When it comes on abandoning physical retail games to fully undergo digital, it truly depends on how Nintendo will plan to handle online purchases. You never know when Nintendo is finally going to let us switch hardware seamlessly without losing anything in the process. If the company does that, then I wouldn't mind opting for eliminating physical option, especially because they won't have any excuse for still pricing the games expensively. Even better, setting a download kiosk on every retailer (or anywhere else) will allow us to download whatever game available on the eShop server without having to use Internet. Every content available on that server will be automatically downloaded on a download kiosk, so you will be able to purchase and install games without waiting for far too long.
I'm already going to get Mario Kart 8, and then it will net me a free game before July? Great news!
Let's see... I already own both Pikmin 3 and The Wind Waker HD purchased on my Wii U, and Wii U Party doesn't interest me at all since I don't often have friends in my house. Therefore, I'll get New Super Mario Bros. U! Glad I haven't bothered purchasing it before.
I never touched Golden Sun during its heydays, mainly because I wasn't that much interested in RPGs when I was younger. The game appears to be very well received. Now's the time to rectify my mistake and buy it off from eShop!
As for Super Mario Bros. 3, I have to download it off from Wii U eShop even though I already own the superior GBA port.
Couldn't Nintendo of America just reuse the French assets from the European version like a good number of the French movies that came in Quebec? Even if they don't necessarily have the same accents as we do, it would be still understandable. Lazy, lazy NOA!
@RobMondavi There's no multiplayer function in this game. Though, there's the StreetPass function that allows you to share your specialty fashion item (e.g. clothes, hats, helmets) chosen at some point in your gameplay and sending one of your children to travel island by island. SpotPass is used to download SpotPass specialty fashion items, like the Frog Helmet from a certain Japan-only Game Boy Game.
It's tempting to get Mario Kart 7 from eShop with the price of 29.99$, but I'll simply pass because I already own the physical version of it and Mario Kart 8 is coming quite soon.
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D doesn't even interest me, especially because I already own the Wii version. A few extra levels, easy mode and waggle-free controls weren't enough to justify a double-dip.
For the rest of the games, they are already downloaded to my system.
For comparison, my Japanese version of Tomodachi Life took 2956 blocks, which is 435 blocks fewer than the European version for supporting more than one language and added direct ImageShare interaction. When I saw that Japanese version's file size last year, I was astounded by how small is the game.
I've managed to get warned by some mod for unintentionally promoting a harmless out-of-bound glitch found on ACNL. And they didn't provided with the actual reason(s). An average Internet community wouldn't mind that glitch, so why would Miiverse be paranoid over it? And that's coming from someone who normally behave properly. The moderation part of Miiverse definitely have rooms for improvement.
When dealing with warns and bans, there's no way for both Miiverse mod and I to argue in a more detailed fashion, since we're limited with a selection of pre-made messages. If I somehow break one of the rules that is categorized as "Other", I won't exactly know how I did until I call with a Nintendo representative. That's not quite efficient to be honest. I understand that Nintendo wants to have a family-friendly environment on Miiverse, I have no problem with them being strict especially with kids roaming around there. But too much strictness can mean that a seemingly okay post would be modded for the most incomprehensible reasons. And that's even if an average Joe wouldn't mind that.
The procedures of Miiverse Mods is my only issue with Miiverse. I genuinely enjoyed it anyway and wish it would further improve as we're speaking.
I wonder which version the writer played. In America, there's two versions. M is the most common and the hardest, in which you get less enemy drops and sustain more damage from hits. The other version is easier, but still way more difficult than the Japanese versions (N and P).
Either way, I'm staying away from playing Haunted Castle. Even if I could use some save states, it wouldn't be enjoyable in long-term.
As someone who already played the Japanese version of it, I can tell the North American Nintendo Direct did nailed its lively spirit quite well! Though, I'm still surprised they'd also throw a retail version considering the amount of content. Can't see myself getting it for more than 30$ CAD.
I find it hilarious to see any assist character running at 30fps while the rest of the game is running at 60fps. Totally surprised me that they've managed to keep the action very smooth for the most part.
I used to own Mario Golf on my N64 since a decade or so and then lost the system and most of my games. Given that I haven't already downloaded that game, I decided to pick it up from Club Nintendo.
I already have Super Mario World on my Wii U, and the other two games didn't caught my interest.
If I heard that it was going to disappear, then I would've gotten this gem via Wii Shop Channel. And it's even more saddening when considering that 3rd party companies are less interested bringing their retro games to Wii U eShop service outside of Japan.
As someone who already played Tomodachi Collection: New Life from a Japanese 3DS, I'd definitely say that this game is worth playing even if it feels a bit shallow in terms of content. This game's humor also draws some inspiration from the WarioWare series, such as seeing one of my male Miis dreaming about becoming a magical girl. What a fun little game!
Interesting to see that they went with robot heads to replace the black-veiled cashiers from the Japanese version. I don't remember what were the name for that headgear and the meaning behind it, but that's a part of Japanese's culture that oversea players probably won't perceive the same way the developers originally intended.
I don't own Sonic Lost World and I already have Dr. Luigi. So, there's nothing interesting for me as of now. Can't wait for the GBA titles to come next week.
That April lineup doesn't have any subpar game on it, which is great to hear. Getting all of them would cost slightly more than a premium Wii U retail game.
I'm still waiting for my RetroN 5 to arrive in my home a bit after it got released. So, I'm not expecting RetroN 6 (or whatever it'll be called) to reach us in a few years. Though, I did heard it'll also read Atari 2600 and Commodore 64 games. I can't find the source link as of now, but I remember reading that article.
The funny thing is, Miiverse opinions are apparently heavily contrasting against those from the reviewers. Does that means the latter were expecting too much from the game?
@unrandomsam In fact, Kirby Triple Deluxe is actually running at 60fps. I have played the Japanese version of this game for quite some time, and it's enough to prove that fact.
After seeing more disappointing reviews for this game, I think I'm going to keep my hard-earned money for something better. 45$ CAD for that game is a bit too much to ask considering the quality of the game. And that is coming from someone who played Yoshi's Island to death.
I'm definitely upgrading Lost Levels to Wii U, so I can totally abuse Restore Points on that game and say goodbye to Game Over screens. Especially because controlling both Mario and Luigi felt too floaty for those types of levels.
Waiting for the reviews to hatch for Yoshi's New Island, but I have a bad feeling I'd be likely holding off buying this one for some time.
All of what was said in this article could possibly apply to the next generation of Nintendo home consoles and handhelds, given that Iwata told at Investor Q&A is planning to merge both hardware development teams in one and to adequately absorb the Wii U architecture. I'm all for seamlessly transitioning between my home console and handheld!
Given that it's about Nintendo, we shouldn't be surprised on how the online services compare to PSN and Xbox Live. Some Wii U developer who shared the inside story of the development of game(s) designed for the console noticed: "At some point in this conversation we were informed that it was no good referencing Live and PSN as nobody in [Nintendo's] development teams used those systems (!) so could we provide more detailed explanations for them?". Uh oh, this is going to take a longer while for Nintendo to get online right than you anticipate.
While there's not a single game out of the bunch that really caught my attention, I went ahead and decided to place an order for the baby blue Animal Crossing 3DS pouch.
Though, why are the prices for these monthly games and the more recent physical Club Nintendo rewards are so high? Can't they just come up with more prizes or stock more of a same prize than they're aiming for? Well, that's Nintendo of America to ya...
Didn't PEGI's Simon Little unveiled International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) at last year’s London Games Conference? They said that the procedures of getting the games rated will be similar to ESRB and is due to be rolled out early this year. Major industry players including Nintendo are interested in IARC. While this seems to be important for the gaming community, it somehow went unnoticed by the network.
After seeing some gameplay videos of the Super Famicom cult classic, it got me hooked. The price tag of Yumi's Odd Odyssey is rather salty for my taste buds, so I'd wait for a significant price drop and reviews before biting it.
Adventure Island II seems to be an interesting game, but I'd rather try it out on the perhaps inevitable Wii U VC version. Otherwise, none of the games of the week really caught my interest.
I remember on how hard the difficulty curve turned out in Yoshi's Island DS when I reached on World 4 and 5. While I didn't lose more than 10 lives back then on these Worlds alone, I did hear quite a lot of players struggling more often than I did on that part. Artoon thought it was good idea to bump the difficulty much higher on a game designed to cater the kids since they're obviously the last two Worlds.
Aside from that, I'm still excited on Yoshi's New Island will play out when I get my hands on it. The original Yoshi's Island on the SNES was so amazing it defined my childhood, and the 3DS instalment looks like it'll be the sequel it finally deserved.

Re: Nintendo Direct: Special Mario Kart 8 Direct Shows New Features, Racers And Items
Questionnable new character additions aside, Mario Kart 8 is pretty much shaping to be the greatest Mario Kart game ever conceived.
Also, getting a free Wii U retail game from a game that we're going to be buying anyway is definitely welcome!
