Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About The Metroid Prime 4 Delay?

Hunter_Rose

I am good with the delay. It means they are looking to give us a great game. The fact that it is back in Retro's hands means that some of the team that made the originals great will have a hand in the new one.

If Nintendo wants to make their customers happy, they could release an HD updated version of Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Switch.

Re: Reggie Explains the Reasoning Behind the New 2DS XL

I absolutely love the design of the New 2DS XL, it looks amazing. That being said, doesn't Nintendo already have an in-between when going from the 2DS to the New 3DS XL? Isn't that currently a space that could be occupied by the smaller New 3DS, the non-XL version? They have already shown that it can be sold at price points of $99 (holiday season) and $149 (Super Mario Land 3D bundle). I am confused as to why they have been so apathetic towards the smaller New 3DS.

Re: October NPD Results Show the 3DS Experiencing Steady Growth

I would love to see the 3DS stick around. While the Switch is looking great, it is no where near as portable as my standard New 3DS, especially when you factor in a case to cover the exposed screen. Worst thing I have to worry about is scratching up the top or bottom of the case while in my pocket, and a new set of face plates will fix that issue in a heartbeat.

Re: Nintendo Issues Statement Clarifying How 'Petting' Will Work in Fire Emblem Fates

Hunter_Rose

Ok maybe this will help. One of my all time favorite books is Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. It has three printings, UK, US, and Author's Preferred Text. The US version had content added and subtracted in order to help the US audience understand some of the British locals and change some of the British humor that may not have been grasped by an audience that lives half a world away. The Author's Preferred Text is, as Gaiman put it, “assembled from various drafts of the book,” and reconciles the British and American versions that came before. Now he did all the rewrites so is he guilty of "censorship" or just making his book more accessible to a different audience? I have read the UK version and the US version, both are great and while I got all the content of the UK version I can see how it might fall flat on some in the US.

Now, since Nintendo is the "author" of this game, shouldn't they be allowed to make the same revisions in order to make this game as accessible as possible to other audiences? Funny how everyone is up in arms about the whole "petting" game but no one seems to be raging about the "censorship" of the scene that can be construed as gay conversion... a scene that was rightfully removed in my opinion. Could it be that both of these parts of the game play differently to a Japanese audience and would garner a harsher reaction from an American audience that lives half a world away?

Re: Gallery: These Artistic Recreations of Women Characters Set a Different Tone

While I agree that women's attire in video games needs a little bit of a rethought, I don't agree with the nitpicking of the Samus Zero Suit. The way I have always looked at it, it was the body suit she wore while inside her armor. It makes sense that anyone, male or female, would wear a similar body suit while wearing the much heavier battle armor... if not you would chaff something awful.

Re: Soapbox: Portable Gaming Forges a Special Relationship With the Player, and Nintendo is the Master in the Field

I have been a Nintendo handheld fan since the original Gameboy. I was lured away by the Game Gear and the Lynx but came back when the Gameboy Color was released, and have had every portable Nintendo system ever since. Again I did stray to try out the PSP and the Vita but they just didn't have the compelling games that the Nintendo portables brought to the table. In the end I have just learned that when it comes to portables, Nintendo is where it is at.

And I totally agree about the phone and tablet market. There are some fine games out there for iOS and Android but there are always the distractions of all the notifications going on in the background. When I kick back and game on the couch I want to GAME, not get interrupted by a work email or a Facebook message.

Re: Best Buy Cancellations of Majora's Mask 3D New Nintendo 3DS Bundles Affects More Customers

Hunter_Rose

@MadAdam81 and what makes you think they won't still do just that. The level of vitriol being leveled at Best Buy at the moment is astounding. There are many that would rather take their money and go instead of trusting them with another preorder even at a reduced price of for no other reason than to spite the company.

The thing is, we have no idea what happened behind the scenes that caused the issue to begin with. They may very well have sold up to the number allowed to them from Nintendo only to have Nintendo come back and tell them that the number has been reduced. I have worked retail in the past and have witnessed this happen with other preorder products. It is also entirely possible that Best Buy completely dropped the ball. Until it is confirmed what happened it is not entirely fair to place the blame solely on one company.

Re: Best Buy Cancellations of Majora's Mask 3D New Nintendo 3DS Bundles Affects More Customers

Hunter_Rose

I'm not sure how mad I would be by this. If I were tryin to collect all the Zelda special editions then it might irk me some but in the end, those effected by this are getting a pretty hefty discount on the purchase of a New 3DS XL. I would be able to live with not getting the limited edition one at that price. They are now able to pick up a red or black unit PLUS Majora's Mask of $10 less than the special edition unit. That sounds good to me, especially since Best Buy could have easily taken a much harsher stance and just place all the blame on Nintendo without compensating the customers whos preorders the can no longer fulfill.

Re: Talking Point: The New Nintendo 3DS Could Be a Huge Success, But Its Route to Release Has Been Rocky

Hunter_Rose

To everyone saying that the XL outselling the regular 3DS in the original line up, that really isn't a fair comparison and I hope Nintendo is not following that logic. The original 3DS design was horrible for many reasons:
-It was angular and uncomfortable to hold.
-It was a finger print magnet.
-The raised lower screen would scratch the upper screen.
-The hinges were weak and floppy.

I could go on. The only thing it has going for it is the pixel density is higher so the image looks amazing on the smaller version. IF Nintendo had released a smaller sized unit designed like a smaller XL or similar in design to the New 3DS then I think the numbers would have been quite different. Of course it picked up when the XL came out, it is the superior design. It would be better for Nintendo to release both and let the consumer decide. I know I was leaning towards a regular New 3DS but will happily get an XL. If they come out with the normal size I will just upgrade my son's unit and pass him down my new XL.
