I'm in the UK and got the notification both as new on the eshop and as a notification on the home screen. Must be a glitch in the system somehow. Hope you still get the free games.
@ tendoboy1984 "Scheme means a mischievous plot, like someone is out to get you."
In my dictionary - Scheme: noun. 1. Systematic arrangement. 2. artful plot. 3. Plan of action or work; outline, syllabus, etc. verb. plan, esp. secretly or deceitfully.
So, whilst it can be used to mean "mischievous plot", it also means "systematic arrangement" and more importantly "artful plot", which I translate as "great idea".
Why are people so hung up on the word "scheme"? Surely it's not very important. And anyway, they all need to remember that this is the "English" language and not the "American" language. If other nations that use the "English" language want to twist it then that's their problem. Buy a dictionary and learn the correct menaings of words.
It's not just the graphics and whether they are in 2 or 3 dimensions that make a game. I thnk most people have played naff looking games but thoroughly enjoyed them. That's not to say the all 2D games look naff, because some look absolutley brilliant. However, there are plenty of games that look stunning but are poor games, (Duke Nukem Forever). It's the gameplay that "usually" makes a game with the graphics just helping in the background. So 2D will always be around. It might just evolve slightly.
This game is brilliant fun. It looks fantastic, plays well and there's loads to unlock. It is currently my most played game. Anyone not interested in high score chasing may want to look elsewhere though.
@ Corbs "That is not the kind of company I want to support with my money if that was indeed their attitude towards this game, or any of their games for that matter. You don't see a developer like WayForward taking that approach, no matter how low they expect sales to be."
That's a fair comment. However, they are still in the business to make money. And spending time sorting out minor flaws is going to cost money. If they don't think that it will affect sales then why waste money when it could be better spent on the next project where they can, (hopefully), use their knowledge gained to make the next game better. Whether we like it or not, these companies are in it for the money. Just look at some of the bigger developers efforts. Call of Duty is churned out each year and Black Ops was pretty naff. They have probably read the comments made in reviews and message boards and it is to be hoped that MW3 has been developed with those comments in mind. Otherwise sales figures will slowly drop. All I am saying is that there has to be a point where it is not worth putting any more money / effort into a game because it isn't considered profitable. Finding that point is, I imagine, a very tricky thing to do.
I think that this game is great. Whilst it may not be on a par, (sorry), with Everybodys Golf or Pangya, it is still great fun. There is plenty to unlock, and enough courses to keep you going for a while. Admittedly, the putting could have done with a little tweaking but it is still manageable. The 3D is a nice addition and makes it look fancy but it isn't of any benefit to the actual gameplay. For a game that costs £5.40 I think it is excellent value for money. 7/10
You've got to wonder if game developers are still just testing the waters to see how well 3DS games sell, (both retail and download). Maybe they don't want to spend too much time and money sorting out minor flaws for potentially no benefit in the number of sales of their games.
I think that going on some of the messages left on message boards, (not this one so far I hasten to add), they should make "Successfully Learning English Grammar".
It can be a good thing. Extra levels, tracks, missions extend a games life.
It can also be a bad thing. Extra levels, tracks, missions that could easily have been put into the original shop retail game. And anyone that actually buys things like extra outfits for characters must be either stupid or far too rich.
How many different versions of the same game can they make before enough people get fed up of seeing them? Who buys them and why? I can understand people buying them who haven't played any of them, (or at least not for a long time), but why pay money just for a few extra characters? It's the same with sports games. They are, essentially, the same game with tiny extras.
I for one am happy with what they are doing and think it is probably a very sensible move. I've had my 3DS since March and the price drop doesn't bother me at all. Nintendo is a company and the idea is to make money. Compensating the relatively small number of 3DS owners with a few free games is, in my opinion, a great idea. It doesn't lose them much money and it keeps people happy. Good luck to them.

Rant over, I'm happy with the "scheme" and its details so far. I'm not particularly bothered by the lack of multiplayer or ability to suspend games.

Nothing interesting there.

@ Sh00kst3r,
"Also, am I the ONLY one that wants The Mercenaries 3D DLC?"
No you're not. I would download extra areas for this game. Not characters, outfits or weapons. However, it's not going to happen unfortunately.

Ha ha ha. That's hilarious. The game looks a bit crap but the video is funny.
Re: Let's Golf! 3D
Even without on-line, this game is great. Well worth £5.40.
