I hope they've got some wildcards up their sleeve. It's not a BAD lineup, just not a very strong one either.
As a customer I'm not really interested in any of the above, but as just a spectator I'm interested in there being so many potential tech flexes - your BL4s, your Elden Rings, your Resi9s, etc. The more opportunities to loudly shout "this is an actually-capable console" the better, at least in a weaker 2nd year like this release-wise
Not me buying the MP4 Samus amiibo before even knowing that it would unlock the radio then scanning it right though the box and returning it unopened to get $30 back
"The Max also includes the option to swap between four- and eight-directional inputs on the D-pad"
Just to clarify to anyone like me who's interested in this (and is easily confused,) that doesn't mean the cheaper Pro model is limited to 4 direction, more like the opposite: the controller's webpage specifies the Max model has the option to purposefully disable diagonal inputs on the D-pad if you like
I skipped the OG Switch entirely, so when June 6 came, I had some catching up to do. And with the perks of an in-home care job, I hit 767h of play just since then. My top 4 (+ a short review of each) are:
Smash Ultimate — (365h)
It's no Brawl, but Spirits/WoL is genius in my book. That hours # is nowhere near accurate, only that I've spent entire days taking spirits in and out of train/explore: At some point I set the impossible, masochistic goal of grinding every Primary I own to 99... Including dupes
Balatro — (136h)
My first time with Balatro on any platform. But could you blame me for that playtime even if it wasn't?
Ace Attorney Trilogy — (82h)
I feel stupid for missing out on these as a DS kid, but better late than never (I got the true experience thanks to the touch support, too.) They're really perfect casual fare and not at all what I expected in terms of tone (Phoenix invented "that's cringe" back in 2002!)
Tied: — Metroid Dread — & — Prime 4 — (33h) I got Dread on Woot the Christmas before the Switch 2 was even announced in anticipation. First game I fired up... And it's kinda disappointed me. No mainline Metroid in the 2020s should be shorter, easier, or have fewer sequence breaks than Super, but here we are. IDK what people see in it.
Beyond is just the opposite for me. Admittedly, it falls off hard post-Electroshot, but I'm convinced it was worth waiting 17 years. Powerlessly watching haters hijack the narrative has been heartbreaking, because the negativity has surely doomed the franchise, maybe even damaged the Switch 2
