Frankly I'm angry at both companies. I only ordered from Toys R Us because they had such great deals, and now they screwed me over, and Nintendo making retailer exclusives and producing such short runs of all these figures is ridiculous.
I got an email telling me toon link was canceled. As it turned out, every amiibo was canceled, including Lucario who was on a separate order. I got no email about it, I just checked the status and it was canceled. But I preordered him again this morning, and now it looks like Lucario has been pulled from their website.
If what I experienced was the mentioned glitch, which I believe it was (with the differences being that I got a different error code for using an external hard drive, and having access to data management) I had not been online in days and had been using it several hours prior in just a normal 4 player, local smash. So I don't think its related to online play, personally.
I think I had this glitch, but my data is saved to a hard drive. Everything worked fine but smash randomly stopped working and said there was a problem with my USB storage and gave me an error code. Everything else worked fine. Called Nintendo, they had me delete my smash data (the data management screen didn't lock up for me) and I did, and smash didn't work still. Finally I transferred all my game saves to the console, reformatted the hard drive, and haven't had a problem since. Looks like it corrupted the hard drive's format or something, scary to think what would have happened if it was saved to the system memory.
But most of this is nothing new. When they announced them initially, they explained that each game would have its own line of amiibos, being the exclusive game to write to it, while the rest could recognize it. And honestly, how is this confusing? If you buy a Zelda amiibo for your Mario game, you're probably not very smart. Obviously if it functions it won't be a primary amiibo use.
The recent news actually excites/surprises me, because it indicates that most likely a Mario amiibo is a Mario amiibo, regardless of its game, even if it can only store data for one game at a time. But seriously, most of these new revelations aren't new.
I'm interested. As much as I enjoyed Minecraft, I'm actually excited to see someone else's take on the series, especially on a system as well adapted for it as the Wii U. I just hope it has the depth that Minecraft did with things going beyond building, like the abandoned mines, hidden villages, the nether, and finally the end. Plus I loved the soundtrack. These things are what made Minecraft so memorable and feel so deep beneath the fun blocky surface visuals.
