Re: Dead Cells' Accessibility-Focused Update Adds Assist Mode, Difficulty Options, And More

Everett_psycho

I finally managed to ween off dead cells, and now off hades too. I loved it but it was a huge time suck getting good enough to finish it. I managed to 4BC difficulty so this might help me clear 5BC. It's definitely a game where nerfing the difficulty isn't a bad thing for some, they balanced it so 2BC wasn't the ridiculous hurdle it once was but 3BC became the hard one after that change. Pretty sure I ended up just cheesing it with a broken build that just ripped through enemies with minimal effort and meant the last boss could barely hit me. It's not ideal but those runs where you end up with very synergised weapons and mutations really help make the game finishable.

Re: Reggie Had To Fight For Wii Sports As A Pack-In, And Miyamoto Wasn't Happy

This was a great call by Reggie. Wii sports was just the perfect pack in, it showed the new control scheme off perfectly, was fun on your own and most importantly, both intuitive and fun with friends. I had no interest in a gamecube with motion controls until I played the game at a friend's house and it had enough depth to feel compelling and hook you in to thinking this is how games should be played as it's such a natural feeling, and go home and buy one for yourself. You then take that to more friends and they all buy one too.

Their target market was non gamers and packing this in hammered the consoles abilities to that market through exposure, everyone mum's and nans bought them too that's how well it did, had you taken Mario to Nana's house I doubt she'd have been interested let alone bought one, but bowling how you would at a bowling alley signed them up.

Admittedly the success led to ridiculous amounts of shovel ware and let's face it, other than a select few games the motion controls in the state they were didn't last well and most semi serious gamers got over them pretty fast. But they made a profit on every Wii, even if they didn't sell a second game they made some money for that console and chances are that sale probably led to another sale just through Wii sports as a promotional tool.

@Desrever pantone and colour matching is another planet, we had the swatches in one office I worked in and so many people have no idea it's a thing. We had to keep them and the calibration sheets stowed away to prevent light damage.

Anyone interested the graphic designer at Linus media group did an unboxing of $10000 worth of pantone coloured chips on their short circuit channel last week and it's pretty interesting for those not living in that world. I mean it's a lot of money on coloured plastic chips most people would think was a waste but it will save them money in the long run with product developments and prototyping being accurate first time.

Re: Dead Cells' Biggest DLC Yet, 'The Queen & The Sea', Is Now Live

@Desrever I hit the wall at 2BC, they clearly knew there was an issue as they made 2BC easier a few updates ago and now 3BC is the new difficulty spike. I just couldn't best the last boss in it.

Using custom game really helped, building a set up with good damage output got me through it, used electric whip, ice shards, an owl that adds oil and wings if the crow. Turn out using wings if the crow that I never really used before makes the last boss a lot easier as you spend most of your time just floating above his attacks, pair it with the instinct of master of arms mutation and your ice shards hit crits and reduce your cool down so you can float over him again sooner. Once I cleared 2BC 3 and 4 followed pretty quickly with this build.

@Desrever I tend to use custom mode and leave exact 20 items turned on, usually a few weapons in my colour of choice then top it up with off colour ones. I don't find many good weapons for free doing this but when I go to the shops and pick my colour I only get offered what in after.

The key is really building synergy between objects, so if you are inflicting poison with a weapon make sure other weapons deal extra damage to poisoned enemies.

It was a slow burner for me, took me a lot of tries to get through the first boss but once it clicked I got to 2BC quite fast, then hit a wall for ages. Eventually managed to get through 4BC and have t braves 5 yet. Moved in to Hades for a bit now though.

What I can say is it makes gamepass great value having both dead cells and Hades as games I keep coming back to.

Calling it now, MK ultimate as a launch window title for the next console makes sense, every track and racer we've ever had with extra themed tracks and drivers in dlc.

Why replace what's still selling ridiculously when you can save it to push your new hardware sales right out the gate. I fully expect Nintendo to save their AAA system selling games for the release of the next console to knock it out the park right from the beginning like the switch did. All the big IPs in year 1 then slowly work down them until we get metroid 6.

Re: Dead Cells 'Practice Makes Perfect' Update Makes The Game Easier, But Only If You Want That

@Spiders Theres a few streamers who replay games like dead cells a lot. A guy called veedotme is one of them. I only watch the odd upload he puts on to YouTube as it's not hours long. I'd rather play the game than watch someone else play it. The trouble I had with this game was the amount of options of weapons and then affixes on them was overwhelming. Watching them saved me a lot of trial and error as they suggested some very good weapon builds and suggested using custom modes to limit the weaponry on offer to have the best chance of success. It wasn't an easy mode but with the tips and practice I found it was achievable to finish the game on higher difficulties even if you may have to dig out a broken build to get through a boss.

They also removed dual binding, I knew it was coming so got used to not having it but that used to be a fantastic way to cheese the game with certain builds like electric whip and ice shards.

I've managed to reach 5BC (the top difficulty) eventually but haven't braved playing through that yet. I ended up having to play on custom games and selecting only 3 or 4 weapons in the colour I wanted with 16 others in other colours so I could make sure I got plenty of choice of the same weapon in shops and choice of affixes to make sure I dealt maximum damage. My biggest annoyance this update sort of fixes is the last boss is a pain, and it's an hour of game to reach him and be killed, it takes forever to git gud when you can at best only fight him once an hour or have to save scum your way through. At least now I can train against the sod. Ended up with the most scummy build I could find to take him out on both 3 and 4 BC though.

Only issue with the new easy mode is it locks out the next difficulty level, so eventually you have to learn to do it without the new modifiers of you want to progress. Could be useful for someone like me though who just wants to unlock the toys I'm missing from enemies only present in the hardest settings without getting massacred because I only have on ability space the entire run.

Re: Dead Cells' 'What's The Damage?' Update Is Now Live On Switch And Other Consoles

@sfb update 23 semi nerfed 2BC. It wasn't a major change just changes it to dropping health flasks every other transition instead of only twice. Annoying my first run through on that update I finally beat 2BC without using any of the extra flasks, now I'm stuck on 3BC.and just can't quiet get over the last boss.

I also highly recommend checking out veedotme and psyechie on YouTube that do custom mode runs, they are great players but you can see some good equipment load outs from their runs. If you are struggling there are some really broken builds in this game those guys cover, before the update in this article quick bow or multiple books bow with a hokutos bow and barbed tips was incredibly broken, I no hitted concierge and time keeper in seconds using it, they didn't even have time to attack back properly. I still keep considering restarting from the beginning and buying it on the switch, I'm playing it on gamepass at the moment but it's such a good fit for quick blasts portably the Xbox can't offer.

Re: Dead Cells' 'What's The Damage?' Update Is Now Live On Switch And Other Consoles

Everett_psycho

Those struggling wait till you get to two boss cells, I was stuck there for months. I'm now stuck on the boss cells and can't beat the last boss at all. Looking forward to update 25 to get the training room so o can practice just that fight without only getting one shot after an hour of playing. Once I first three I think I'm fine, no chance I'm getting good enough to clear 4 or 5.

A quick tip, use the custom game function, turn off some of the extra weapons you really don't be using so you can spawn more of the useful ones with better affixes to get some synergy between your load out. I've taken to choosing a colour and leaving some select weapons turned on with others from the other colours used to make up the 20 I need to still progress. When I get to the shop I can just pick my colour and only get offered a few choices and get so many more affixes to play with to build the synergy.
