Even if the game allows you to control it through the D-pad, no one who knows what they are doing will use this, because the "D" in D-pad means digital! Smash Bros. relies heavily on having an analogue method of control for general movement and attacks.
Only things I'm missing in Melee and Brawl are the notifications for playing 100,000 matches and 1,000,000 matches. Can't wait to do everything there is to do in this game.
How much more than Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V do they need to do to get these games out? I mean, if a freeware emulator can run 99% of games 99% of the time, I'd hope a big company like Nintendo could do the same!
So, this update is just making this game what it should have been when it was first released? I'm honestly surprised that some of these things (like the default option after a race being Mario Kart TV) got past the beta testing. It's not at all game breaking, but these are small minor things that I'm shocked Nintendo didn't fix BEFORE the game came out.
Maybe now they can add payed DLC to fix the game's other problems, like the horrible Battle Mode and Character Roster. If they fix those, I'll say this is one of the better Mario Karts.
I'm excited for most newcomers, but I chose Pacman, despite not really being a fan of his games, more for the epicness of having Mario and Sonic and Pacman in a game together. Couldn't really care less about Greninja or Villager, and a tad disappointed in Lucina, but otherwise, happy with all newcomers.
I don't plan on buying any Amiibo. They won't factor into competitive play, and the concept looks kinda dumb to me (like an easy way for them to grab money).
As for returns, though they screwed him up, Marth is still my favorite character, and I hope they realize that they made him too slow before the game gets released.
You could get a download code for a game now, and redeem it once you have the system.
And SSB4 isn't doing much for the competitive crowd. Final Destination stages screws us over hardcore (since he's making every stage as gimmicky as possible now that he thinks FD stages will fix the issues competitive players have with gimmicky stages, but it really doesn't because we nee different basic layouts), and the game engine has some flaws (from my own experience, moves seem to have a lot of ending lag on them, they attempted to balance the game in some horrible ways like making Marth, a really balanced character, way too slow and weak). I'm a competitive player, but Sakurai's attempts at making the game better for us have been awful when put into practice, so I'm not happy.
I'm surprised to see the original Ocarina of Time beating Ocarina of Time 3D. I mean, they made the graphics and controls better (two things that did not age well at all), updated Master Quest a bit, and fixed the stupid Iron Boots problem.
But then again, I'm sure people will wonder why I chose the original Wind Waker for this poll and not The Wind Waker HD. To me, the biggest difference between the two is the graphics style, and TWWHD's lighting engine is absolutely hideous!
I would have loved a realistic style. I would have been alright with a Hyrule Warriors style. Please don't hate on me, but I'm disappointed with this game. It's just cartoony, like EVERY OTHER ZELDA GAME.
Don't get me wrong here. I love the open-worldness. I love the steampunk. This is just a very big missed opportunity IMO. The E3 2011 demo looked perfect. But this... this is just The Wind Waker HD's graphics. At the very least, I'd prefer the art style of the original Wind Waker (since people can't seem to tell the difference, on Gamecube, it was cel-shaded. On Wii U, it has a color gradient, and therefore, is NOT cel-shaded), but I think they couldn't possibly have disappointed me more with the graphics.
When it comes to controllers, I'm the exact opposite! Muscle memory betrays me in Brawl if I use a GCN controller, and I start to play as if I was under Melee physics.
I have to say that I hate the Wii U Pro for one reason - The analogue sticks are above the face buttons. I don't care much about the placement of the left stick, since my thump stays on it at all times, but my other thumb hops from the buttons to the stick constantly, and every other controller for every other console ever made with two analogue sticks has had the right stick beneath the buttons. I've tried to play Brawl on Dolphin with a Wii U Pro, and I'm gonna have a hell of a time trying to adjust to reaching UP for the stick!

Re: Poll: Which is Your Favourite Super Smash Bros. Challenger So Far?
My thoughts:
Falcon was the coolest in that trailer.

@WaveDash That looks amazing. If I wasn't a broke high schooler, I'd fund that project.

I constantly use the C-Stick in Smash Bros., so it's really gonna screw me up.

@MixMasterMudkip
*One frame input delay. Not one second. BIG difference.
Also, most players are going to do SSB4 on an HDTV, so they probably don't care much 'bout input lag.
