Every brilliant designer has their highs and lows...
Creating a gameplay experience, then wrapping it in a separate experience, is indeed a sound method of design. However, "Nintendo Land" has the multi-purpose existence of entertainment product, tech demo, and life experience... for Eguchi, falling into the "Wii Play/Sports trap" came all too easily. Animal Crossing was a brilliant example of how to fold multiple purposes into a game. Perhaps going beyond that is too difficult...
Multiplayer was probably considered for a long while, but the touchscreen mechanics of the "Upad" probably eliminated any plans of a tightly balanced cooperative control scheme.
All told, the most expansive launch of any Nintendo console. Pikmin 3, Game & Wario, and Project P-100 look interesting, but I hope they won't be rushed just to meet the launch window.
Until modders open it up, we won't know all the juicy details...
The proposition of using a standard hard drive begs the question: will online game support be handled exclusively by Nintendo's servers? I am curious to see Nintendo's take on restrictive DRM.
Even though this is a casual experience, it actually seems a little bit TOO complex. Wii Sports was such a runaway success to sell the Wii due to it's simplicity. I doubt "Nintendo Land" will have anywhere near the cultural impact...
I actually did enjoy the beginning of the show, with Miyamoto and Pikmin, the introduction of the exclusive version of Arkham City, and the 3D demo of the Wii U Gamepad. That was a good starting point. It all went downhill from there, though...
@Mario500: I dunno, Yamauchi was indeed a brutal leader, but he didn't screw around with making sure Nintendo made good games. Reggie doesn't seem like such a cold-hearted, hot-headed tactician.
Microsoft and Sony probably infiltrated Nintendo, assassinated the coordinator of the real E3 2012 plan, set up a trained body double, and set them up with this junk.
Nintendo probably realized that almost no one ever makes brilliant use of their controllers anyways, so they didn't bother going with their REAL E3 2012 plan. There's always next year to come out of hiding...

Re: E3 2012: New Super Mario Bros. U Media Blowout
circa 2009 Ah, yes, I remember the days when 4 people wanted to play Mario Bros. at the same time... and now we can!

Re: E3 2012: Project P-100 Unites Platinum Games with Nintendo
Agreed, this should have been shown instead of Just Dance 4. Platinum Games team always makes interesting stuff!
I'm beginning to wonder if EA and Ubisoft paid Nintendo to have more presence in the Nintendo presentation...
Re: Reaction: James, Tom and Mike React to E3 2012
I'm curious, how does the NintendoLife team feel about recording "event vlogs" like this one?
Lots of good points made, from Mass Effect 3 to critiquing the E3 presentation.
Re: E3 2012: Trine 2 On the Way to Wii U
Another indie victim of "mainstream sequalitis"...

Re: E3 2012: Download Titles Confirmed for Wii U
Isn't it a bit unusual for the Gaijin team to be making direct sequels, instead of spiritual successors?

Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
@Samholy: Yeah, I'm hoping the 3DS will be another excellent system for RPG's, like the DS.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
Well everyone, it's up to us to create the good games for Wii U! Let's get to it!
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
@cheetahman91: At least these games won't lock up after the 5th boss level xD
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
@bobbiKat: Basically, today's show should have been tomorrow's show.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
@Capt_N: That probably won't be topped for some years.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
If you saw E3 2010, you know that Nintendo knows how to put on an E3... just not this year
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
The design documents of all the good games got hidden in Reggie's boxer shorts drawer of his dresser.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
Look on the bright side, theres never been a better time to be a Retro Gamer!

Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
I don't think even Reggie's body is going to ready for all the people whining about the Wii U Revolution of Mini-Games!

Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
Shame on you, xenomaster! At least you can go through life knowing Reggie is a kinder, gentler Regginator.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
Well Microsoft and Sony do bad always, Nintendo can't really do worse than them.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
A few years ago, Reggie was all about kicking names and taking butt. Now hes all about Peace, Love, and cuddly Unicorns.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
This is the sort of thing they should showcase tomorrow, not today...
Worst Nintendo conference in some years.

Nintendo Land: proof that social and casual trends are infecting them.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
Do they really need padding from other conference showcases? This is just like Sony's conference last year X_X

ZOMBIE REGGIE. HIDE YOUR CHILDREN.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here

Sexy french accent. Not gay. Sexy.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
Now we know why they usually only put Iwata, Reggie, and Miyamoto up on stage.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
None.
Re: E3 2012: Watch the Nintendo Press Conference Live Here
Maybe with the Wii U Gamepad, we might finally see some "Counter-Operative" modes in games again, like back in Perfect Dark.
