Probably the only Super NES game that came even close to as many play hours as I had on Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire.
Actraiser and Romance I played for hours on end. I can't even remember how many times I played through Actraiser to be honest....... One of my all time favorite games.
Yeah, pretty stupid. The app is now worthless. You'd think they could have just gotten rid of the photo part of the app. However I do agree with others that SwapNote to begin with wasn't the greatest app. Would be far nicer to have a more email like system. Oh and the Streetpass part of the app is and always has been completely worthless. Why would I use that when I could just walk up to the person and talk to them.
If only I had $430.00 laying around... I'd check in my sofa but probably be luck to find .43 cents there.... Would be very cool and fun to record 3DS gameplay though. Hopefully Nintendo will catch on with the next generation of handhelds.
LOL I love how at first EVERYONE was getting Y because it had the "cool" flagship Pokémon. Now that some of the X/Y specific mega evolves have came out everyone wants X because those look cool. I'm just waiting for early or mid next week when they show off some cool Y specific mega evolve and everyone swings back to wanting Y.
Gotta say though, I've never before seen a game that had more than one version/factions play up both variations to the point that people really can't make up their mind which one/side all the cool kids will be playing.
Yup, sounds like a lot of fun for those who live in NY. Now if I could just convince my local Game Flop that they need to have a midnight release of Pokémon X & Y too so I could join in on a midnight release party. I'm actually considering canceling my order at Game Stop and either getting the download version or getting it at the 24 hour Wal-Mart, which assured me that they will be releasing it at midnight. Just no party on either of those ways.... bummer.
Eh, I guess I'm one of those rare ones that almost never use 3D on any game. Doesn't bother me in the least really. In fact, I may actually play this one more in 3D than any other game simply because the 3D effect is limited to battles.
Oh, and for those saying it's a lame excuse, maybe so and maybe not. Monster Hunter 3U's frame rate certainly improves when you turn off the 3D in the in game settings. Could be a similar effect.
Monster Hunter is certainly a game you can get your money's worth out of. I bought MH3U on launch day and I'm still playing it. 350+ hours into it and I have still yet to get and do everything there is to do in that game. Can't wait for MH4....
Bought this shortly after it came out for the original GameBoy. It's one of the few games from my GameBoy collection that I never traded off and still have. My son plays it on occasion on his GameBoy Advance and loves it as much as I did. Great game and can give you tons of fun portable playtime. Might have to pick this one up again for my 3DS XL when it comes to NA

We're also planning on some larger events down the road. If your in the KC area you should check us out: http://mhkc.shivtr.com/members
Personally I think Nintendo is doing exactly what I predicted they were doing. Steping back, saying, "hey Sony and Microsoft go ahead and duke it out," letting the fur fly and once a winner is determined Nintendo will then step in and stomp on whatever is left of the victor.
Timing was indeed horible. Also, if the pranksters had been smarter they would have put a bit more work into the box and made it look better instead of like a cheap box with a ? on it. I mean, paint it bright yellow at least. If more work had gone into it to make it look better there may have been less chance of it being mistaken for possible terrorist act and instead been seen as humorous.
Personally I'll be waiting for the YouTube video. I mean, who does a prank like this in todays world without the intent of filming it for YouTube??? lol
Now if they'd only add in the ability to reply to replies. That's the only thing I ever found lacking in Swapnote. Hate the one post and done way it works now.
@Arcamenel The demo seriously gives you a tiny look at the real game and other than getting a glimpse of the battle style does little to show you what else the game has to offer.
It's a little like if they released a demo of Final Fantasy 7 that stuck you right into a boss battle and as soon as that battle was over so was the demo.
Watch this YouTube video instead. It's the first 20 minutes of the game and will give you a much better view of the game as a whole. http://youtu.be/oXqnH57KNy8
I actually heard the Wii U demo was worse than the 3DS one. I swear, whoever decided to kick out those demo's should seriously have their head examined. I think the demos did more to chase people off than it did attract them.
@Metal_Sonic The demo is really nothing like the real game other than the combat physics. Judging this game off that demo is like seeing only the Mona Lisa's nose and basing your opinion of the whole painting on just that view. Or listening to 15 seconds of the middle of any song and deciding if you like it or not.
Not saying this game is for everyone or for you. Just saying that demo was crap compaired to the full game.
Once again, we have idiots who only bother to look in their own back yard for world wide issues. My prediction is that Sony will be out of the console business long before Nintendo will. I make this prediction based on the fact that Nintendo is boss in the handheld department and king of consoles in Japan which will help them survive though the console wars. This leaves Microsoft and Sony to duke it out and I think that Sony often overreaches and produces systems that might include everything anyone could want but that are way out of most peoples price range in the current economic situation of the world.
I thought it funny that they put a launch price for the PS4 at <$599.00 at launch. Ok, so the price will be $598.00. Who's got $600.00+ after taxes to throw to a system? Sony is catering to the rich gamer, and there are only so many rich folks in the world. Also, how can you make sales predictions on systems that A. we don't have full details on, and B. haven't even been announced? Keep in mind that folks just like him are the exact same types of folks that said way back in the day that the original PS1 wouldn't survive because nobody wanted their games on disk....... Yeah, these kind of predictions are a waste of peoples time.
Personally I would like to see an AR game that allowed people to create their own AR enviroments to a degree. For instance.... I remember hearing about an AR game where you placed a map of a city on a tabletop and the AR made it come to life. You played the part of a chopper pilot trying to guide people to safety by gunning down zombies in the city. I think Skittles were used as special bombs and traps for the zombies as the color and shape of Skittles were easily recognizable by the program.
So how about we take something like that a step further and allow players to create their own maps or map sections on the computer then printing them out on their printer. Certain building, street, or other city items could use a certain print pattern or color to identify them as such to the program. Players could then share maps online only by uploading the graphic image of the map section and printing it out. This same sort of thing could be used to create dungeons if you were looking for more of a dungeon crawler RPG style play.
@banacheck Well it's getting a bit off topic now but how has Sony screwed it's customers. Let me count the ways.....
1. All of their MMORPG's are renown for kicking out a new "expansion" every 4 to 6 months which you have to pay $30.00 or more for to keep up with everything in the game in addition to your monthly game fees.
2. Star Wars Galaxies.... I think this one is self explanitory on how they royally screwed their very loyal customers.
3. EverQuest 2: Sold EQ2 in Europe to a less than trustworthy TV station (which had been hacked multiple times) looking to cash in on an MMORPG and then region locked the game in both countries after it had been open since the begining.
4. Had all Station accounts hacked into multiple times because of poor security methods. Most Station account holders had to get new credit and bank cards each time to avoid their card numbers being sold online by the hackers. Sony did little in the way of repairing damage, gametime, or money lost to said account holders.
5. Charging $82.00 U.S. for a screw. No joke.
6. As of late, systems have been overly priced and out of range of your average gamer. I'm wondering how many of your kids you'll have to sell and fingers you'll have to chop off to purchase the PS4....
I could go on but there's the tip of the iceberg.
Oh and one last thing. I'm no animal rights activist or anything like that but you seriously don't find it a bit odd that they KILLED a LIVE goat at the event, scooped out it's steaming warm insides and had real topless women hand out raw meat for people to eat??? I mean, having Mario at a Mario game event is one thing, parading a live Yoshi onstage, killing it then eating it raw would be something completely different. However, admittedly, seeing Princess Peach topless could be a hoot! lol
@chewytapeworm It's far from shovelware as I've played a couple of those in my life......cough Horizons cough However, it's probably not a game for everyone. It's a puzzle/sandbox/creative game. If you don't enjoy all of those aspects combined with rollercoasters then you should probably just move on to the next game that does interest you. However if you do enjoy those elements it's a great game and I see myself going back to it time and time again as opposed to some games that just sit there on my system.
@banacheck Yes Sony because time and time again they have proven that they are willing to put the screws to their customers to make more profit. I could care less about hardware, I care more about how I'm treated as a loyal customer. When I, as a loyal customer of many years, get shafted as though it didn't matter I tend not to keep giving that company money. It's that whole "fool me once" thing....
That and if you keep up with Sony events they do some really weird things, like that God of War event where they slaughtered a goat, ate it's intestins raw, and had topless girls running around serving it. Uhh, yeah, that's........weird.
Bottom line for me is this: If you don't treat your customers like valuable assets to your company then your company is worth nothing to me.
EA is number one on my "game companies that suck" list due to their horrible practice of screwing the customer out of a completed game so they can make more money on a hacked up one. Only way I buy an EA game is if it's been out a while, has gotten incredible reviews, and I haven't seen or heard of too much about small content upgrades for $30.00+.
Sony is number 2 on my list........ If I got my way both of those companies would go belly up so we could get games produced by better companies that rememered how to treat their customers right.
Maybe he wants to go to a company where you can double or triple your money on a game by gutting half the finished game so you can later sell it as add-ons........
Spot on review!! The interface is indeed somewhat confusing and the presentation is a little bland but otherwise it's a ton of fun to play. Dispite being way too addicted to Etrian Odyssey, Coaster Creator 3D has managed to pull me away from it multiple times and I've not regreted one bit the time I've spent playing it or the money I spent to buy it.
If you like rollercoaster game/ building rollercoasters then I highly recomend this game. Personally I can't wait to see people's creations. I'm sure some of us out there will start trying to build some real coasters in the game.
You know, wayyyy back when I first heard of a fishing game, (which may well have been this series,) I thought, "How crazy is that? Who would buy a game where you just fish?? I mean, it's got to be the lamest game ever!!"
That however was said before I tried playing a fishing game. Now I find myself enjoying a good fishing game and have to have at least one on every system I own. I've still been looking for one on the 3DS. Maybe it will be this one....
Yeah, I agree. Come on Capcom, just make the 3DS version able to connect to online all on it's own. Maybe bring out an update for the 3DS also.... Or how about making this free app available for the Wii console too. I mean, if I'm not buying the Wii U version it's possibly because I don't own a Wii U which makes this whole thing kinda worthless.
I was under the impression that game producers/developers giving a rats rump about their customers was extinct but apparently it's just an endangered species. First it was Coaster Creator 3D's creator answering questions about the game right here on Nintendo Life instead of ignoring everone, even on the official forums. Then it was Capcom's news to include some left out features of Monster Hunter 3U and now this!! Maybe if we if we nurture this attitude we can bring it back from the dead....... In my opinion it's what's truly missing in games these days.
@DaveC Not lazy but an artistic choice. In my opinion they wanted to keep the classic feel of a dungeon crawler and just highlight the menus. Just because the system has the ability to do 3D doesn't mean it has to. Heck most games I play I play in 2D because they are dizzying to play in 3D. This was the first game I've found that I could play in 3D and enjoy it for extended periods of time.
Very good of Capcom to do this and not withhold the info that they will until after the games have already sold. Gives me some faith that Capcom is for the gamers and not for the money like many companies. Now if we could only convince them to add online multiplayer to the 3DS................ Please.
It's funny, anyone outside of Japan could view this I suppose. But in Japan Nintendo is king and the other two systems take a back seat. Why?? Because in Japan they don't "get" first person shooters and that is what Xbox and Playstation arre both heavy with. Many in Japan think FPS games are pointless and dumb.
The second reason Nintendo will stay in business is because since the Wii Nintendo has been focused on being everyone's "secondary' system and it's worked. While nearly one in the states had either an Xbox or a Playstation almost every household that had one of those two systems also had a Wii and/or a DS.
People who think Nintendo is going away tend to be North Americans who only look at what's directly in front of them and not what's going on at the sidelines. In my opinion I think we'll see Sony drop out of the game long before we see Nintendo leave. Why do I think this?? Because right now Xbox is the system choice of most "elite" gamers. Also Sony has a nasty habbit of charging step prices for their systems and expecting gamers to buy them. All this makes Playstation the pickle in the middle of systems which is not a good spot to be in.
@Arkaein Very nice to hear and even nicer to see a developer, the lead one no less, actually taking note of people talking about their game and responding outside of their official forums. The fact that a lead dev takes time to do this gives me extra special interest in a game!! You just don't see that in many games.
Personally I do think it's Capcom trying to make money. There's no real reason they couldn't have made slight modifications let you use off TV play on the Wii U. Just as there's no real reason they couldn't have added online play for the 3DS. I love Monster Hunter and I will be getting the 3DS version but in my mind shame on Capcom for trying to get people to buy 2 versions of the same game just to have the functionality it should have had in one.
Seems nearly every game company has annoying things it does to it's customers in the name of greed.
I'm wondering if it will use realistic physics. In other words, is it possible to create a coaster that will fail due to the train not having enough speed and inertia to make it over the next hill. That for me will be the make or break on this title because to me tweeking a coaster so that works is most of the fun.
Pretty awesome!! I was going to get my 3DS XL this weekend so I'm good to go. Since I'm going to be getting a $25.00 gift card with my system purchase and I already have a $5.00 gift card from buying Fire Emblem combined with the already $2.00 in-store discount it will be like getting two games for $8.00.
I already know I want Super Mario 3D Land. Soooo, my only decision to make will be if I get Mystery Dungeon, which I've played older versions and enjoyed, or Luigi's Mansion, which would be totally new to me although I've heard nothing but good things about it. Decisions, decisions...........
Of course, if Nintendo were to do just what I said above it would most certainly cut into Nintendo's profits. How?? Well if my Club Nintendo ID showed that I had purchased the original Legend of Zelda game way back when it first came out then by industry standards they wouldn't be making any more money off of me when I downloaded it to other systems down the road.
This I suspect is the main reason that Nintendo keeps tying purchases to systems and not accounts. Nintendo loves to resell it's old games on new systems. It's set up so that every new system they kick out will have a whole backlog of old classics that they can trickle out and make money on. At the end of the day it's all about money and being able to resell the same game over and over again every so many years.
I still love Nintendo. But some of their business practices leave much to be desired.
To be honest, there is absolutely no excuse or reason why Nintendo can't just use your Club Nintendo ID as proof of ownership. The infostructure is already there it's just not being used.
At any given time I should be able to download any game that my Club Nintendo account shows I've purchased, on any system that is also linked to that same Club Nintendo account and is capable of running the game. This should also include retail purchases of games that are also now available in digital format.
If you think that's a bit radical and overboard it's not. It's a current industry standard. For instance, I can do exactly what I've said above for ANY game on my Steam account, including ones that I originally bought at retail such as Portal, XCOM, Half Life and such.
Well it's not a huge deal breaker to me. I was only going to get it on the 3DS now anyhow. I was a bit bummed by the 3DS not having online multiplayer, which they totally should have put in, but my son is also getting the 3DS verson so I've got a game partner right there. Maybe I'll see if anyone is up for some 3DS Monster Hunter gatherings in Kansas City.
@Scarhino89 It's been a loooooong while since I've played that version and I've slept at least a time or two since then but it sounds familiar. I suppose I could plug the game in and try it to see. [plugs Pokemon Red into his tribal GameBoy Advance] What the???? Drat. I forgot that I let my daughter borrow the game and reset it so she could play it from the start. She made it to the first city and quit so I don't have anything with surf on it yet.
Humm, now that I'm thinking about it... Is it possible to create a Pokemon on the original and then chain transfer it up though the game line to the most recent Pokemon??
I'm old enough to have bought it when it first come out. Still have Super Mario Land, Revenge of the Gator, original Poke'mon Red, Tetris, Wordtris, and original Tetris Blast, which my 17 year old son still plays to this very day on a GameBoy Advance.
Yes, Lunar Lander was the name of the game I was thinking of. I also agree with Rayword, EnjoyUp has created some interesting and different games in the past. Granted, they haven't been the deepest games in the world but what they create is generally enjoyable to play. I mean, Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ is nearly a cult classic and came out way before that upstart Lollipop Chainsaw.
Sounds like a lot of fun for such a cheap price. I seem to remember a similar old school game with a space ship that you had to guide to a landing pad..........Can't remember the name of that game though. I'll have to keep an eye on this one.
Holding out for a Monster Hunter or Rune Factory title on the 3ds. I'll hold my breath till I turn blue!!! lol Code of Princess and Harvest Moon sound like fun too though.
Can't argue that one MadAussie. Sounds like a ton of fun, especially if each playable character actually plays differently so the playstyle actually feels a bit different depending on which character you play. Please no 20 different colored Yoshi's as secret unlockable characters..........

However, it's probably not a game for everyone.
Re: Lead Designer On Watch_Dogs Has Parted Company With Ubisoft
@banacheck
Yes Sony because time and time again they have proven that they are willing to put the screws to their customers to make more profit.
Re: Lead Designer On Watch_Dogs Has Parted Company With Ubisoft
EA is number one on my "game companies that suck" list due to their horrible practice of screwing the customer out of a completed game so they can make more money on a hacked up one. Only way I buy an EA game is if it's been out a while, has gotten incredible reviews, and I haven't seen or heard of too much about small content upgrades for $30.00+.
Sony is number 2 on my list........ If I got my way both of those companies would go belly up so we could get games produced by better companies that rememered how to treat their customers right.
Re: Lead Designer On Watch_Dogs Has Parted Company With Ubisoft
Maybe he wants to go to a company where you can double or triple your money on a game by gutting half the finished game so you can later sell it as add-ons........
Re: Review: Coaster Creator 3D (3DS eShop)
Spot on review!! The interface is indeed somewhat confusing and the presentation is a little bland but otherwise it's a ton of fun to play. Dispite being way too addicted to Etrian Odyssey, Coaster Creator 3D has managed to pull me away from it multiple times and I've not regreted one bit the time I've spent playing it or the money I spent to buy it.
If you like rollercoaster game/ building rollercoasters then I highly recomend this game. Personally I can't wait to see people's creations. I'm sure some of us out there will start trying to build some real coasters in the game.
Re: Super Black Bass 3D
You know, wayyyy back when I first heard of a fishing game, (which may well have been this series,) I thought, "How crazy is that? Who would buy a game where you just fish?? I mean, it's got to be the lamest game ever!!"
That however was said before I tried playing a fishing game. Now I find myself enjoying a good fishing game and have to have at least one on every system I own. I've still been looking for one on the 3DS. Maybe it will be this one....
Re: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate's 3DS Online Multiplayer Workaround Is Coming to Europe
Re: Vblank Entertainment: Retro City Rampage on WiiWare is a "$20,000 Gift to the Fans"
Re: Review: Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan (3DS)
@DaveC Not lazy but an artistic choice. In my opinion they wanted to keep the classic feel of a dungeon crawler and just highlight the menus. Just because the system has the ability to do 3D doesn't mean it has to. Heck most games I play I play in 2D because they are dizzying to play in 3D. This was the first game I've found that I could play in 3D and enjoy it for extended periods of time.
Re: Update to Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate To Bring Off-TV Play and Cross-Region Online Multiplayer
Very good of Capcom to do this and not withhold the info that they will until after the games have already sold. Gives me some faith that Capcom is for the gamers and not for the money like many companies. Now if we could only convince them to add online multiplayer to the 3DS................ Please.
Re: Cliff Bleszinski Sees A Future Where Nintendo Is Out Of The Hardware Business
Re: Coaster Creator 3D Ride Starts on 28th February in North America
@Arkaein Very nice to hear and even nicer to see a developer, the lead one no less, actually taking note of people talking about their game and responding outside of their official forums. The fact that a lead dev takes time to do this gives me extra special interest in a game!! You just don't see that in many games.
Re: No Off-Screen Play For Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate On Wii U
Personally I do think it's Capcom trying to make money. There's no real reason they couldn't have made slight modifications let you use off TV play on the Wii U. Just as there's no real reason they couldn't have added online play for the 3DS. I love Monster Hunter and I will be getting the 3DS version but in my mind shame on Capcom for trying to get people to buy 2 versions of the same game just to have the functionality it should have had in one.
Seems nearly every game company has annoying things it does to it's customers in the name of greed.
Re: Coaster Creator 3D Ride Starts on 28th February in North America
I'm wondering if it will use realistic physics. In other words, is it possible to create a coaster that will fail due to the train not having enough speed and inertia to make it over the next hill. That for me will be the make or break on this title because to me tweeking a coaster so that works is most of the fun.
Re: Nintendo of America Offering Free Retail Game To New 3DS XL Buyers
Re: Talking Point: This Fan's Tragic Tale Highlights The Problem With Nintendo's Approach To Download Purchases
Re: Talking Point: This Fan's Tragic Tale Highlights The Problem With Nintendo's Approach To Download Purchases
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Nine
Fire Emblem Awakening and Etrian Odyssey 4. So hard to decide which one of the two I want to play from moment to moment.
Re: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Online Play Will Be Region Locked For Wii U
Well it's not a huge deal breaker to me. I was only going to get it on the 3DS now anyhow. I was a bit bummed by the 3DS not having online multiplayer, which they totally should have put in, but my son is also getting the 3DS verson so I've got a game partner right there. Maybe I'll see if anyone is up for some 3DS Monster Hunter gatherings in Kansas City.
Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo Game Boy
Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo Game Boy
I'm old enough to have bought it when it first come out. Still have Super Mario Land, Revenge of the Gator, original Poke'mon Red, Tetris, Wordtris, and original Tetris Blast, which my 17 year old son still plays to this very day on a GameBoy Advance.
Re: Abyss Alights To The Surface On 23rd August
Yes, Lunar Lander was the name of the game I was thinking of. I also agree with Rayword, EnjoyUp has created some interesting and different games in the past. Granted, they haven't been the deepest games in the world but what they create is generally enjoyable to play. I mean, Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ is nearly a cult classic and came out way before that upstart Lollipop Chainsaw.
Re: Abyss Alights To The Surface On 23rd August
Sounds like a lot of fun for such a cheap price. I seem to remember a similar old school game with a space ship that you had to guide to a landing pad..........Can't remember the name of that game though. I'll have to keep an eye on this one.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Its Holiday Hits in North America
Holding out for a Monster Hunter or Rune Factory title on the 3ds. I'll hold my breath till I turn blue!!! lol Code of Princess and Harvest Moon sound like fun too though.
Re: Feature: Crazy Nintendo Crossovers We'd Like to See
Can't argue that one MadAussie. Sounds like a ton of fun, especially if each playable character actually plays differently so the playstyle actually feels a bit different depending on which character you play. Please no 20 different colored Yoshi's as secret unlockable characters..........
Re: Feature: Crazy Nintendo Crossovers We'd Like to See
Harvest Moon / Monster Hunter......... Oh wait, that would also be called an amped up version of Rune Factory......... Oh, and make it an online game.
