Re: Talking Point: What Approach Should Nintendo Take With Its NX Reveal?

Geno-Beatdown

I've had a 3DS and Wii U since launch, but I only ever watched Nintendo Direct once. It was the one that was mainly about Hyrule Warriors. I've tried many other times, but I had trouble understanding Iwata, and all the native-English speakers talked down to the viewer like a child. I chose the first option here, but I think it's pointless to do a reveal this year. Besides, I'm still more than happy with my current Nintendo systems, with way more games than I have time to play.

@Damo
Maybe they're a UK thing, but what are bumbags and shellsuits?

@samuelvictor
Yeah, I've been hearing a lot of that too, makes ya feel old, huh?

@Nintendood
Oh my god, I'm so jealous... I wanted to go to that so bad. Probably the 2nd biggest concert in US history, after the original... Both in upstate NY, which was too far more me to make it. I don't think it matters much that it's off-topic at this point (hopefully), but could you name some of your favorites that you saw?

@Devann
Wow, that's beyond insane.

@faint @buildz
Yes, whether it's HTML or bbcode, not knowing his ass from a hole in the ground kinda proves that he has a lot more to learn before he should've ever tried selling something on the eShop. Some people go to school for years learning about game development, and he's an insult to anyone like that.

@rjejr
There is nothing hypocritical about this article. That would require Nintendo Life to be selling games on the eShop that they put very little effort into themselves, and profiting from it. As you mentioned, a lot of things in the US are a joke, but is that an excuse to make everything, like the eShop, a joke too? Sure, there's other crappy games on there, but not nearly as many from anyone else.

@faint
Wait, you're from the US too? You came off as way too intelligent for that... (kidding, of course)

Re: Review: Titan Attacks (3DS eShop)

Geno-Beatdown

@Gridatttack Only the Pokemon games mix 2D and 3D like that, and it's not for any logical reason. All the 2D parts are in the most basic areas that definitely don't have any reason for performance concerns.

I'll be getting 7th Dragon because it's good enough that I wouldn't want to miss it, but 3D or not doesn't affect when I get games, because I always wait until they all go on sale for a lot less before buying them.

Re: Review: Titan Attacks (3DS eShop)

Geno-Beatdown

@Gridatttack
You don't use the 3D at all? Mainly for the headache reason? You've seen people say "no 3D, no buy" on games that score higher? Usually games that are good enough to get an 8 on here, are good enough for me to overlook no 3D, but it still bothers me because it feels like an in-your-face (literally, cuz there's no depth) disappointment when switching from other games on the 3DS.

I don't know about the 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors, but I just found out about how the Pokemon games don't use it on the overworld (wasn't sure if I wanted to try those ones, so I asked about the 3D), and I can't imagine why. They're totally inconsistant about 3D in Pokemon games.

Pokemon Rumble World has that screen where you talk to the king, which is the only screen in the entire game completely in 2D. It's very strange and jarring when suddenly the same Mii characters that are in 3D in the plaza are all smushed flat, considering that it would've taken less time to make that single screen 3D than any of the things that already are.

The Japanese game is one made for 3D vision training, mainly for people that have trouble with it and small children. Yes, the 7+ age thing is all nonsense, and it's completely harmless for their eyesight. That was only done to quiet the complaints of paranoid parents. This game I'm talking about is specifically made to appeal to very young children, and says for Ages 3+.

Re: Review: Titan Attacks (3DS eShop)

@Gridatttack
I think you mixed up the two names in your reply. Your opinion isn't going to be the same as anyone who doesn't view the 3D as a "gimmick" (most people who leave it on), and never gets headaches from it.

The 3D uses the same amount of power from the CPU as the difference between 30/60 frames per second (all it's doing is adding a second view for your other eye), and many games only slow down when you turn it on. There's no need to strip a game down at all for 3D, it just takes a little more effort from the developer.

There's no game that literally requires it (except in Japan), but it makes many games much easier than without, by making it so much easier to tell distance, especially for 3D platformers. There's a lot of games that would be a lot worse without it, like CRUSH3D for example. It also makes every aspect of the visuals more exciting. It's not important enough for me to skip a game that's really high quality otherwise, but it's enough to not bother with any game I'm not sure about.

@Deadstanley @ECMIM @Gen0neD
Agreed. No 3D, no buy. What kills me is when people who don't even like 3D or get headaches from it (or still think it can be called a "gimmick") try to make a point about why they think 3D isn't necessary. Clearly it's not done for those people, anyway, so they're the last ones who should be commenting on that aspect.

It's done for everyone else who can appreciate the huge amount of impressiveness and immersiveness that actual depth adds to the experience. I've yet to find a game that did even a halfway decent job of adding 3D that didn't benefit from it greatly. Just because you can get away with not adding it, doesn't mean you should.

Re: Nintendo of America Has a Snazzy New Slogan - "There's No Play Like It"

Geno-Beatdown

A New 2DS?! Hahaha... what a silly idea.

@Kirk
Give it a rest. We get it - you don't like Nintendo anymore! You only enjoy complaining about Nintendo... They're not desperate to convince people of anything, because they never stopped being unique and innovative.

The 3DS is still a huge success in all regions, and by far the most impressive portable system. It's still one-of-a-kind, over five years later. The Wii U is definitely the most unique experience on the home consoles. Neither one relies on gimmicks, because a gimmick would be something that's NOT actually capable of improving or enhancing the gameplay experience.

@Danrenfroe2016
Do you have any idea what you're talkin about?!
@Indy83
Did you really need to post three times about how awful you think Nintendo has gotten?
@3MonthBeef
I won't buy another console for a couple years, so I know nothing about the NX, but you're not talking about a direct connection with mobile devices, are you? That sounds awful.
"what's google playing?" is a slogan?! I've never heard it before, but yeah, it sucks, much worse than this one.

(sorry, I haven't watched any commercials in years...)
@MailOrderNinja
"Like It Only Does Everything" is a slogan? Never heard of it. What's it for?
@Ryu_Niiyama
"Greatness Awaits" is a slogan? What for? Never heard of it.
@nab1
Agreed. I don't ever want to play games without any buttons - using phones is so crappy, and I definitely don't ever want a tablet. Wait, Vita doesn't have buttons?! Anyway, in addition to buttons, if the ad were for actual 3DS and not 2DS, there'd also be the unique experience of glasses-free 3D gaming!
@DinoFett
No kidding! The shapes don't look bad on the Playstation ads, but my whole life I thought having them on the controller buttons was so lame and such a bad way of designating buttons. Much harder to explain combos and cheats too - and even memorize them yourself in your head ("triangle, circle, circle, triangle, square, triangle..." as opposed to "A, B, B, A, Y, A...")

Re: Disney Infinity Has Been Cancelled

@Darknyht
Wow, I'd have to think about killing myself if I knew how fun some of the games were and I never played many other highly-rated ones, because I was so blinded by my hatred for game graphics in the 90s, that I could never enjoy playing them again, or even try the ones that I missed! I'm getting depressed just trying to imagine how horrible it would be, being trapped in your mind.

@Nintendood
Hey check it out, I changed my avatar to a picture of Geno, and took Mallow outta my user name.

Re: Disney Infinity Has Been Cancelled

Geno-Beatdown

@rjejr
Is that really your attempt at making a point? You name the awful games from the absolute worst developer available, RCMDIAX, who still hasn't figured out how to turn the Caps Lock off when coming up with the titles for them? Not that you're much better, spelling Nintendo wrong every time you type it, like it's difficult. If you're not gonna be serious, what's the point?

Re: Disney Infinity Has Been Cancelled

Geno-Beatdown

Are you being serious? If you were alive when it was released the first time, you must've been pretty young, since most older gamers have a much greater appreciation for good graphics on the SNES, especially ones that still look impressive today!

Re: Disney Infinity Has Been Cancelled

Geno-Beatdown

If I see them super cheap, I still want to get the Nightmare Before Xmas figures, does anyone know how many there are? Would I need a specific version of Infinity if I wanted to play any specific content related to them?

@rjejr Why do people care so much about the NX? Can't they just enjoy their 3DSs and underappreciated Wii Us and all the awesome games available for them, and just forget about the NX until whenever it gets released?

Re: Popular Super Mario Maker Speedrunner and Streamer Has All His Levels Deleted by Nintendo

Geno-Beatdown

@Nintendood Wow, I was starting to think I was the only one... When it first started to get popular, watching other people play online, I was like you've gotta be kidding me, right? I think some people must start off wanting to know how to accomplish something, and just don't have the patience to read about it on a site like GameFAQs, or they need to learn a better strategy at a game because all their friends keep on beating them. But I think some people like, literally get some kind of enjoyment out of it, even when it's a game they already own and could be playing themselves instead, and even when they're not learning anything from watching it!

Re: 3DS Homebrew Hacker Turns to YouTube App As Latest Workaround for 'Tubehax'

Geno-Beatdown

@HollywoodHogan That's totally beside the point. Game creators have never profited from the sale of pre-owned games, because that would be silly. Whoever bought it initially deserves the money they get if they decide to sell it to someone else. Someone dowloading a ROM without already owning the game hasn't actually earned the right to play it, so it makes sense that it's illegal. Can you really not understand this??

Re: 3DS Homebrew Hacker Turns to YouTube App As Latest Workaround for 'Tubehax'

Geno-Beatdown

@HollywoodHogan How do you steal one? Easily, by downloading the ROM.

You can find the physical cart for almost any game you want on eBay or Amazon marketplace, not to mention pawn shops plus specialty gaming shops and online stores. Even with shipping, the vast majority of older games sell for less than 25% of the original retail price.

It seems like emulation has made the younger generation feel like they're entitled to play any older game they want for free.

Re: Review: Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures (Wii U eShop)

Geno-Beatdown

There's no O in "diarrhea"

The Angry Video Game Nerd is a moron, and seriously lacks skills. He made Fester's Quest sound like trash (much like the piss-poor review on this site, which is rare for NintendoLife), when really it's fun and challenging, and was innovative at the time. It simply required a bit of patience and skill.
