Re: Opinion: I'm Happy amiibo Survived The Console Jump, But These Unlocks Are Getting Silly

I see some talk about how this has always been a bit of a problem with Amiibo and trying to find a good reward balance, but to me, it was an annoyance when you faced the prospect of content being locked behind a $13 Amiibo.

Problem is, now we're seeing more expensive Amiibo with the same issues. Skyward Sword HD locked a nice QOL featured behind a $25 figure (not essential, but very useful). Bowser's Fury has a similar functionality, but at least it's not tied to a single Amiibo. And now, things are just getting so damn expensive. For reference, Mega Yarn Yoshi, the former expensive Amiibo, is as expensive as the Street Fighter and Metroid Prime Amiibo, and less expensive than Kirby Air Riders', and I don't think that it's great.

I simply don't think Nintendo has done the legwork to justify why we should pay more for Amiibo, and I think that they're losing sight of why people thought Amiibo were cool. You know what I thought was cool? "Whoa, I can get a Ness figure for only $13???" When I see a $50 Air Riders Amiibo, I think about the fact that Kirby has tons of figures of similar or lower price, and a lot of them are SO much better. Assuming you got them at launch, the Kirby Nendoroid figures are incredible, and roughly the same price.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Worst Game That You Still Love For Some Reason?

@Zilock The issue isn't to do with her race, but the presentation of a person fighting to liberate enslaved black people turning into a genuinely evil person when she gets power. The idea of black liberation leading to a reversal of racism is a common idea by white supremacists and nationalists, and historically nonsense, as it does not reflect what happens following the successful liberation of an ethnic group.

Re: Opinion: Steam Deck Fans Are Seriously Underestimating The Switch 2

Bryn

The price comparison doesn't work. I'm on record saying that I'd pay $800 for a Switch 2 if the games were $60. For my Steam Deck, it doesn't take long to get games for cheap. In the end, I think that a person buying a comparable number of games with comparable MSRPs on Steam Deck will spend less than someone doing so on Switch 2.

Re: Nintendo Will Remove Smash Bros. Ultimate's Offensive Depiction Of Native Americans

Bryn

@Octane Yo, ninjas aren't a group of people who suffered genocide. There also is not a pattern of depicting Ninjas poorly. Perhaps they are "fetishized" (for lack of a better word), but Native Americans are frequently maligned. Fire Attack is a retelling of a period of time where Native Americans were intentionally targeted with genocide, while the game depicts them as the antagonists.
