I think Sega sees other companies having better success with releasing collections on the Switch (Street Fighter, Mega Man, Contra, etc) I could definitely see them going in this direction Maybe a Arcade collection similar to the upcoming Astro City mini. Or maybe they want to release games by series, maybe a Goldenaxe collection or Virtua Fighter collection, I don't know. But, I bet Sega has made more money off their Sega Mega Drive collection, then all the Sega Ages games combined.
Plus Sega always made it clear that Sega Ages is M2's to develop, and M2 is notorious for taking their time, and unfortunately, as great as their work is, it's hard to justify spending so much time on a game that's going to sell for $8. Basically, ending the Sega Ages branding gives Sega more freedom to release their old games in different ways, and different price ranges. It also allows them to use different developers, which could speed up the releases (although nobody does ports as well as M2)
Bought this game a few weeks ago, randomly, and it was one of the funnest games I've played in a long time. Certainly not the typical shoot'em up, and not as difficult as the genre can be, but a real awesome surprise. Can't wait for the new arcade mode!
