This article is full of complete rubbish.
It is not a grind in the slightest. I have played through 3 times now, on the third avoided many battles, and it is still INCREDIBLY easy to reach a high enough level to feel no need to push fuether. The game is designed so that you will pretty much reach "max level" by the end, as long as you attempt most of the fights presented to you. You can even avoid the Monster Mania quests entirely and still hit 50. 100 is not needed at all, and you would be silly to even bother.
Please don't let articles like this put you off the idea of ever reaching "max level", just play and enjoy and you will hit 50 easily, which is more than enough to feel maxed out.
