capable of what
DLSS (or any AI upscaler like DirectML Super Res) is not a silver bullet like some of these guys seem to believe it is. There's also several problems with his spec prediction
NSWPro beyond XSS with DLSS Both Xboxes support DirectML Super Resolution which is just the Microsoft version of AI upscaling, so it would not exceed XSS at any point
NSWPro at or around power of PS4 at native resolution Total non-sense, if we reasonably scale the NSWPro's specs up from what we currently have in the stock NSW you'd be at GTX 1050Ti/GTX 960 ballpark, both cards which take a dump all over the PS4. The base NSW CPU is also already superior to the base PS4's let alone how badly NSWPro will spank the base PS4 and even PS4Pro
I want NSWPro as much as the next guy, but this is an absolutely laughable rumor
@Casual_Gamer95 It's very simple, Switch's ARM A57 CPU has far superior IPC vs X1X's Jag Evolved. This is offset by X1X's higher clock speed, resulting in the two consoles having roughly similar single core CPU perf
The GPU feature level of Switch, X1X and PS5 are all 12_1
I really hope it's NOT Botw2 or MP4. To release those games holiday 2020 would be rushing them, and ET 2600 shows us all how good of an idea it is to rush a game for xmas. Pokemon is currently a dumpster fire and the last thing gamefreak needs is another game to rush.
That only leaves Mario Odyssey 2 as the only option to fight next gen machines (though anyone thinking that Nintendo can crush/put a stop to PS5/SeX is nuts, Nintendo "doing their own thing" goes both ways, while Sony/MS don't impact Nintendo's sales as much, Nintendo's sales don't impact those two very much either)
As impressive as Witcher 3 on Switch is, I think it really highlights the need for the Switch's successor to seriously up the ante on processing power. I mean, this is a 2015 game we're talking about that can at most push 720p30fps on lower-than-lower-than-low settings on Switch. Compare when I played it on my XboneX and it's night and day. And yes, graphics aren't everything, but they are still important and considering Switch already has a lot going for it I believe they should focus on the areas that need the most improvement, graphics included.
I mean knowing Microsoft they will probably put xCloud on the Switch, so at least you could stream the games, though you'd need to own an Xbox unless you want to pay for the service
I'm not buying their strategy here. The Wii did the same thing (had lots of install base but pitiful specs compared to the other guys) and while it did get SOME of the bigger 3rd party games, it also missed out on many as well. Just because a platform has a lot of people on it does not mean any game will sell well enough to get a port, this is why you don't see anime games getting put on Xbox One despite it having a higher install base than Switch.
I personally really want the Switch to run it's course and then swiftly be replaced with something a lot more powerful (even if it means giving up on hybrids). I'm thinking something with spec parity to the PS4 Pro, but aimed at 1080p instead of 4K would be reasonable by the time that the Switch gets replaced. And before you say that Nintendo's games don't benefit from higher specs due to their artstyle, until every 1st and 2nd party game can achieve locked 1080p60fps that is not the case.

@PhhhCough
Zelda and Kirby run at 30fps with drops. There's not enough HW power, enough said

@SwitchForce SLI and Crossfire are dead. You'd be a fool to run multi-adapter in 2020

Re: Talking Point: Is EA's Switch Strategy Lazy, Or Simply Common Sense?
@TheMadPolarBear Drop the resolution, use less dynamic lighting, make better use of caches, there's a lot of ways to address limited memory bandwidth
Yes, a 64-bit bus is narrow and not ideal, but it can be worked around, see X1S
Re: Talking Point: Is EA's Switch Strategy Lazy, Or Simply Common Sense?
@sixrings What do you think is hard about Switch development?
Single core CPU performance is equal to X1X
GPU feature level is equal to X1X and PS5
RAM is unified
OpenGL and Vulkan are supported
Like the only two possible issues are no DirectX (PS4 has this too though) and low RAM capacity
Re: Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time Has Been Rated In Taiwan
@Anti-Matter "Xbox One game playable on Xbox Series X"
It's backwards compatible (duh, all X1 titles are) but it doesn't have a version specifically compiled for XSX

"Let's make an Xbox and PS4 version but not a PC/Switch version"
Only Activision could use this logic
