I can see all parts of the argument here, and at the end of the day I much prefer physical games on cart - and Nintendo themselves seem to value this for their own titles. I think the point some people miss is that GKC’s have been welcomed and wanted by third parties so you can see why Nintendo support this option - it’s a fact that for too long Nintendo consoles have been the runt of the litter when it comes to big third party support and this needs to change. For me I’ll take the likes of the amazing Elden Ring physical or not at the end of the day. I think people also conveniently forget that a Blu-ray Disc only holds around 35gb of data and that due to average size of non indie games nowadays, PlayStation and MS have effectively had game key discs for years. All of my physical Xbox series X games literally involve a spin of the disc for a few seconds to trigger a massive download. There is literally nothing on the discs which is why I just stopped buying them. It’s bizarre that only Nintendo are getting singled out for this issue 😊
What perhaps Phil is missing is that it’s Nintendo’s individual approaches to things and the way they shake things up (both successfully and unsuccessfully) is what makes them desirable, relevant and what they are as a company. That and of course that they take the care, patience and quality control required to make the best games in the world. They do this outside of the current culture of other companies who release half broken messes to meet a deadline and fill shareholders pockets. This would likely be lost if they became a subsidiary of someone else. To be fair big Phil needs to concentrate more on sorting his own ***** out - MS’s internal studios don’t seem well managed, halo has been ruined as a franchise and their flagship title Starfield is frankly - boring crap. They also continue to be outsold by Sony at around 3-1 despite sony doing nothing and announcing nothing for the past year. 😊🙈
While being intrigued by Link’s new abilities and liking the creative way it appears you can approach the game, I couldn’t help to be underwhelmed by the graphics to be honest. BOTW was great but it’s 5 years old now, and I get some of the comments about this looking like dlc. Hopefully (gameplay wise) Nintendo will prove us wrong as they always do , but visually this is no Elden Ring that’s for sure. After nearly six years in development I was a bit shocked that side by side in terms of visuals this is virtually indistinguishable from the last game. As a long time Zelda fan, each game looking unique and having a presentation different from the one before is one of the things I like about the series - even majoras mask had a distinctive and darker tone compared to ocarina. I’m definitely not feeling that from what was shown. Time will tell 🤔
What about Radiant Silvergun Nintendolife? It’s by far treasures best game and already has a fantastic Xbox port. Never understood why they haven’t done this but ikaruga is on the system 😊
