Glad to see this get a good review, especially after the other party hopefully (M&S at the London Olympics) isn't looking to good.
"...the Mario Party series is a perennial favourite, and rightly so. Those games are colourful, exciting and, most of all, fun." Did you play Mario Party 7!? It'd be more fun to paint dots on the GameCube and roll it into the M1! (2 was great though )!
I'm glad you did this review, I was sorely tempted, but concerned that it might (despite looking good in trailers) be lacking after so little coverage or reviews anywhere. Bad AI utterly ruined F1 2010 for me, so anything worse would be unbearable. A great shame! Oh well...* goes back to Mario Kart 7 *
The Phantom Hourglass moment was less notable if you'd played Another Code (is that Trace Memory in the US? The one with the White Haired Girl on an island), which had a similar puzzle. Still made me grin though! I always liked saving Epona and leaping to freedom. Every time I do it; in 3D, Virtual Console or a replay on the old N64, it brings back so many memories of what was (for young me) a defining moment in gaming.
That's less time than we had to wait for Smash Bros. Brawl to make it over here! I'm glad it's happening, it's an awesome game, but I hope this ends the persistent whining about how horrid Nintendo are to the America's and divert attention to place that really do get screwed over a lot (Australasia, natch).
@ninigou I do, for one. I shop online for most new releases, certainly, but you can get some much better deals on older (particularly pre-owned) games in the high street then you can on the net still.
These round table's are a great read! Bravo NL! I agree with @14. Whilst the mainstream media seems to be full of hate of the Wii generally (I've lost count of the number of Skyward Sword articles saying that Wii has had few good game 'til now), I think the number of distinct and under-appreciated titles might make it a cult console in years to come. Y'know, in the future, when all the current gen machines look rubbish and only gameplay shines though. There have been some really experimental ideas on Wii with controls and gameplay. Whilst shovelware dominated the charts and it did lack in AAA shiners the Xbox and Ps3 have been getting, the likes of Eledees/bits, Little King's Story, Red Steel 2, Murumasa, Boom Blox, S&P 2, MotoHeroz, Kororinpa, Xenoblade, Wii Music (hush you, it was a fun play about I say!), Zack and Wiki, any number of light gun titles, 2D platformers and a multitude other games that break the mould with unique concepts, might well stand the test of time, simply because they won't get superseded by new, shiner offerings so quickly. I for one have loved the Wii, it's something really different to my Xbox in terms of games and I've had the best multiplayer of the generation on it for sure. ... Oh, and the GameCube was great too!
Would like to see a review on here or in NGamer to get more details before deciding, but FreakyForms looks like it'll be ace (and people seem to be saying good things in the comments!)
@5, 6, 9 ah I see, I though so, I just wasn't sure if my Layton-loving mate hadn't got a copy from foreign climbs! It's a shame the States had to wait, but it does make more sense after the 4th game introduces some of the characters! (A side note: I thought it wasn't half-bad, an enjoyable animated romp)
I'm skeptical after Sumo's not-so-sparkling work on the Wii version, but I'm hoping for something great! Stupid release window though, Kart, Land 3D, Kirby Mass Attack and Skyward Sword within a week!
That look's stunning **sets as a wallpaper**. And no spoilers...wait a second, isn't that Link? Link's in the game!? The twist, it's ruined! 'Tis lovely though. More please Nintendo! MOAR!!!
I just want more Pikmin now, but I could just wait 'til WiiU arrives, there's loads they could do with not just the touch but the second view on the world. Now, Ninty, NOW! (or maybe even a new franchise, there hasn't been anything that new that's that refreshing Nintendo form of bonkers since Pikmin 1!)
I wasn't entirely sold on this, even after playing the demo-y bit, seemed lacklustre compared to the awe-inspiring Galaxy 2. This cheerful trailer has got my excitement levels up though, bring on 18th Nov, Nintenday!
I almost loved the original, but my PAL cartridge had a bug where once you passed the 3rd world (of 6), if you turned off the game the save file would delete itself entirely! The only way to see the end was to enter the (fart and burp noise) cheats or play worlds 4-6 in one session. Still, had a neat central mechanic, and some very jaunty pirate tunes. Very. Jaunty.
I think it's a great advert for the service and a lovely gift, but after getting an Android phone in the hopes of some cheap gaming, I'm hoping Nintendo keep costly quality over cheapo quantity in the main arena (outside of special event freebies, natch). There is so little in the way of good, reasonable or even not-complete-trash games on App Stores it's an epic quest just trying to find something to test out, and if the eShop (and co.) went the same way I'd stop browsing them once a week and stick to retail.
Great news! A release within a year would be nice. It'd give me more incentive to pick up Cave Story 3D and play that bad-boy ASAP, eh Nicalis? nudge, nudge; wink, wink
I have many friends who love Adventure 2 (more than share my opinion!) as much as the other commenters, but I personally despise this game. Not because it's different to "classic" Sonic, I just found it to be shoddily put together, irritating in the extreme and the quality polar opposite to Mario's 3D titles (and Rare's platformers for that matter), which were class acts 5 years earlier. 6/10 seems fine, maybe even generous. Obviously I'm not in the majority though! I though I just had an unusual bunch of mates who liked it, but there's lots of Adventure 2 love here!
UK prices, stock numbers and release dates were my biggest N64 problems. THE Games (or whatever they were called) at the time were a nightmare. I would have been miffed about the expensive expansion pak if it wasn't neatly packed into DK64 too. The console I had no real issues with though, the game selection blew the PS1 away for me.
Like so many others, this is still my favourite ever console. I bought it for the technological innovation in 1997, I keep playing it for the wealth of top quality games today. Sublime.
@103 It was a great racer! Didn't know it ever reappeared reskinned. Criminally undersold, and in these modern times I really miss having the odd racing game that favours fun over simulation (Mazza Kart excluded, obviously!) @104 and all of those too! (I'd plump for XG 2 over 1 myself, but I loved all of those!)
There's just to many good N64 games to chose! I personally think each and every game there is awesome, along with things like Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, Rocket: Robot on Wheels, Shadowman, Turok, Excitebike 64, No Mercy Blast Corps, Beetle Adventure Racing...there's too many! Seriously, still my favourite console ever. Good to bad game ratio WAYYY higher than anything else I've ever owned!
I'd have liked to have gone but, for all the scorn poured on GAME the shop, GAMEfest was cheap and, for once, centrally located. One Zelda Symphony Concert in London is pricy enough for me! To those who do go, enjoy any Ninty games, assuming it's the same stand as GAMEfest they had loads of units with very short-to-no queues and some great demos! (and take you're 3DS in Streetpass, hits galore !)
That's exactly the response I got about it, to the letter! Which was only frustrating because I asked about a possible later release on DSiWare or something in Europe. @Wolfpacleader1986 : Grow up! If you lived through the eighties/ninties/early 2000s you'd know America got SOOOOO much more than Europe, who were treated like dirt on so many things I can't even list them. And like Threepwood said, it just isn't relevant to this, that treatment for my entire childhood and teenage years in no way makes me happy about what happened with Xenoblade in the US, and doesn't relate to this mode now. Basically: Every region-based software exclusion sucks!
Hmm, I got so many of these before, it's difficult to find one to buy to support this! It's great news mind, it's nice to have a critic/journalist view of what to get promoted to the front of the eShop over commercial lists. Hopefully more to come!
I can't imagine something as major as an additional Circle Pad could be on the cards, and that 3rd party developers know and have keep it entirely under wraps (as is said in the 01net article). I certainly hope not, I didn't buy a launch 3DS to have it out-dated within the year! EDIT: good point about Kid Icarus though @JarvanZheitk!
Mine works fine, but I've never suffered with Brawl or Other M. Surely Ninty should fix it? (they fixed my mates that did suffer Brawl issues) @pixelman That. Is. Awesome!
I agree with @LTD entirely, there's no space for a flat Wii under my telly, and I love GC controller for Mario Kart 64 battles! The Wii seems a bit too trim and neat to benefit from a slim model as much as the 360, DS and PSX did, but if it's cheap it's no bad thing...
Never got very far in Metroid 2 before, but everyone seems to like it and the other Metroids are ace, so I'll give it a go. I also seem to remember really liking 6 Golden Coins once upon a time (until getting stuck at some giant fists in Wario's Castle, if I recall!).
@antdickens That's a good point, almost certainly not! I suppose the real decision is play like a madman at release or flee to the wilderness to live among the animals! Unless they want to spoil Zelda too...(looks left and right maniacally)
Those graphics look great, hopefully the overall production values are higher than Mercenaries, that felt a bit shonky overall. I'd like stylus/gyro aiming as an option too, though the face button setup in Mercenaries was fine (like Resi 4 on GameCube).

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, (these are fantastic even with a little stretching or cropping), but why no 1920x1080 version?
